I have a bad habit of waiting too long to eat. I ended up at sunset pizza on Main Street. I ordered the ten inch margarita pizza. The crust is awesome. The interior is bare bones, except for the lovely murals. The margarita pizza is unusual - it's made with fresh tomatoes, preserved red peppers, and feta cheese. Nevertheless it's delicious. Small pizza shop outside downtown Pittsburgh! Honestly, we got in late and it was the only place open...(though we did try others that said they were open, but they were already closed when we tried. Even though it was late, staff were helpful and friendly. They helped direct us to try a popular pizza that's a little off the beaten path (chicken Alfredo)! The pizza was fantastic. My kids dance at Carnegie Performing Arts Center and the studio routinely orders from here during Saturday rehearsals. They are always easy to work with and accommodating to sometimes crazy orders (like one time we had 12 personal pizzas along with extra items). Of all the times we've ordered, there was only once where something wasn't correct when delivered and they remedied it as quickly as they could. The pizzas are primarily what we have experience ordering and they are tasty. Decent size, even for the personal and they don't skimp on the ingredients. I've also tried the greek salad, cheesy breadsticks, buffalo fries and some of the Turkish specialties. I love the cut up pita bread for the greek salad. It basically makes it like croutons, but fits well with the overall taste of it. Delivery is usually pretty quick and the driver has always been friendly and courteous. I liked this place. A nice mix of both Middle Eastern items and classic pizza shop items. I decided to try a bit from both of the menus. So, I ordered a create your own calzone with just the classic cheese and sauce as well as the homemade baklava. The calzone was just OK. Nothing too special. It had the cheese in chunks which made for a slightly strange texture. However, the flavor itself wasn't bad. It seems like they use a variety of different cheeses for their calzone. A tad on the soggy side as well but not bad. Would rather stick the the Middle Eastern menu more. The baklava, however, was very good. I enjoyed that it seemed homemade and fresh. It's made with pistachios and isn't overwhelmingly sweet but has just enough sweetness to make it delightful. All in all, a nice spot. Decent pizza and calzones, and really good baklava. We've ordered from Sunset a few times before and it was always good. This time it wasn't really even edible--I don't know what happened. We got a large pizza with meatballs and pepperoni (I was charged extra for the toppings fyi) and the pepperoni wasn't included. We also got a dozen wings, which were only about half sauced. They were extremely dry. We ordered both mozzarella sticks and fried zucchini, both of which were cold and neither came with ranch or marinara. I guess that has to be requested and paid for separately? I dunno. This was a really bad order, and I paid $70 including a 20% tip. I like sunset pizza alot , great price and nice people. They could be a little bit cleaner, especially the owner. I've watched them multiple time take cash money, not wash hands and then start stretching dough. Ive never been sick because of this but its jist uncouth and not responsible. If i had to add one more note i wish they would cook the pizza a bit longer, that could be an opinion bit in this case its just a fact that the pizza is a bit underdone. After calling a number of pizza places, including some of the big named pizza joints, and being told they could not deliver to me because of where I was. I finally called Sunset, without any hesitation they told me they would bring me the pizza no problem. They brought it right up to my truck and even said to call them if I needed anything else. They were happy to help. I even got a text a few hours later from them just checking on me and making sure I enjoyed the food. By far the best pizza I've had in years. My coworkers and I ordered our lunch from Sunset Pizza and Grille this week and I was very pleased. They had a wide variety of items to choose from and nice portion sizes. I know I'll be ordering again soon! I ordered a personal size (4 cut) Mediterranean pizza. The thought of artichoke hearts, olives, onion, tomato, garlic and feta on a pizza made my mouth water. Unlike most Pittsburghers, I'm not a huge fan of