La Brea Sandwich, Pacific Sandwich, Chai Latte - Two breakfast sandwiches in takeout containers and a coffee in a white cup are placed on a black table at a cafe.

Super friendly staff and cute ambiance in this tucked away cafe. There are many savory options, drinks, and baked goods to choose from. Their Apple fritter is decent with a crispy exterior, soft pillowy inside with cinnamony apples between the crevices of the dough, and a sugary glaze on the outside. Their chocolate chip cornflake cookie was on the crispier/harder side, whereas I prefer a thicker and chewier cookie. Their breakfast sandwiches are unique, but not my favorite as they can be quite heavy.

The Melrose - A breakfast sandwich featuring a bagel with sesame seeds, bacon, fried fish fillet, and caramelized onions, served in a takeout container.

A Fantastic cup of coffee. Friendly welcoming staff, and they're more than willing to engage with you, and talk about the music playing. Cute atmosphere. I had the Melrose, which is one of the best BEC sandwiches I have ever had. The caramelized onion with the garlic aioli is a perfect complement to the crispy cheddar egg and bacon. I travel for work, I have been to 90 Food Network places in 39 states. This one's a winner. My only qualm would be that I prefer real coffee cups if I am sitting down, but then this place does a lot of pickup/takeout, so disposable cups make sense. Just a preference.

The OG on and everything bagel - A breakfast sandwich with egg, melted cheese, and seasoned chicken on a bagel, served in a white takeout container on a wooden table.

Cute cafe with a few pastry options and a nice selection of breakfast sandwiches. Coffee was decent and staff were nice. Gets pretty crowded (went on a Sunday) so you may need to wait for a seat if staying.

CoFax Sandwich - A breakfast sandwich with a sesame bagel, egg, and meat is placed on a takeout container on a wooden table, with drinks and people in the background.

Hound and Mare is always a classic for me. I went to college in Ithaca, and every time I visit, coming here is a must. The food is always the highlight--my go-to is the OG, a classic BEC, but today I decided to mix it up and try the CoFax. It was delicious--think breakfast sandwich, but with an Asian twist. The ambiance is the perfect mix of casual and cozy, with a modern, minimalist vibe. It's a small space, but there's always a good energy without feeling too cramped. While it's ideal for a quick bite, if you're lucky enough to snag a seat, it's a great spot to enjoy your meal in a laid-back atmosphere. Service is straightforward--you order at an iPad, then wait for your name to be called, which is exactly what you'd expect from a quick breakfast spot. The only downside is the seating--there's rarely enough space to stay and eat, so I usually end up taking my meal to go. But it's a popular spot, so I understand!

The avocado toast was incredible. I highly recommend it. Was a longish line but worth the wait.

The OG with bacon - A breakfast sandwich featuring bacon, melted cheese, and scrambled egg on a sesame seed bun, served in a white takeout container.

Centered in downtown Ithaca, this busy coffee/bakery spot had scrumptious breakfast sandwiches and is a great pick me up for the morning. Wait times are generally 10-15 mins. Parking is hit or miss bur after a drive around you can find a spot within a block or two.

Great breakfast sandwich and good coffee! Nice spot to hangout. Go to coffee shop in Ithaca!

This spot was recommended to me but I never got around to going until recently, and I regret putting it off. Finally. An Ithaca spot that can do BAGELS and BAGEL SANDWICHES properly. Gawd bless. Their cappuccino is pretty nice, too. Ambiance is okay, I feel like you'd just pull up here for the food and not the establishment itself. Service is speedy and they'll call out your order.

Almond milk cappuccino - A white paper cup with a foam-topped drink is placed on a white table by a window, with a blurred street scene outside.
Veggie M.

Had a tasty almond milk cappuccino and sat in a lovely window seat enjoy it. Surfer music on the radio, friendly baristas, delicious looking bakery items (nothing vegan tho). They have seating outside in the sidewalk too. Would add that 5th star and make this a regular spot(!) if they served their coffee in real mugs and had vegan cream cheese for their bagels. Note: the espresso is forty weight which is amazing coffee. The almond milk is sweetened.

NY Maple latte and a Melrose bagel sandwich - A plastic cup with iced coffee or latte is held in front of a tray containing a sesame bagel sandwich with a bite taken out, on a dark table.
Madeline Y.

