When we first arrived, no one was here. It was not the most beautiful day. But I was expecting someone to be dining here on a Thursday afternoon. But at the same time, I also did not mind having all of the servers to ourselves. We just got done with the massage and I was craving something Mexican. When I sat down and started looking at the menu and saw that there were so many different classics to choose from as well as some twists on new flavors. I was pretty excited to try this place out. I was not crazy about the chips and salsa. The chips are really hard. And the salsa is extra spicy, which is completely unnecessary. So we just didn't eat much of that. Put her food didn't come out quickly and it was hunt and it was very good. I had to cheese enchiladas and I cleaned my plate. My date had a burrito. Smothered and it looked. Super yummy. It was really good. I was very surprised at how good it was and how it hit home. I'm used to eating Mexican food in Mexico and in Texas and this was fabulous. When we got the bill, I was surprised that how affordable our mail was for is what we got. I thought that this is definitely somewhere. I would want to visit again. This is classic. Sucks, sucks, sucks! Horrible customer service and totally bland food. We will never go back there. I will tell everyone the horrible experience we had. Ripped us off for a whole meal and they said that Uber places the order therefore I will have to call corporate. Of course there is no number for corporate. Across the street from the upscale Mexican restaurant in Arvada, this is a more typical Tex-Mex experience. Be warned! The service is usually pretty slow, even when it's not super busy, but grab a pitcher of margaritas to keep your glass full and enjoy the company and some delicious food! The food does come out in a normal time once your server gets around to you, so not a major concern there. The margaritas are good, the Queso Fundido- while a cheese dip instead of a normal fundido- is delicious, and the portions of food are more than generous. The food was delicious Wifey got Chili relleno's delicious My boys got ChiliCheese fries with shredded Chicken and a Burrito Supreme with beef was "gas" as they say. Full disclosure - we found Wapos Cantina, literally, by accident. Had we looked at the Yelp reviews, this likely wouldn't have been a happy accident, but it is what it is. Two other Mexican places nearby had 25 minute waits and higher prices. Yes, the ambiance is a little different, but at the end of the day, I'm down for good food, great staff and affordability. Wapos has all three. Their location isn't bad either, but they admittedly don't have great curb appeal. You might completely miss them, if you weren't really looking. Thank goodness we were. Their entrance is through a large walkway and once you pass their threshold, you realize how large their place is. Got a large group? No problem. Everyone, and I mean literally everyone, here was friendly and laughing. Everyone seemed to be in a great mood when we visited and took care of patrons with a smile. One guy behind the bar even sung along with their killer play list. Yep, I might have joined in. It was a good song. So now you know, we sat at the bar. Out came fresh chips and spicy, rich tomatoey salsa. My fav. This is salsa worth taking home. House marg and although not on the menu, I asked for a spicy marg. Both were really smooth and well balanced. They don't use store bought mixers here. It's all house made. Small change with a big impact. We each had two. We were crunched for time so ordered easy, fast entrees, and man, they came out fast. But holy cow, were they both delicious. Loaded nachos - only thing I'd change next time is to ask for queso cheese instead of shredded. His carnita tacos needed no edits. Wow. We were both blown away. I thought of all the folks across the way paying so much more for their meals and drinks - all when they could have as good or better meals here. And def a better price. Solid Mexican spot in Old town. I met some fellow mama friends here after a local story time and we were the only ones there. They sat us at a table that was partial chairs and partial couches which was a bit odd for having 3 toddlers and a 10 month old but we made it work. Wait staff were pleasant and the food was good. GUYS. Come here. It's by far the best Mexican restaurant in Arvada, (especially on this little corner that is saturated with "Mexican" food) and undoubtedly one of the best in Denver! The food is seasoned to perfection, you won't find that bland fajita/ taco meat here. Also my husband and I have become addicted to their chicken tortilla soup. Seriously, it's a problem. Lol. It's brothy, yet hearty and SO flavorful. We've been getting it for lunch once a week since we discovered it, and it's plenty for the both of us. The enchiladas are absolutely delicious and the chips and salsa are on point. I've eaten inside twice, and it's been dead both times. WOW, Absolutely DELICIOUS! From the start with Torteas and Guacamole, incredibly fresh and delicious! The Cheese (queso) enchiladas and mild sauce, I think the Cantina grow their own tomatoes! The sauces, had a slight (picante) heat in the backdrop of my palate. Fresh lettuce and more tomatoes, with black beans. Absolutely amazing. Service: Impecable via Edwardo who sub as bar tender, waiter and host. The ambiance has many rooms to choose from, plus a beautifully laid-out patio, with lights for the