We probably waited 45 minutes because there was 6 of us and this location does not have a lot of tables. Parking lot is big but probably busy during the week when all the other businesses are open. Our servers name was Alice. And there is probably only 2-3 servers working at that time. Everybody seemed very busy. We had waited a little bit to be greeted and waited a little bit for her to come back. Then she seemed to be irritated when giving us refills of our drinks. Food was good. Over the years I've heard a advertising spot on KOA radio about this local diner. They have 3 locations, 2 in Lakewood and 1 on West 38th in Wheat Ridge. Since I going to recycling afterwards, the closest was in Wheat Ridge. Classic diner with old style knotty pine walls and simple tables. Nice large menu for breakfast and lunch. They are open 630am-2pm daily. I was served by Chris. He brought a jug of fresh water with a lemon slice with the menu. I started with a Chai Latte which included a free refill for $ 3.69; I got the Lumbre Scrambled with scrambled eggs & sausage, topped with vegetarian green chili and a dollop of sour cream. It included a side of breakfast potatoes and a well toasted buttered English muffin with enough jam to liberally cover the muffin slices. All for $14.49 + a $1 egg surcharge (see cute poster). The entree was a bit spicy from the sausage & green chili. Quick prompt service. Chris waited till I finished the first Chai before bringing the free refill. Been wanting to try this place for a while so decided to come here with my boyfriend for some breakfast. Well it was technically brunch by the time we went. I will say I judged the looks of the place a bit snobbish because it's not the nicest looking. The prices for the regular menu was higher than I thought. Aside from that the service was quick and friendly, it wasn't really busy on a Saturday at 1pm. I decided to get the cheese omlete with mushrooms and onions. It also comes with potatoes and english muffins. Food came quickly after we ordered, big portions overall. The omlete was fluffy and flavorful, I wish the potatoes had onions and cheese on them but they were still seasoned right. Oh and the jam that came with the meal was legit. I wish I wrote down the name of the brand they said it was similiar too. Also the server gave my boyfriend the whole pot of coffee when he ordered one cup which was nice. Spring storm brought down branches and knocked out the power. Sounds like a perfect reason to go out to breakfast. We have enjoyed Sunrise Sunset over the years. There was plenty of seating and no wait. ample parking too. They have a nice variety of breakfast selections. Both kids had their 2+2+2. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and 2 of your choice of meat. I have a bacon kid and a sausage kid. Both were happy. My husband had the Mario Skillet. The skillet comes out hot on a plate. His had country potatoes with green onions, green chiles, black beans, smothered in green chili and cheese with two basted eggs. He enjoyed every bite. I had the Country Skillet. It had their potatoes topped with diced link sausage, cheese blend and country sausage gravy topped with two basted eggs. Delicious. Both skillets came with an English muffin and jam. I am the caffeinated member of the family. Here they bring your cup full and leave a pot on the table. Our family mantra is, "a caffeinated mother is a happy family." My family and I stopped by around brunch & after observing the rush , we thought it was a good place to eat given how full it was . We waited for a table, but the bar became open with seats so we decided to sit there instead, and boy did we get some really dirty looks from an older woman with curly hair. We were handed some menus and she left , we had to wait a few min to ask for some drinks and then she was gone again, busy talking to what looked like the restaurants regulars , given she hugged them and spent some time talking to them. It was our first time there , my husband had a question about the menu, when she finally decided to walk back towards the bar , she asked if we were ready, my husband said, "I have-" she cut him off by rudely rolling her eyes and saying "ugh no ok" , drank her water and took off. Didn't bother to hear the question or help us . It's understandable for restaurants to have a decent relationship with recurring customers, but to treat new people like they don't matter and wasting your time is god awful. I love cheese, not on a benedict. -Their hollandaise sauce tasted like it was straight from a package mixed with some water. There was so much of this goop on my plate that the English muffins were soggy underneath. -They don't poach the eggs, they baste them. I asked for them "over medium" but the yolks were complete liquid. I finished less than a third of what was on my plate. When a dish like this costs $10 I would MUCH rather fork over another buck or two at Snooze and wait 