The Melrose bagel has to be one of the best bagels I've ever had. With the crunchiness of the bacon and cheese and the fluffiness of the inside of the bagel. But with NY Maple latte is the best combination. The service was helpful and efficient. The artwork along the walls is a great touch.

Avocado toast - A piece of toasted bread is topped with mashed avocado, pickled red onions, sliced red chili peppers, sesame seeds, and radish slices.
Eman S.

My avocado toast was beautiful to look at and equally as tasty. I ordered an egg to go with it and it looked like two eggs for $2 or less. Incredible. Seating is limited but great, service is excellent. Coffee is on par for Ithaca, so nice but not what I'm used to. I tried the maple latte. My friend did too but his milk foam was at cappuccino level and not at all microfoam while mine was a little finer. My latte art was more of a lima bean rather than a heart but still, cute try.

Cute vibes. Efficient service. Reasonable prices. Specialty lattes were delicious, not too sweet. Nice breakfast options.

Two of us got the breakfast burrito, and it was excellent. The chai latte was also excellent. This place is a good time, and very modern.

We went on a Monday, so it was completely empty, which only made it feel more like a secret hideaway for people who appreciate a little offbeat charm. Definitely the kind of place you stumble into and think, "Yeah, this is where the interesting people hang out." Would I come back? Absolutely -- preferably on a night where there's more life, and maybe I'll finally try the kava :)

It has calming properties that help people be more social similar to alcohol but without the negative effects. It does taste pretty bitter and it has a numbing sensation (similar to sichuan peppercorns) so their flavored options are recommended for first-timers. The apple cider version was pretty good. I did feel the effect, but did I love it? Honestly, not sure. It felt a bit weird. But even if I decide not to try kava again, their tea was also really good and the owner is a super nice and interesting guy. People who come here are looking for something different, so give it a shot! The inside definitely looks like it used to be an elk's lounge or something. But overall, it's a chill and relaxed space with good vibes.

For mains I tried the vodka gnocchi and the cod stew. Both were excellent! I think if I were to return I would get the cod stew though- it is much more unique. We tried the pumpkin cake and the poppyseed coconut almond cake. I truly don't think I could pick a favorite. I wish the whipped cream was also homemade though. I came for dinner on a weekend night (with reservations). Service was solid. Overall, I would return! I will definitely be coming back to try their brunch!

Lunch options are mostly sandwiches. Our waitress Mary suggested a lemon bundt style cake for us as a special, and while it wasn't "special", it was a simple yet delightful way to whet our appetites. I ordered the Ploughman's Lunch, which was a hearty portion of all of the above savory options. Filling, but not immoderate, paying respect to the original traditional English meal. Staff was amiable and helpful. Prices, while not necessarily cheap, were quite fair (although I wouldn't trust their online prices). Reservations are recommended. I'd happily return for another try.

The first noticeable thing when you enter is undoubtably the welcoming ambiance, accentuated by the flowers and fairy lights. This place feels like it belongs in Commons rather than Collegetown. Ctown doesn't really have a lot of cafes beyond Cornell campus so I was initially excited for a nice change of scenery. However, I must say that I'm slightly disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly during the times I visited. They offer a variety of reasonably priced drinks such as their homemade fruit juice. I've tried their grape juice and it was VERY sweet -- consider yourself warned! Their kimbap is okay, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Their snack and drinks corner is absolutely adorable and makes it easy for those that want grab-and-go snack or beverage. It's super charming and makes Asian snacks accessible, saving you a trip to the Asian supermarket. As a group study spot, I probably wouldn't recommend it! The area could feel a bit tight. I came with a friend for a study session and the tables weren't big enough to hold both of our laptops. There's also seats near the windows and and blue sofas to sit but for both, you would have to work at an awkward angle. Overall, it's a good place to hang out casually with friends or to do a coffee chat.

Definitely stepped out of my comfort zone trying it because I've only had the cheese on it but none of the other ingredients. I also got the strawberry mango smoothie with oat milk and it was the perfect match to my wrap. My friends had already eaten here and were raving about how good the cheese fries were and how I could actually eat them and they really were so good! Over all it was such a great experience and I love the diner vibes. The parking is a little iffy because it's in the same area of Dominos so it's a little limited but there's a parking garage around the corner and street parking is always an option. I have a new favorite place to eat where I can order and enjoy what I'm eating in peace.
