Found this place on Yelp. Classic dinner food. We came here early Saturday Morning and it was packed. Due to the rain the patio where there are out door seats were closed off. This place isnt for large groups. More than 7 people you will have to wait for a while to accommodate many people. This food review is only for breakfast. I got the 3+3+3 which is 3 large pancakes, 3 eggs, and 3 bacon. The food was decent nothing special, but its classic dinner food. i heard the hash browns were delicious. read more

Great great service. Breakfast was a very traditional menu but everything was cooked correctly to order. We enjoyed various omelets and a bacon waffle. The ONLY thing I would say is maybe they should get a couple heaters for the patio in the colder weather as the view is amazing. With that being said, our food came out so fast and the coffee and hot chocolate kept us warm. read more

Nice place while visiting our child in Cornell. Good service the selection is good the Belgian waffles was not right, bagel cream cheese and jelly. The eggs Benedict was awsome, the vegi omelets was delightful. The place is clean, inviting, definately a plus for breakfast. read more

The food is like any other diner. There is nothing special about it. The low ratings is because of the service. It is very very slow. People who arrived after us and ordered same things go their food before us. We waited for 55 minutes after ordering an omelette and French toast to receive it. WE LOVE SUNSET GRILL The pancakes are DIVINE . It is the perfect spot for breakfast after 4 am K-pop fanlives. Enhypen and Tomorrow x Together would be delighted to eat here after working so hard performing on the world stage, but unfortunately they are not physically in Ithaca (although they are in our hearts), so they will live vicariously through us. The service is so speedy, and the pancakes so fluffy. I could not imagine a better place to be at 8 am, staring out over Cayuga Lake. It's a 100/10. read more

There were; however, numerous issues with the service we received (fries were either missing or the wrong kind and waters weren't refilled) The place overall is just really run-down looking and would benefit greatly from an update. I am an Ithaca College student and came here with my partner on a rainy Saturday morning. I wasn't expecting much but it was actually very yummy! The atmosphere was comfortable and just had that homie diner feel. So got the steak and eggs and it was great! The steak was a bit too well done but it was still tasty. This place is a great find. Seating inside or out on a covered patio overlooking the valley and water. From the time you walk in you are treated like a regular, or at least an old friend. Breakfast was delicious and they were quite accommodating and offered to do more than what was on the menu. So, overall, we had a great meal and for a reasonable price. I'm giving this three stars instead of two because I'm a local and I don't wanna slam a local business... but I do want to say that my friend and I came in to exceptionally slow service with only one person on duty - until she called for help from someone there - she was flying solo for the entire restaurant...and apologizing profusely ... because my friend and I are not strangers to having had to wait tables in the past nor helping people, we cleared about four or five tables, or more, and wiped them down. Our server - she was appreciative - but maybe it was embarrassing that customers were cleaning the restaurant I have no idea, but we only wanted to help. Didn't expect anything in return but maybe the restaurant could've picked up something small like our two coffees? 38 bucks before tip for an unkempt restaurant w slow service? Well picking up customers coffees for customers who are willing to Pitch-in would've been a nice touch and surely cost them nothing. read more

An extremely disappointing experience. We were there on a Saturday night. A party of six. It's Sunset Grill's prime rib special on Saturday night. Oddly, there were no other customers in the restaurant when we arrived. Service was unbelievably slow to take our orders and to get the food. We sat for a long time before I had to ask a woman, who had seated us, if someone could take our order. She said that some guy in the back was supposed to be our server. It took almost 40 minutes from time of order to when the food came out. One of the people in our party had to return her prime rib. She ordered it cooked rare, but the prime rib was cooked beyond well done...like shoe leather, she said. She returned it and finally got another piece of prime rib cooked rare. Another person ordered a hamburger and specifically said she wanted it to have red in the middle, it was overcooked. A third person in our party ordered grilled fish and it was overcooked as well. Also, some of the prices on the menu had increased without any correction on the menu. I have been there a few times before. It has been a good place to eat for years. But that night, the staff (including the cook) were inattentive and incompetent. I hope it was just an off-night for them...or is this a restaurant that has fallen prey to post-Covid staff problems? read more

