I read some good reviews about this place, so I stopped in for carry-out for lunch on a Monday. The folks working there were GREAT! Really friendly and they explained how they make much of their food. I was tempted by their chicken tenders, so I asked if they used frozen chicken tenders and they not only said "no" and explained how they made them, they just happened to be making a batch of fresh tenders and showed me the fresh chicken breasts they use to make them. I ordered their Nashville Hot tenders and they were AMAZING! The breading was very light and flavorful and the dry Nashville Hot seasoning was spicy... very tasty!! I also got their Deluxe Italian sub, half size and it was excellent! Very fresh ingredients and the sub came together great... Very Nice!! This place is carry-out only, but they do deliver and they do prepare food rather quickly. Highly recommend! I'll definitely return!! read more

Their food is fantastic! They have menu options you don't typically find, and everything is always so good. On top of that, the people working there are always so nice! The restaurant/take out industry is tough. It never bothers me if someone is short with me on the phone because I know being super busy can be frustrating, but I also notice when employees are pleasant despite their fast pace. I also find that they deliver faster than the amount of time they tell you. My recommendation is their wedding soup and homemade potato chips (which can be shared with many people). I called for catering pricing and spoke with "Dwayne". We discussed many food options on the menu. He asked for my demographic information and party details. I reiterated I was just calling around for quotes. He gave me a general total price. I thanked him, but stated the price was more than I wanted to spend. He told me to "call him back on Friday" if I decided to go through with the Order. I never called him back. They showed up at my event 2 weeks later?! We had switched the Grove in the interim, so they brought catered food to the original Grove. I have no idea what types of food he brought, or the quantity as we discussed a variety of dishes?! They sued me and took me to the Magistrate to "get their money back"? There was not a Caterer Order, a Credit Card Deposit or a Contract? No Follow-up calls. Nothing. Just my initial phonecall inquiry. He outright lied at the hearing. He told the Judge he said "if I didn't call him back, to proceed with the Order"?! He said I ordered "Special Pork" that takes 2 days to come in and prepare? I read all of the previous Google reviews and there was mention of "The person answering the Phone is combative, and tells the customer it's his fault", "Someone took my Order down wrong and blamed me for it", "Owners, Hold yourself accountable", "very disrespectful place", "The person answering the Phone had a listening problem", "They forgot my order and didn't seem to care" etc. etc. If you use them to cater your event, make sure there is a written contract in black and white. All this girl wanted was a chef salad. Do you know how hard it is to find a chef salad in the south hills?? That's what landed me at The Other Place. We pulled up and placed our order and waited in the car--no place to have a seat and wait here--so ordering ahead would have been better. (But we had been engaged in the married "what do you want to eat?" discussion in the ride home in the car, so our planning was not awesome.) The wait was short (shorter than estimated) and the guys inside were friendly. Husband's hoagie was good, but skimpier than my very meaty/cheesy chef salad. Salad was A+, loaded with "stuff" and the dressing was fresh and nice and cold. (Seemed like a T. Marzetti type bleu cheese.) Salad was huge and definitely big enough for two meals, and it was a mix of fresh, crispy greens (not just iceberg), with no surprise rotten pieces under the unhealthier parts of the salad. This place is great!! The other place has no sit down dining but rather carry out or delivery. We had ordered pizza from them for our church's VBS. Not only was the delivery on time but they came in foldable insulated bags with oven style racks inside to keep the pizza nice and hot. You definitely don't want to serve cold pizza to a bunch of kids. They had given us so much that there was enough left over for the volunteers. The pizza was the traditional cheese but came in a box of 12 slices. I had one and boy oh boy this was the best pizza I had in a long time!! It was still piping hot from being in the insulated bags. Since we had extra I brought some home to my husband and he truly enjoyed it. This place is great for not only large groups but for catering to individual needs. Complete with appetizers, calzones, hoagies, lasagna, salad, desserts and more there is something for everyone on your list. I plan to utilize their services again in the near future. The Other place is located on Swallow Hill Road across the intersection leading to the Original Pancake house. Do yourself a favor and try it sometime! read more

Wonderful food! I wanted to try a new local business in the area and I came across this restaurant. I heard good things about it and decided to finally give it a try. Needless to say, it was worth the hype! My boyfriend and I ordered an Italian hoagie, a chicken bacon ranch Hoagie, and poutine to split. We VASTLY under estimated the size of the hoagies! They're HUGE! They're so big that we ate them for 3 separate meals. They use homemade bread for their subs and the ingredients are quality! They have a large selection of other Italian themed menu items and also offer catering services. The Other Place DOES NOT offer indoor dining. There are no table or chairs for sit down dining. The parking lot is somewhat small, but since the restaurant is takeout only, it's a non issue. The gentlemen working the restaurant we're very busy when I walked in, but greeted me with a smile and were very friendly! I will 100% be ordering from the restaurant again! A simple procedure of taking a persons address and phone number was too difficult for them and thus I had to sit and wait a hour and half for a pizza that was never coming ... 3 times I gave the girl on the phone my number. There's potential here but they need to improve their customer service. They need to revisit their pricing. Their pizza (even though over priced) and breadsticks were good. Hit or miss on the zucchini planks- sometimes has too much breading. The seasoning is great on the planks though- definitely homemade. Really enjoy the pizza and wings. Has become one of our places to get our pizza and wings and salads and hoagies and more. First, the lady at the register is a doll. So sweet and friendly. If you are calling in during prime time on Friday or Saturday don't be surprised to get a busy signal, but keep on trying after a short time. We always get thru and the wait time is usually not to bad. It is take out or delivery and we usually do take out. Only a few parking spaces but not a problem. The wings are very good, better than most. The pizza is a medium crust with a good tasting sauce with a little zing and a nice amount of cheese. Sometimes we have a few leftovers and the pizza heats up in the air fryer or oven is just as good. We have used TOP for small parties or to drop off some food to friends and the pasta and lasagna is very good and the garlic knots are to die for. If you are in the neighborhood, give them a call and have a good meal. read more