20 minutes. They give you these cool little pitchers with water which is brilliant . My food came out at reasonable time and most importantly my eggs were nice and warm ( not room temperature) . My Blueberry pancakes were really good with berries in the batter and on top. Service was good . Enjoyed my breakfast very much, I think I'll eat here more often. I ate here for breakfast this morning, and after getting my fill of homestyle cooking, I realized I have yet to review this, one of the crowning jewels in Highlands cookin'. After giving loyal patronage to this blessed breakfast bungalow for the three years and counting, it's time to give credit where credit is due. Dear Sunrise Sunset: thanks for making this recovering starving college student a lot more fulfilled. My roommates and I make it into Sunrise Sunset every month or two, usually for a weekend breakfast. The only reason we don't frequent it more often is probably the part of our lizardbrains that is averse to the image of a distended belly and thunderthighs. Yes, their dishes are a little slick with grease. But please, don't let the Kashi commercials fool you, folks: this is the way firstmeal is SUPPOSED to be. The menu selection is sumptuous and just a little oddball, in a wonderfully down-home way. Their pancakes are enormous and fluffy, the bacon is cooked to perfection, and their homemade jam puts Smuckers to shame. My personal favorite are their 'Sunshines', the restaurant's trademark. Skillets comprised of fried potatoes, a specialized theme (e.g. country gravy, Italian sausage and marinara, fresh veggies, etc.), and topped with basted eggs, there's one for everybody. They're also the best hangover cure known to man. Mark my words: next time you feel Sunday morning coming down, cut it to the chase and order up a Sunshine to hit the spot. The food at Sunrise Sunset keeps me happy, but the service keeps me coming back. The waitstaff at this place hasn't changed much since I started coming in a few years ago, and I wouldn't have it any other way. These waitresses are of the breed that isn't afraid to call you 'hon' and mean it. Even during a breakfast rush, they're assuredly friendly, attentive, and QUICK on their game. Reminds me of a nicer version of Mayberry...simply put, even if I have to wait a few minutes for a table (not a rare occurrence on a weekend morning), I always feel at home by the time I'm in my seat. While I could rant and rave about why Sunrise Sunset is high on my list of 'last menu' restaurants, it's not without its downsides. This location isn't vary spacious, so sometimes you have to wait for a booth to open up--well worth your patience, though. And their cuisine, while heavenly, can carry some hellacious side effects, including the desire to not eat again for the duration of the day, and an urgent trip to the commode soon after consumption. Their incendiary 'Lumbre' menu is especially persistent on the latter offense. I guess there is a price to pay for food this authentically homemade... Nevertheless, the bottom line is this: breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and Sunrise Sunset is my favorite breakfast-themed restaurant, hands-down. Their Sunshines are so damned flavor-packed, I feel guilty for sampling the rest of their menu so rarely (I can't even imagine eating lunch here, and yet the burgers look delicious!). Have a look at the menu--good luck finding something unappealing--and let the staff take care of the rest. If it's the weekend, chances are you earned the siesta, and Sunrise Sunset is more than happy to accomodate. read more

Ironically, Sunrise Sunset does not stay open till sunset. Think, breakfast and lunch. They do however open very early to accommodate Wheat Ridge's aging retirees who get up at 6am to drink coffee and despair over the state of "kids these days" and "grandkids these days" and "great-grandkids these days." To keep those aging tickers ticking, Sunrise Sunset cooks all of their Colorado-produced eggs in water by basting them. The result is a perfectly cooked egg however you order it. I recommend you try the vegetarian benedict or the black bean breakfast burrito with green chili. You can't go wrong because everything on the menu is good, affordable, and served quickly by a fantastic server. So go, drink coffee, and complain all you want. But you won't be complaining about the food, which is quite good. read more

I would almost always choose the (more) independent restaurant to a big chain, but honestly, Denny's has Sunrise Sunset beat. When I actually manage to get out of bed early enough to eat breakfast, it's because I had to, so I don't want to waste a lot of time eating. Unfortunately, Sunrise simply does not give you this choice. Service is painfully slow and I'm pretty sure that the owners went to Denny's, IHOP, and Village Inn and then did their best to copy the dishes without actually eating them to see what they should taste like.
