I'd passed this restaurant a lot and decided to stop after hearing that the breakfast was good. We entered a welcoming setting and took a seat wherever we pleased. I ordered a waffle with strawberry compote, and my breakfast buddy ordered the chicken-fried steak. His plate was polished, so my friends must have been good. Although a little too sweet for my sweet tooth, mine was still very good. The staff was friendly, attentive to my needs, and kept my cup full while serving me fresh coffee. I have been eating at this restaurant for over 22 years. I have seen it go through changes, staff, and Ownership. Regardless of it all, this place remains a solid "go-to," for an amazing Cobb salad, a hangover breakfast such as the "Mass Confusion," or even an average cheeseburger with fries. The prices are perfect, the Waitresses are always friendly and the atmosphere is usually elderly whom are generally just happy to see you too. My Grandmother took me here every Wednesday for so many years and even as an adult now I will stop by any time I'm in the area and never regret my experience. My favorite breakfast item is the Mazatlan Burrito and the green Chile is just perfect for someone who isn't into too much spice. I was inspired to write this review by the recent news story of the elderly couple celebrating their 75th anniversary. Now, I have no idea if The Chalet has been around that long (I know it's been here at least since the 70s, according to the decor), but I do know that, on any given night, you can get your fill of Senior-Watching here... provided that, by "night," you mean "roughly 5:36pm." Early bird special, yo. The Chalet is to our Golden-Aged Citizens what (insert hot, of-the-moment restaurant name) is to (insert descriptive adjective for the young, plugged-in, and trend-seeking). You won't find anything on the menu listed as "localvore" or "sustainable" or "deconstructed" or even "organic." You will, however, find liver and onions. I defy you to name one person under 65 who has EVER ordered liver and onions. That said, what they do... they do well. The fries (always a standard by which to judge) are fresh-cut and crispy, with bits of skin still on. Perfect in every way. My husband and I both ordered the Gyro Sandwich (it was that kind of night), and it came just as a Gyro should... wrapped in paper in a slightly-crispy pita, with plenty of meat and just the right amount of tomatoes. My only critique was the tzaziki sauce... it was amazingly good at the time, but as the night (and yes, ours at the Chalet DID start at roughly 5:36pm) wore on, the lingering taste (and accompanying offenses) of the amount of raw garlic up in that mix was hard to handle. Twelve hours (and several teeth-brushings, Listerine-swishings, and Eclipse-gum-chewings) later, that garlic residue was still there. Ouch. If you can get over yourself and your OOAK steampunk bamboo-fiber shrowl (SO hot on Etsy right now) long enough to make the trek out to Wheat Ridge, be sure to pop into The Chalet. I imagine that this is one of those places that has a SLAMMIN' breakfast. Not to judge... but these kind of places usually do. read more

Stopped in after landing in Denver en route to Glenwood Springs. My friends and I were super starved and yelp sent us to Jimmys. Its a typical greasy spoon type diner filled with locals. The hostess/waitress sat us right away and was super nice and welcoming. I ordered their house breakfast specialty which was 2 biscuits covered in white gravy with eggs, bacon and cheese piled on top. I try to stay away from food like this, but I was on vacation so what the hell?! The portions were huge and our waitress kept our coffees filled. The BFF had a skillet scramble and the other BFF had some sort of poached egg and toast. They both said everything was good. We noticed a lot of older people in the establishment and a lot of regulars. Being a regular could be dangerous since the portions are so huge! I plan on visiting the area again next year and look forward to porking out at Jimmy's! read more

The food is great; the prices are right; the servers are excellent. The ladies provide classic diner type service. Of special note is they greet the regulars by name and know what they want to order. Of even more special note, a developmentally disabled man, a regular, walked in to be served and they treated him like everyone else, with kindness and consideration. There was no prejudice against him for his disability; he was welcome and wanted. They kept my coffee filled and really made me feel like it was ok to stay as long as I wished. The waitress was nice and polite, hence the one extra star, but I will never eat here again. I went there around 12:00 to celebrate with family for my cousins graduation, and I LOVE breakfast food so I ordered waffles. They looked amazing when they came, but they tasted a lot like sour dough. So I told the server and she apologized and brought out s new batch which tasted much better. She said that the batter used for pancakes and waffles were used with spoiled milk, but the server was very nice and even gave me my meal free. read more

