I called to ask if they were available for a dip mani. They said yes and to come in. I arrived…read moreabout 7 mins later as I live very close. They made me wait 25 mins before someone worked on my nails. The first woman took off my previous dip and sanded the nail beds. Then, she gave me to a different woman for the next steps. I had already told her I did not want that woman as she had done my nails previously and they were lumpy and had a black speck on one nail that I saw and told her that wasn't supposed to be there and she said you wouldn't be able to see it when we were done but when we were done you could see it plain as day and when I asked her to redo that nail, she said she couldn't see anything and the nail was fine. So, I told the woman I would rather have someone else do the finishing of the nails this time. She then sanded my nails some more for the prep and I had to wait an additional 30 mins for another woman to be available. No problem, a good set of nails is worth the wait. Overall, it took them 2 hours to do nails that shouldn't have taken more than 70 mins. Normally, my nails last 3 weeks and the only thing forcing me to get them redone at that time is the grow out. 6 days after getting my nails dipped, the tips and sides started to peel away from the dip and the top coat started to peel off. I was out of town and couldn't go back to the salon until day 10, and by that time 3 of my nails had the tips ripped off completely from snagging on stuff. Keep in mind these are my real nails. I've been having my nails dip mani for over 4 years straight and this has never happened. This was caused by lack of experience and expertise when prepping and finishing my nails. When I finally went into the salon to show the manager my nails, she said that happens with real nails. Ummm, no it doesn't. It's never happened to me. I asked for her to remove the remaining product from my nails and provide me a refund of my $70 I paid. She said refunds were against their policy but she would have someone fix them. I had already had everyone at her store do my nails at some point and none of them were worth $70 and 2 hours of my time. So no thanks on your sub par service. Ultimately, she chose to not give me a refund and told me she would prefer I leave a negative review of her business. I was very disappointed in her choice of outcome.

It's taken me a while to write this review because quite honestly I'm still getting over how…read moretraumatic the experience was (and yes, I am using the word traumatic correctly). I was referred to Emmy by a co-worker so I was really excited. I will admit that I have had trouble finding a respectful nail tech who does good work in Portland. As soon as I entered the shop, Emmy's sister said something under her breathe. I let it go because I did not want to be paranoid. During the appointment, Emmy's sister left. Emmy was professional and did a great job with doing my nails. Right before my appointment was over, Emmy's sister returned. Her sister came over to me and said, "you're hair makes me want to pull out my flat iron." Mind you I am a Black woman who typically wears her hair natural (often Afro-like). I was shocked, and appalled. I didn't know what to say. She made a gesture as if to touch my hair (without my permission of course), but stopped herself. I told her that I loved my hair and she said, "yeah, God makes us all different for a reason." If that was the extent of this awful experience I may not be writing this post, but it gets worse. Emmy's sister starts to inspects my nails and says something to Emmy not in English, and Emmy responds in English "no she is not broke." At this point I'm like wtf?! I say "no, I'm not broke." Emmy sister says "well your nail art is so basic. People come in here getting basic nail art because they are broke. She has had clients who say they are broke." At that point I am embarrassed and angry. This woman was being so unprofessional and Emmy, the owner of the shop did not stop her from antagonizing me. AND it didn't stop there. Once my nails were done, Emmy and her sister stared at me the entire time waiting for payment as of they were waiting to judge how I was going to pay. When I tell you my hands were shaking, I was so embarrassed, hurt, frustrated. They watched me like a hawk. So much so that when Emmy received an alert to her phone, she said "there it is." (Referring to my payment) and when it wasn't, she said "oh no it isn't." If I could give a zero, I would. I don't know anyone who would have appreciated being disrespected or being antagonized at their nail appointment about their looks or what they can afford. Emmy definitely does good work, but it should not be at the extent of being harassed by her sister/employee. Below is her response to my colleague who called her out. It is not really an apology and if she was really apologetic she would have contacted me directly.

