Menu needs to be changed & food offerings need to be sampled by owners/staff in order to improve. It had been a few years since we last visited Sunset Pointe (which btw, were very good past experiences) but were greatly disappointed in the menu offerings & food we received last Sunday evening. My son ordered the kamikaze chicken and barbecue grilled shrimp. Both were . I had the southern fried fish and chips. The small fish planks were very dry and the sweet potato chips were overcooked and have no flavor of sweet potatoes whatsoever. Also, the slaw had a cilantro flavoring that no one at our table who tasted it cared for. My son's food offering (kamikaze chicken and barbecue shrimp) had a high vinegar flavoring, especially the dipping sauce (aïoli). Our server was very nice, but appeared to be overstretched. Very doubtful that we will return to this establishment as it's not worth the drive. On the positive note....the seating outside was very accommodating and had an atmosphere that was welcoming to a family environment. read more

Service is awful. Got seated at a table and waited 20 minutes for water from another server who promised my server was in the way but 10 minutes later never showed up. The from the parking lot makes you think eat inside but it is actually cooler outside on the porch. Lots of fans and misters. We all throughly enjoyed our meals. I had the seafood lettuce wraps. There was plenty of seafood and plenty of fresh lettuce. It was either butter lettuce or something similar. I felt full but not stuffed. The service was great and I have no complaints. So I stopped here on a quick visit to Fairhope. The service is amazing. Sit at the bar and hope Travis is your bartender. He's something special! Ambiance is lovely and friendly, can't beat the waterfront scenery. I ordered the BBQ shrimp appetizer. It was tasty and tangy, but definitely should not be called BBQ shrimp. Having read the positive reviews, we believed our one hour drive from Orange Beach would be rewarded. Unfortunately, our dining experience belied our expectations. My wife and I shared the crab benedict (brunch menu). Not only were the eggs so overcooked that they had a hard boiled and not poached consistency, but the Hollandaise sauce could easily have been from a packet or a can (could not taste any citrus and it was overcooked and thick like yogurt - not a sauce at all). The crab cake was just fine, but a bit bland with little seasoning. It seems to me that someone in the kitchen needs a refresher course from culinary school. So very disappointing. I nicely brought the inadequate meal to our server's attention. She seemed to care little. You know, when a restaurant cannot manage to properly poach an egg (in this case two), why would you ever give it a second chance? And, believe me, there was nothing about the "ambience" to come close to making up for the poor food. read more

They had flaps on and heaters that day but you could still see the boats and water so great view that would be superb when it warms a bit My friend and I ordered the fish and Chips which came with 4-5 strips of fish, shoestring fries and Asian slaw. The sunset view was perfection. At sunset, everyone stopped to make a toast, which was so lovely. We had the Sunset burger (very good) and the tuna nachos (kinda bland). Sunset Pointe has gone down in quality since the many years it opened. Our last and final order was the Sunset Salad (which never disappoints) and the TUNA BLT which they finally took it off Ciabatta Bread on opted for the Texas Toast given how delicate tuna is and how tough Ciabatta is. BUT, the TUNA was gross, it was fishy and over cooked which I guess could be a good thing,. Our last two orders of Crabcake balls had lots of shells. read more

Hate to say folks, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to try this one. I love to encourage local eateries, but honestly, I found this resturant understaffed and unfriendly. The temperature indoors at 7:00 pm was around 85°. We sat at the bar to wait for a table, we were informed they were out of most of their signature appetizers and entrees. The venue is a nice marina. The bar staff were working at an incredible pace trying to keep up. We finally gave up due to the heat and ended up not dining here. I will say, as I saw some of the entrees come out to other diners, I was unimpressed. read more

There really is nothing like dinner on the patio at sunset. With a bottle of wine (Gnarly Head Pinot Grigio), a couple of plates of seafood, you just can't go wrong. Grilled squash and cous-cous were the vegetable and starch of the day. Both were great. Grilled shrimp was a tad oily, but great grill flavor. When they tell you to "Go for the throat," do it. The grilled gulf snapper collar (throat) is excellent. If you came here way back when it was The Fly Creek cafe (or something like that), you really need to come back. This is a solid place for bar food, sandwiches, drinks, and great sunsets. The grouper bites are terrific. The view is wonderful. They're open Monday night which is a big plus. I've had a few of the appetizers and they're all good. I like to bring friends from out of town for a fun evening. My wife and I visited the Fairhope area from our hometown of Pensacola recently and, as we like to do, we sought out a local, non-chain restaurant. After consulting Yelp, we decided to give Sunset pointe a try. My wife enjoys seafood but I do not, so the listing that said American and seafood cuisine both offered us both something to choose My wife got a shrimp salad and I ordered Pop's pasta with chicken, which sounded good on the menu. Our orders came and the portions were very generous. My wife seemed to really enjoy her salad, and I dug in hoping to do the same. But once I started eating, I noticed something fishy about the food. Not fishy weird, but fishy flavoring! Apparently the seasoned pasta with chicken had a sauce that was apparently fish based. Needless to say I was very disappointed by this. If you like seafood ( remember, I do not) this might have been delicious. It wasn't to me. I would advise the owners of this otherwise fine restaurant to remember that my wife and I are not unique. There are, no doubt, many couples who have differing tastes when it comes to seafood. Make some dishes for your customers like me. If you enjoy seafood, this place will most likely please you. YUMMMMY. No wait right at 5pm, service was quick and friendly. We ordered drinks, an appetizer, two dinners and a kids meal plus desserts. Price was very fair for fresh seafood. Grouper tasted like it was caught that day, great flavored breading and fried just right. The grilled slaw was different but very delicious. Husband had the grilled throats, so yummy and fresh. Salad was huge for a side and house dressing was yummy. We shared the crab balls.. amazing and large. Even our toddler loved that. Key lime custard was delicious.