nighttime, including, the area I sat is an alternative to a closed or covered patio extension. And the cost for more than two meals, was an ease to pay. Although parking is hard to find, this little hidden restaurant is worth looking for and walking to from your distant parking! Based on their glowing reviews, we (my husband, son, brother and sister-in-law) came for lunch before we attended the Titanic exhibit. When we entered, we were met and we asked to be seated outside since it was such a pleasant day and they had umbrellas over their tables. We sat at a round five-top metal table in the shade of an umbrella, and were quite comfortable. We were given menus and a pitcher of water and glasses. Despite is being happy hour all day on Monday, we decided to order a pitcher of margaritas for the five of us. Complimentary chips and salsa arrived and were fallen upon hungrily. The salsa had a somewhat smoky taste and was very fresh. My brother-in-law ordered steak fajitas, my sister-in-law had 2 tacos, one fish taco & one vegetarian taco, my son ordered enchiladas, my husband had the vegetarian enchiladas, and I ordered the Enchiladas Jalisco, one chicken and one cheese. All the food was deemed excellent by every one of us. I especially enjoyed the Jalisco sauce on my enchiladas. Don't sleep on this place - I know that there are a LOT of options that seem similar in olde town, but Wapos shouldn't be overlooked. We've had takeout once and it was a great quick option, but this was our first time eating in and we walked out saying "we'll be back soon!" Easy to get a seat, SUPER friendly and helpful service (I didn't hear a single question asked about a substitute or special request that wasn't answered with "yes no problem") and WOW best skinny marg I can remember - very fresh and a great mix of orange and lime. Pro tip, they make them with mezcal if requested (yummmmmm). Our bartender / server was working incredibly hard but also took the time to connect and give his opinions on what to order. He was awesome, wish we had caught his name for shoutout. I tried the chicken tequila - really tasty and flavorful without being too spicy or tangy. Husband got the chile verde burrito which definitely had a kick but that's what he was going for so he was happy. The guac was good but nothing special - we'll try the queso next time based on some other reviews, and will definitely try breakfast too. Worth nothing that they have 6-7 vegetarian options and they looked so good I almost went that direction. This isn't a fancy place, but you get to choose your own adventure in terms of bar stools, inside, outside, patio. Lots of TVs at the bar so I would imagine a great option to catch games when they're on. read more

Sooo happy to have found this lovely restaurant. Nestled in the quaint neighborhood of Olde Town, it is quite unassuming on the outside, but when you walk in, it's comfortable and lively. Everyone is super welcoming. Plenty of seating with high top tables, booths and a bar. What drew me initially was the vegetarian section on the menu. We started off with the complimentary chips and salsa which were solid but be prepared for some heat as the salsa packs a serious punch. I also opted for their skinny margarita on their HH menu, made in-house. Then came my hubby's al pastor tacos. Incredible!!! We haven't had al pastor this good since Mexico. Served street style with a scoop of guac, a yummy salsa and some Pico. My quesadilla primavera, also delicious.. light cheese as requested with mushrooms and spinach. The rice and beans it came with were so flavorful. We had a lovely conversation with Eddie, the manager. Such a wholesome human being that works hard for his customers. It's just fine which is honestly pretty rough in an area like Olde Town. I really wanted to give it a chance so I've gone back a few more times. I'm not sure how it go such good reviews, the food is similar to what you'd get at a chain like Chuy's. My girlfriend and I had lunch here. It's a great location and we live nearby so we wanted to support a local, non-chain restaurant. The food was pretty good. The queso was very runny which seems like a cheap way to make queso. I had the steak tacos which were good but seemed to be lacking some flavor. One of the offenses though was the $2 for a small cup of sour cream. The second offense, though, was the tip options to pay the bill. I understand there is a lot of uproar going on between tipping and adding a service charge to make up for a tip. But typically the tip options are 10%, 15%, and 20%. But at this place, the tip options START at 20%! The options were 20%, 25%, and 30%! I'm sorry but restaurants need to stop trying to extort tips from people. I ended up putting in my own tip which was around 10% because that really bothered us after the food only being pretty good. I wish the restaurant the best of luck, though! read more