I stopped here on a whim after a massage last Saturday when myself and my dining companions were in a dazed "I just want to eat and then pass out" state of relaxation. Walking in, The Chalet is exactly what you would picture it to be from the outside. It's a nice little diner that has some interesting characters both eating and working. Their menu is typical diner fair with some Greek twists to it. I got the Italian sausage and eggs, my dining companions got the fried chicken and the eggs Benedict. The chicken was awesome and I would definitely get this again. My dish was just fine and filled me up. I would order this again. The Hollaindaise (sp?) was a little weird on the eggs Benedict. I am almost certain that it was not homemade. It still tasted good, though. I'll definitely be returning. read more

Standard greasy spoon with an average customer base of over 50 year old men and typically terrible coffee. Tacky western/rural decor just adds to the charm. No mind-blowing dishes, but the food hits the spot and exactly what you expect walking into a joint like this. Breakfast burritos are big, the turkey melt is pretty average, but pretty delicious with a side of gravy for dunking. The proximity to my house is a major factor in coming here as is having a serious hangover. read more

Normally I have enjoyed eating here. The servings are generous and I have not had a complaint in the times we've been there. However, this most recent visit, while waiting on our meal, we watched another customer licking the opening of his pancake syrup container after every use. GAG We brought it to our waitresses attention and once the customer left, it just sat on the table, I'm sure forgotten about. Didn't seem to bother the staff. It wouldn't have taken much to at least appear to want to do something about it. I doubt the staff behind the counter even had the message passed on to them by the time the table was bussed a good 20 minutes later. I doubt I'll be going back. It's enough to let your imagination wander when you don't see what goes on with your food, but to see something like that and all they do is giggle and agree it's gross while leaving it there and going on about their day - that's a future no for me. read more

I'll break this up into 2 parts: 4 stars for lunch. Went with family around 2:00pm and we all enjoyed our selections. I ordered the tuna on croissant sandwich. To say I am picky about my tuna is an understatement, so I was reluctant at first. The waitress suggested I try a bit first and brought out a little sampling. It was delicious! Seriously one of the best tuna salads I have had. The croissant was fresh and the fries were decent. Will be back just for this! 2-3 stars for breakfast. Me: 2, my boyfriend: 3. We both had omelets. An omelet should be eggs folded around ingredients; egg on the outside, cheese, peppers, whatever on the inside. Their "omelets" are basically a scramble of stuff shaped to resemble an omelet. The tomatoes were smushy and the yellow american cheese was not appealing. The hash browns were a little overdone. I liked the biscuit. The service was good however, and my guy liked his Greek omelet enough, but to be honest, he likes just about anything. Go for lunch. Can't say how dinner is, but I will try it someday. read more

First time eating here. I'm on a road trip from California to Pennsylvania and stopped to see friends. My car needed some work down down the street so I stopped in to eat some breakfast. Walking in it looks like a typical local diner. I love local diners and restaurants. The staff is super friendly and the food was delicious. I'm still trying to figure out what they put in the hollandaise sauce. It's definitely home made. Tastes totally different from any hollandaise sauce I have had. Throws you off at first because it just seems a little off but it is delicious. The serving sizes are great. The price for everything was very reasonable and definitely worth every penny and more. For the people worried about the roach comment. I used to work in pest control and I can tell you that every restaurant, unless it is brand new, has roaches. Even IHOP, Denny's, and chipotle have them. Anywho, I loved my experience here today and if I'm in the area again I will definitely be coming back. read more

Why does anyone give these guys ANY stars?! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants until they changed management a few years ago. Now they're nothing but a bunch of mean bastards. Last time I went in, we were completely ignored and practically had to beg for menus. The waitress never came back to check on us, and we had to go to the counter to ask for our bill. On the way, my 85 year old mother slipped on a big puddle of water. Not one person came to our assistance. When I went to help her up, I fell, too. That's when I saw the "Wet floor" sign about six feet past the spill. The crabby guy at the counter refused to make eye contact. He didn't say one word to us, not thank you, sorry, or anything. I will never go back to this dump and I hope they go out of business very, very soon. read more

Why do I love this place for breakfast. Is it the table of old ladies glaring at my Cannibal Corpse shirt or the tweaker in the table across the room? No, not me, the dude over there. Anyway, it's good breakfast. The chicken fried steak does the trick. So does the gyros breakfast. They have all the staples of a diner with some Greek food as well. Oh, and the coffee guy, well, let's just say he is very attentive. A skilled coffee pusher. If that cup isn't full he will be there to fill it. The waitresses are cool, friendly and work hard. Tip them good you miserly lump. I always can get a booth facing the door (I hate tables and I hate my back to the door). The lighting is just right, somewhat on the darker side. I eat here at least once a month for breakfast sometimes more. The food is so good the place is clean the waiters are friendly and polite. There's always seating and the food comes out fast. They food is made exactly the way you ask. They always make sure your drinks are full. I recommend this place to all my friends and family.