I almost felt like they were not open like maybe I walked in while they were still opening.. I didn't wanna make a big deal out of things so I just said "Hello". Nobody responded to me for a minute and then without asking me if I was getting a pedicure or manicure abruptly, told me to sit in seat one. I really make it a point to wash my hands before my service just out of respect for the tech but I felt like I was doing something wrong by moving around the shop because of the way that they were staring at me. When I sat down, I tried to say hello and strike up a small conversation. Literally the only thing that she said to me was "hello and do you work today?". No response to the question that she , She just stopped talking after that. I'm very introverted myself so I tried also to not take this personally. But I couldn't help but feel like I just was not welcome. I picked a color and although I know, sometimes the colors change slightly underneath of the light this color had to have been old because when I tell you the color that is on my fingernails is not the color that I chose, pretty frustrating and considering I snuck this appointment before I had work, I did not have time for her to take it off and change it . All well during this appointment there is a man in the back corner of the shop, banging on a pipe and making all this loud noise. Which is fine if repairs need to be done OK , but people literally work hard for their money and they wanna come here and relax and get their nails done not listen to a construction zone . And the last thing I'll say is that I didn't ask for a major design. I asked for a tiny little heart with a specific angle. And as she was trying to do this, I noticed that my middle nail was completely crooked. Not angled wrong because of how my nail bed is laying, like actually crooked. I tried to express that it was crooked and all she did was file it more crookedly. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately $60 for a full set that is basically crooked and wrong doesn't feel fair. I just simply left after paying. And i dont think ill be back. Could be worth another shot. But im not satisfied.

I had one of the worst nail salon experiences I've ever had. In over 10 years of getting my nails…read moredone, I have never left a salon feeling this uncomfortable, frustrated, embarrassed, and disrespected. This was my first time coming here. I had a male nail tech, who I'm not sure was the owner or related to the owner. I asked for an ombré on my natural nails. Anytime I tried to explain something I wanted changed or adjusted, I felt like I was being told that I didn't know what I wanted. Instead of simply listening to me as the client, nearly every concern turned into a back-and-forth conversation. What made it even more uncomfortable was that whenever he would say something, other employees would immediately join in or make comments as well. It created an extremely uncomfortable environment and made me feel like I was being ganged up on simply for speaking up about a service I was paying for. At one point, I genuinely felt like the employees were talking about me, so I started recording. Shortly afterward, it seemed like the conversation shifted to why I was recording, which only added to how uncomfortable I already felt. The part that bothered me the most was when he was filing my natural nails with the electric file. It became hot and was burning my finger, so I pulled my hand away and told him it was burning. Instead of acknowledging what I was physically feeling, he told me that it "shouldn't be burning." Whether it was supposed to or not, it was burning me. I should not have to argue with someone about what I am physically feeling on my own hand. I was also surprised to be charged separately for shaping my natural nails when they were already essentially the shape I wanted and only needed minor cleanup. I understand nail services can become expensive, and I have no problem paying for services, but I do expect charges to make sense and be clearly communicated. By the end, I was visibly frustrated and embarrassed from repeatedly trying to communicate what I wanted. I understand there may have been a language barrier, and I tried to remain patient and respectful because of that. However, a language barrier does not excuse making a customer feel dismissed, laughed at, or uncomfortable for expressing concerns about their service. Despite the entire experience, I still kindly tipped him. What really bothered me was that even after I tipped, I heard what sounded like side comments followed shortly afterward by laughter. After already feeling like I was being talked about throughout my appointment, that was extremely uncomfortable and honestly felt disrespectful. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I was asking for small adjustments to the service I was paying for and communicating when something physically hurt. A customer should be able to do that without feeling like they are inconveniencing the nail tech or becoming the topic of conversation among the staff. For a first-time customer, this experience was extremely disappointing. I came in wanting to get my nails done and enjoy myself--not leave feeling embarrassed for speaking up about my own nails. I still remained respectful, paid for my service, and tipped despite how uncomfortable I felt. Unfortunately, based on my experience, this was far from anything close to "luxury" I will not be bringing my business or money back here again.

I was literally flinching away from her when she was working on those fingers where the nail was obviously aggravated and red, and she still was trying to continue! I had to tell her they were too sensitive. Also, it took an hour and a half for a simple removal. I ended up giving her a good tip only because I didn't want to wait there any longer for her to get change. I decided to write a review since this occurred four days ago and my affected nails are still so sensitive to the touch and temperature, which I've never experienced before. I'd recommend getting your nails done here but removed somewhere else. 5 stars for the dip application, 1 star for the removal = 3 stars overall.