This is a relatively new restaurant in Old Town Arvada. We decided to give them a try since it has many good reviews. Sure enough it was a very nice place for us to have a lunch. First, be aware that parking in Old Town can be a small problem. There is plenty of public parking but it can involve a short walk to get to this place on the corner of Old Wadsworth Boulevard and Ralston Road. It's a crowded intersection with three Mexican places on 3 of the four corners. This place years ago was a great breakfast place but it has since changed over. The cantina is quite nice inside with a bar area, inside seating and a nice patio. I took a few photos for all that. It's clean and the service is good. I ordered the smothered burrito supreme. I asked for the meat to be ground beef though you have a choice of ground beef, shredded beef or chicken. My spouse ordered the chicken. The supreme comes with avocado and sour cream. They arrived in very large plates and looked fantastic. Again I took photos. Our third person ordered the quesadilla primavera. Wow! Did it look great! Besides the beautiful impression all of this made the food itself was quite good and very filling. We all took home half or more of our plates. It was all tasty, moist, flavorful and very enjoyable. Pricing seemed more reasonable than the competition but I liked the fact we had a nice time and were not crowded out by people. If you want Mexican head to that intersection and choose which place to go for your food. Our choice was not crowded and that worked out great for us. I'm continually impressed by the quality of food and drinks at Wapos. The tacos al pastor have an exceptional combination of flavors that you just don't get anywhere else. This newest Mexican spot to hit Olde Town hits differently than the other options around. This style reminds me of the Mexican food in Arizona. First off you get loaded up with chips and salsa which is like bread at an Italian place. An absolute staple imho. There's a good variety for meat lovers and vegetarians alike which isn't always the case for Mexican cuisine. Loving this new spot. Pro-tip: parking in olde town is not the greatest. Updating my review to 4 stars because they completely messed up our check. Took over 10 minutes and asking two different times to get the check, we gave our card and they charged us for someone else's meal?! ... how does that even happen. We then had to go in to get it voided and the manager swapped it out. I understand they just opened but the service needs work. They also took our umbrella while we were sitting down eating and we purposely chose that table for the umbrella... New spot that just opened in Old Towne, so we had to check it out! When we sat down we got chips and salsa! Salsa had a slight kick but was good! We also got the guacamole and Queso Fundito to start which were good! I got a Peach Frozen Margarita, which was amazing, and then tried the skinny marg after! For entrees we ordered the chicken quesadillas (no beans) and the combination (chicken enchilada, chile relleno and pork tamale). Chicken quesadillas were good! And my fiance was very happy with the combo! No spice though on the combo, salsa had more of a kick. I'm not a spicy person, so that doesn't bother me though. For dessert we had to try the fried ice cream and the churros. The desserts were HUGE and we def didn't each need our own, especially after all the food All in all - 10/10 cannot wait to come back! We love coming to this restaurant! The Arvada location is our favorite. We tell all of our friends and bring them to try Wapos cantina knowing it will be an awesome experience. Their food and margaritas are fresh and served with warm hospitality. Eddie along with the other staff are always so welcoming, friendly, and fun! They have two large patios and the inside seating is comfortable and clean. Bathrooms are always well lit and clean too. My husband and I recommend the skinny margaritas or Cadillac margs. The guacamole, pregnant burrito, verde burrito, chili rellenos, carnitas tacos are definitely our regular favorites. This place is a must try!! read more

Went online to Yelp to find a restaurant for lunch after flying in from So Cal. We found Wapos in Arvada and we were so thankful. We've got great Mexican food at home but Wapos blew us away. Mario was very welcoming and got us started with a picture of margaritas. Excellent and on happy hour. Then we had fantastic salsa and chips. The salsa can really tell you how good a Mexican restaurant will be and theirs was delicious. I ordered the burrito supreme with shredded beef. It was excellent. The right ratio of beans(less) and beef (more) and nicely covered with a red sauce. Also ordered by our group was grilled shrimp tacos, carnitas tacos and the Jalisco enchiladas. Everyone loved their meals. Great quality good portions for a good price. Full bar too. I'd suggest going. They have multiple locations and it's a small business owner. Enjoy! read more

The atmosphere was lively. They have a bar side and a restaurant side. The booths are large so it's fits a big party! They have cute little hangers for bags or coats to make more space. A great Mexican joint in old town, Arvada the decor is bright and joyful. The staff super friendly and accommodating. They're happy to offer. Suggestions whether you're looking for drinks or food. I had three tacos two of them. I did shaggy style. That's simply a hard shell taco with a soft taco shell wrapped around the outside of it and a layer of beans in between I did that with the Lengua and the Birria. I had the Chorizo on a soft shell. All of them were excellent. I highly recommend shaggy style. They stuff the tacos adequately, so after 3 I was decently full. The salsa is good but I wish it was a little spicier. All three were about the same. The guacamole was delicious! My only complaint is the price they charge for chips and salsa. It is my belief that Mexican restaurants should give you chips and salsa or if they're going to charge for it it should be a minimal cost appetizer. read more