meat on my pizza but I LOVE veggies. This pizza had the right veggie to cheese ratio while maintaining a crispy exterior. It was hot and delicious! Some of my coworkers ordered a meatball sub which looked great! They commented that the meatballs were cut in half so they didn't pop out if you took a bite. Not a bad idea at all! I have so many great things to say about Sunset Pizza... I could not be happier with this place. The owner of this place makes me special zucchini dishes. I bring him my garden zucchinis and he prepares them in multiple ways... with yogurt, with garlic, over a bed of French fries... I mean this guy made the zucchini festival that I always imagined and I cannot thank him enough. I'm dating this girl that is into his Hawaiian Pizza... so, I'll be back for that. I've tried a couple other of the specialty pizzas and have been pleased with those too. I usually get the large pepperoni pizza and it costs just $15. You could always pay more... but honestly, it's pretty great. The Turkish specialties are wonderful, there is something on the menu called PIDE that is very good. I got the kabob platter a few times and it was terrific. They've got this exceptionally good baklava too. 4 pieces for 6 bucks. Not bad. honestly, I love taking it home and eating it for breakfast. I have not tried their wings because wings are so expensive everywhere you go. I don't know what to say about that except that the wing situation is just terrible everywhere. So this guy knows Turkish food. He made my zucchini festival dreams come true this year. Sometimes I forget you can still order delivery without using uber eats. I just got a lot of food and had it delivered for a fair price. The menu was extensive. I really liked how many options they had in the Turkish part of the menu. Tonight I got the beef kebab, spinach pide, hummas, and cacik. The food hit the spot. When it comes to pizza selections in Pittsburgh area there are many to choose from. My daughter recommended Sunset Pizza in the heart of Carnegie to try. I loved it! We ate inside and ordered a large pizza with 1/2 pepperoni 1/2 green peppers and a small buffalo chicken pizza. You could tell they use better ingredients and toppings in the making of their pizza from the dough, pepperoni, to the sauce. Sauce a little bit thin for my liking but still tasty. My daughter says buffalo chicken pizza better than other pizza places she tried. I agree! The owner very friendly and appreciative. My husband, my daughter, and I were in Carnegie for the Carnegie Crawl, and we were looking for a good place to eat dinner. We decided to eat at SUNSET PIZZA, because they had vegetable kabobs. WHAT WE GOT DID NOT EVEN VAGUELY RESEMBLE VEGETABLE KABOBS!!!! We got WHITE RICE WITH AN ENTIRE BAG OF FRENCH FRIES ON TOP, A FEW PIECES OF BROCCOLI, TWO VERY SMALL PIECES OF BREADED ZUCCHINI, ONE PIECE OF TOMATO, ONE PIECE OF GREEN PEPPER, AND A COUPLE PIECES OF BURNT ONION. The meal that I got was not vegetable kabobs, and it certainly wasn't worth $14! EGGPLANT AND ONION SALAD NOTED ON THE MENU WAS MISSING FROM THE MEAL! The manager, Manny, told us that the food would be ready in 25 minutes, but the meal was actually ready in 55 MINUTES!!! When we paid, our bill was higher than it should have been. The manager, Manny, said, "Oh, we printed the menus, before we raised our prices." Why is a restaurant using menus with old prices? Isn't that illegal? When I called, I was told that the vegetable kabobs do not come on skewers. That's probably because it is impossible to put fries on a skewer! I should have received a full refund, since the meal I got was not vegetable kabobs! I do not recommend Sunset Pizza, because of their deceptiveness both with their prices, and their meals. We ordered chicken kabob for take out. They give a generous amount of good quality tasty food for the price. I think they gave four chicken skewers served over flavored rice with grilled tomatoes and green pepper along with 4 pieces of naan. The chicken is juicy, full of flavor which is not exactly spicy but it is distinct. Rice is well cooked and not bland. I will go back to this place again and I am sure I will go for the kabob again along with trying a few other items on the menu! One more tip, I guess they make everything fresh and hence they took around 15-20 minutes to get our food. It is a good idea to order 20 minutes ahead if you are going for a take out. read more