Resembling a fortress of red brick, The Other Place sits on a knob overlooking the suburban bustle of Greentree Road. Takeout and delivery are your only options as the interiors barely contain a counter, some stools, and a cash register, let alone a kitchen full of diligent, skilled cooks. As Kay and I awaited an order to eat at home after a session with our chiropractor, I was in awe of these culinary craftsmen, watching them chop, fry, shuffle pizzas in and out of a foreboding, massive oven as if they were pucks, and quickly assemble salads, the flames and angry, spitting grease barely affecting their concentration. These were short order masters at work, and they made their tasks look to be instinctual. What we drove back to Beechview with were a colossus of bread called The Stallion and a flat box full of zucchini strips. Named after characters from the "Rocky" series of films, The Other Place's "Knock 'Em Out Hoagies" are all served on entire (!) loaves of Mancini's bread. When I saw them on the menu, I immediately felt challenged by the one made with Genoa salami, baked ham, pepperoni, provolone, hot peppers, black olives, lettuce, tomato, onion, and Italian dressing. "Yo," it said to me with a New York accent bristling with belligerence. "I bet you can't take me." "I beat bigger sandwiches than you," I snapped back. "Heh. I ain't no Battleship," it said with a casual disdain. "You sure ain't," I replied eyeballing it up and down, setting off a chorus of "ooohhhs." From there, my living room turned into an arena, and soon the Stallion and I circling each other in a tomato-stained boxing ring. Round 1 saw me dominate the crowd favorite, crunching through the chewy, tough bread, and into the layers of spice, heat, oil, and tang, savory and sweet colliding like dueling rams. Densely packed with delicatessen meats, the grinder began to wear on my jaw muscles. I felt sore, swollen, like I'd taken too many jabs. "He's runnin' outta gas," I heard a grizzled, old voice say after Round 3. I would regain my composure after seeing Kay with tears in her eyes upon the conclusion of Round 8 as I contemplated telling the referee "No mas." Someone sounding like Jim Lampley would exclaim "This is a war!!!" in Round 10 when I and The Stallion had to be separated after the bell sounded. My bodyshots were clearly beginning to pay dividends, frustrating the wily veteran. With 45 seconds left in the 12th and final round, I would connect with a beautiful haymaker worthy of a highlight reel, giving the referee ample time to count to 10, ensuring that a timekeeper would not save The Stallion from defeat. A Michael Buffer figure would appear and announce my win as Kay kissed my cheek. I disregarded a shady Don King-like person who claimed he'd "take me to the top" as well as a typically long-winded Larry Merchant analogue who still refused to take me as a serious contender. We would celebrate victory with crispy, wafer-thin boards of consummately fried zucchini. Topped with slightly sharp parmesan crumbles, they were dunked in a tart marinara for maximum enjoyment. "I've fought better. But not many." I told the defeated hero as we exchanged handshakes. "Hey, you know, that's how it is, you know, in this game," my weary adversary said. "Yo, meet my wife. Adrian, get ovah here." Ya wanna eat a REAL zep? Blow off that dorky Fogle kid and head over to that place on the hill. Y'know, The Other Place? And now a word from *ahem* The Stallion itself. I had an experience yesterday. I was charged $10 extra purposely by one of the guys working there . When questioned he pointed to the notice and walked away. My extra charge for using credit card would have been only 92 cents and he charged me $ 9. They basically took $ 9 as their tip without me authorizing it. When questioned another fellow basically told me to shut up and get the credit. I got my credit, however, they treated me like I am a 'dog". Food was good. I will never order anything from The Other place anymore. Hope they will never treat anyone anymore like this. read more

We live so close to The Other Place, I feel guilty that we only order once or twice per month. Their pizza (and calzone) crust is top-notch and stands up pretty well to the heavy doses of toppings they load onto (or into) them. Their sandwiches, hoagies and pastas are also excellent, and they offer a wide variety of sides, soups and appetizers that allow us to branch out and try something new when we're in the mood. Our seven-year-old would live on a steady diet of TOP's giant meatballs and/or chicken fingers if we allowed it. In case you're starting to think this review is too one-sided ... With so many superior options on the menu, I don't really recommend the French fries. If you're ordering fries from The Other Place, you're probably missing out on something better (seriously, just read the menu). Also, the salads are always crisp and veggies fresh, but the house (Greek, maybe?) dressing is a little too oily for my taste. Luckily, we stock a variety of fine dressings at home anyway, so it's no big deal. If you live in the delivery area, do not hesitate to look them up and enjoy their excellent fare! Have ordered outstanding pizza, chicken parm and muffuletta but never the fish sandwich. It was outstanding!! Perfectly breaded and seasoned and can be ordered broiled or fried. We had the fried and it couldn't have been better or BIGGER. This will become our "go to" for fish sandwich in the neighborhood. read more