This place is horrible. When we first walked in the door, we were rudely told to wait outside on a bench. We waited for 15 minutes although there were several open tables that just hadn't been cleared. There were grounds in the coffee, the home fries were burnt, and the pancakes were so tough, they were almost impossible to cut. The waitress spilled coffee on the table and didn't wipe it up. Then after we cleaned it up ourselves, she didn't pick up the dirty napkins and just left them on the table next to our food. Many of the tables were left with dirty dishes, attracting bees from everywhere. At one point, there were 5 or 6 bees flying over my kids, buzzing into their food and into their faces, and a waitress walked by and said flippantly, don't worry, they won't hurt you. My daughters and I went Saturday morning and because we had the grandkids with we went in to ask how long the wait was. The man at the front told us that we would just have to wait for the one table to leave and he could seat us. So we brought everyone in. We understood that we would be waiting probably another 15 minutes or so which was ok. We were also told that the girls basketball team was coming in. Again ok. The table that we were waiting for had cleared and was reset, but instead of seating us first they rearranged tables from all over the dining room for the basketball team. If they would have seated us when the table was set we could have had drinks and our order in before they were finished putting all the table's together. When they then had the basketball team sit and still hadn't seated us we decided to leave. The man also was barking at everyone waiting, because we were not the only ones, to move away from the dining room. He also told another group who said that they had a reservation that, "your reservation was moved back 20 minutes so you are a half hour early. So yea." Will not be back!! I used to love Sunset Grill. Simple, reasonable priced diner-style breakfast. Then one weekend I ordered a turkey club sandwich. Bit into it and it was full of the paper they use to separate the turkey. No big deal, I used to work in restaurants, and it happens. I ask for a replacement. I bite into this next sandwich and the turkey is mushy and smells rotten. Confirm it with my family and the waiter. To be fair, the waiter was apologetic and they did refund me for the sandwich. But in my opinion, they should have refunded the entire meal. I could have become very sick from eating that food. Anyways, I'll never eat there again. I'm not taking any chances with a restaurant that doesn't value its customer's health and safety. read more

Situated by Ithaca College, this place has an awesome view looking out over all of Ithaca. I would say it is more like a diner than a grill though. They make decent omelets, cinnamon buns, waffles, pancakes, etc. Nothing is great but nothing is bad either. They also have standard dinner fair such as salads, entrees and various fried foods. If it weren't for the view I would probably not come back, but its a cozy place to hang out with friends over a no frills weekend brunch. read more

The food is exactly as one would expect from a dinner but better - homemade corned beef hash, fluffy pancakes, and cinnamon french toast (order the sauce on the side so you can make it as sweet as you want). Add in the view, and this is an amazing place for breakfast. The menus and tablecloths are more than a little tattered, but I'd rather have yummy food and old menus than the other way around. Really delicious brunch food for a decent price! All the omelets were under $10. My friends and I got a corner seat next to the patio so we got a beautiful view of the lake and Cornell. Stumbled upon this place in the drive around Ithaca. Glad we did stumble. The food portions are a good size and the price was reasonable as well. I ordered the gyro and it was nicely done. The gyro is made with lamb and this was nice as so many other places make it with beef. These other places probably call it a "ji-row". I went with the side of fries and was pleasantly surprised that they were steak fries! The service was fine - friendly, but a bit slow. I did find the food tasty; however, a bit too salty. The server only checked on us once and near the end of our meal we had to ask for beverage refills. I went with the water and likely one other person did not drink their water so I took advantage of the unused water. The view is awesome and if you can get outside seating, go for it. I rated a 4 because of the slow service and mainly because the food was a bit too salty. Overall, I was not disappointed that I stumbled upon Sunset Grill. read more

Great service. We were treated when we walked in, seated on the deck that has a view of Lake Cayuga and got our coffee and omelette scary fast. We both had the bacon and mushroom omelette which comes wrapped in the bacon. If every omelette with bacon came that way, the breakfast world would be a better place. The coffee was a little weak, but typical for a diner. I can imagine this view as sunset wince we were on this side of the lake last night and it was lovely. They bring in a good crowd. Very nice place for breakfast that is charming but not kitschy. My daughter and I both had the omelette special. I've never had an omelette with watermelon radishes and greens, along with more usual ingredients like potatoes and cheddar cheese. It was delicious. The rustic white toast was also very good.
