Mediocre food and worse service. We were there a good 10 minutes before being waited on. I would say it was another 45 minutes for the food to come out and it was just a sandwich and fries. Other people at our table waited longer. Whoever reviewed the poutine fries as the best they ever had, clearly never had them elsewhere. The gravy was awful, there was melted cheese, not curds, and the fries aren't homemade. They were actually the worst I've ever had. The sandwich was a good size but just ok, nothing special. It took forever to get drinks refilled. I asked 25 minutes before we left and never got another. Once we finished eating our waitress didn't come back to the table. We had to ask others for drinks and the check. We originally went to play bingo. It was fun but didn't start on time and went all the way to 10pm. read more

Stopped here on the way home from Pittsburgh and had a nice lunch. It is a counter that you order food at and they bring it out, plenty of seating, pool table dart boards and nice outdoor patio for good weather days. Nice staff and casual vibe. Cheese steak was more lettuce and bread than meat. Tasted ok. The Garcia chicken w hippo sauce was a little spicy, and very good. Came in for lunch. It was a little confusing, for a first timer, to figure out that you had to place your order at the back counter and then take a seat. I followed the "seat yourself" and sat for 10 mins, thinking someone was coming over to take my order. Regardless, I had the cranberry poppins salad with grilled chicken and it was phenomenal. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the tomatoes and carrots were fresh, and there was a good amount of feta cheese. The employees were all friendly and all of the tables looked clean. Food, service, and ambience. It's true you know. I walked in to grab a to go order and the vibe of that place was cozy. I don't know if it was the sign with trivia night posted, the plenty booths/bar seats, or the tv put in just right, above the bar. It was a large place, but it was comfortable. I walked right to the bar and the gentleman there greeted me and grabbed my food and handed over the necessities. It's simple, but so many places have a hard time grasping the simple things. The John Dutton burger was excellent with its bbq sauce, and onion rings; complimented by the blue cheese that became a tasty part of every bite. The salad, was colorfully arranged with light ranch that did not over power the whole dish. Outstanding work. I hope to stop by again in the future when I'm in town. read more

I was staying at the hotel next door for a business trip so decided to stop in for dinner. I sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and friendly. I started with the mozzarella sticks. They were crunchy and oozing with cheese. The marinara paired well. I then ordered the blackened salmon Caesar salad. It was a simple salad with not many ingredients but was delicious. We dined at the Alcove for the first time recently and it was a great experience. First of all, it is a sports bar so I'm rating it relative to other sports bars in Pittsburgh and not as a fine dining experience. It is spacious and fun. The food was creative and tasty .. a step higher than your typical bar food. There is an outdoor patio available but it was too cold and dreary for that to be open when we visited. We sat down and were quickly attended to by Jo Jo who gave us menus and took our drink orders. Everything came out without waiting. Kudos to Jo Jo as he was the bartender/server/manager ... you name it. He was friendly, efficient, helpful and made us feel very at ease here given we were new. We will return! read more

Sure I could use a food delivery app and pay crazy fees for whatever I desired that day, but helping a local business while enjoying a tasty morsel is more up my alley. When I saw the Alcove's menu, I thought I'd give it a try. Located in (or next to) the Holiday Inn in Green Tree, it's super convenient. Burgers, sandwiches, and salads are all affordably priced. So far I've tried their Buffalo Chicken Wrap (my go-to pick), the Beet and Fried Goat Cheese Salad, and the special John Dutton Burger (if you don't know about the show Yellowstone by now, I don't know if we can be friends). The burger had onion straws, candied jalapenos, BBQ sauce... It was a GOOD burger worthy of it's namesake. (Much like the show.... Seriously if you haven't watched it, get with the program!) I tend to order and pick up my lunch, but you can dine in. Also you can make your sandwich a combo for a couple bucks more - adding house chips or fries and a fountain beverage to your haul. My new lunch spot SHOULD be yours too if you're working in Green Tree. When everything is delicious and affordable (highest price on the menu is $13 for a whole hoagie), you can't go wrong. read more

Very large venue. A little too "open" for my tastes. I prefer more of a "dive bar" atmosphere but not a deal breaker. It was a seat yourself place....so I did....pretty much out in the open. I guess I'm just one of those people who get overlooked. A couple that came in well after I did....sat 10 feet from me....they got tended to first. At that point the waitress finally noticed me....after she had walked by me a few more times. The food was fair and the beer was cold. I guess in this day and age of shitty customer service wherever we go, this place was about par. I finally made it to their new location, still on parkway center, right next to the Holiday Inn Express. I ordered online through ToastTab and was quoted 20 minutes for my blackened chicken salad. When I arrived 25 minutes later, it was waiting for me! The salad was incredible! Somehow they take standard ingredients and just blow you away. The chicken was so juicy, with a grilled taste, rubbed in lots of blackened seasoning. The fries were delicious as always, and I love their ranch dressing. I wish I could go on the Alcove diet -- I would eat their entree salads & paninis every single day if I could afford it!! Don't pass this place up- although their hours are for the local working crowd, it is so worth it, even if you have to order via Doordash. read more

I am so happy Alcove is right up the street from where I work, and am only sad they weren't around when I worked directly across the street! We finally got to actually eat here rather than grabbing takeout, as the food was even better. The gravy and cheese fries were awesome, but I don't think they'd travel super well. I almost always end up with their roasted red pepper and chicken panini, just because it's that good and I don't get the chance to get here often enough to branch out much.
