I had gone to alter ego for a massage. After that, I had a chance to speak with Maddie and asked about getting my haircut by her. We set up an appointment and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with her expertise and the beautiful haircut she gave me! She is truly an artist and knows her craft. The stylist who colored my hair was nice enough but shouldn't be coloring hair until she's more confident. I saw her to get a touchup to my ash blonde hair. I have graying hair and have previously used at home kits to achieve this color when in a pinch so it's not a stretch. When she was finished, she pulled the towel off my hair and I was horrified!!! My hair was dark orange, completely the opposite from the ash blonde she was matching from my old growth. I went home in tears. Over the next week I reached out via text and voicemail to no avail. Finally, feeling desperate, I texted her that I would leave appropriate feedback. She quickly answered, saying she had dealt with a family emergency, cut her finger quite badly and had taken on more responsibility at her aunt's salon than she should have. To be fair, she offered to fix it but I was too nervous to return. Given I would need to go elsewhere for a color correction, I requested a partial refund of the $160 I paid for orange hair, thinking she'd only charge me for the slight trim. She offered an $80 refund instead. I didn't bother arguing with her. I decided to count it as an expensive lesson for us both and I wanted to be compassionate regarding her family emergency. My cousin's fiancé sent me Katie's instagram while we were trying to look for places to go near home to get our nails done (nailsbykatiep). I looked through her instagram and her work is AMAZING. I messaged her on instagram to schedule an appointment for my cousins fiancé and I. When I got to the salon, Katie greeted me with a huge smile! I'm an really indecisive person when it comes to my nails but she helped me pick what would best suit me. She did EXACTLY what I wanted from the picture I showed her and did a little extra touch on the design. I love it here! It may help that the best stylist ever (Karlee F.) works here, but, the salon is gorgeous, too. It has a lovely, open feel and everyone is warm and welcoming. They like appointments, but, will try to squeeze you in quickly if you're a walk-in. Now, I already mentioned her, but, Karlee really is the best and I HIGHLY recommend her (I drive half an hour, past nearly a dozen other salons to have her do my hair. She's the only one I let touch it anymore. She salvaged a monstrosity of a haircut I received at MHCC beauty school and I've been loyal ever since.). I've seen her cuts, color, waxing, styling and more and I'm always impressed! She even did my hair for my sister-in-law's wedding and a formal event for my husband's work and the hair lasted All. Went with my mother and friend for mani-pedis. The folks there were pretty accommodating since we were a walk in and mostly pleasant. However, Sue left us all with a rather poor impression and only a decent-ish nail job for what we paid. Also, the place REALLY needs to be dusted. Everything there is covered in a thick layer and it'd probably go a long way if the front got a better cleaning than it currently has. The long story: To explain, my mother was done by another woman while Sue started on the other two of us. When it got to be my turn, my friend left for the back to soak and chat with my mom. To speed the process along it was suggested the other woman work on my friend's feet but Sue vehemently didn't want this and was very pushy about it. Finally I had to suggest we didn't want to be here too long and that we'd really appreciate it if she'd let the other girl work on my friend's feet. Understandably I could see why the other girl was nervous about suggesting this to Sue since she came off as quite the bully about wanting to do both my friend and I'm toes and nails. It ended up working out quite well since we finished at about the same time, but I will say I've gotten better mani-pedis for half the price. Sue did a great job on my cuticles and all, but the paint itself was very rushed. The beds are already showing 3 days later and the the edges (not the ends) weren't even all the way covered after she finished. (I'd add a pic but since it's been 3 days that wouldn't be a fair representation of the original job she did.) I hate to single someone out like this, but we all unanimously decided we won't be visiting, if only because we felt like we were stepping on eggshells around Sue. :( read more

Do not see Katie the rattlesnake, nice at first, sucking you in with a beautiful, but deadly smile. My friend saw Katie and WOW! Katie does awesome nails but has the professionalism of a rattlesnake. So sad Katie's beauty is only skin deep. As far as I am concerned Alter Ego is a terrible, terrible place for nails unless you see Mary, the owner, she rocks. As with anyplace beware who you go to. Sue is sweet but her nail tech work is not on point. Sue cannot see well, the person who wrote she is the Edward Scissorhands of nail filing is absolutely correct, my friend saw Sue. Sue will file you bloody, the nail polish is plastered everywhere, I do mean everywhere. It was months later that my friend's cuticles finally started healing. My friend's nails would have looked better if a five year old had painted them. read more

There is no receptionist, so you book with your provider individually (I love that! Way easier to text when it's convenient than waiting around for business hours.) I was here only two days ago and my shellac is chipping off significantly. Same with my pedicure. 2 DAYS?! And it is already coming off? That really sucks. I had bought the groupon, which I wish I could have just returned because I kept getting texts all the time about rescheduling. Which was kind of annoying. But as I was leaving the work looked good. My toe nails were a little short, but oh well the color was awesome. But as we were in the car I noticed how bumpy, thick and inconsistent my shellac manicure was. And my toes are chipping really fast. The shellac started chipping yesterday as well. And to add some perspective, these two days I've had off from work and school so I haven't been doing any strenuous activities with my hands or feet. If I'm spending over $35 on something I would really hope it would last. I'm super disappointed and a little angry that I just spent money on something that didn't even last a week. Now I'm going to probably have it all taken off on my next day off so my nails aren't all chipped and broken looking. Super disappointed. read more

The lady that did my nails was Sue. Don't get me wrong, she was very sweet and kind and took me as a walk-in with 2 little ones tagging along, but I will never come here again. I came in with a full set of acrylics minus 3 nails because mine tend to start lifting and come off. She put on the nail tips and then started applying the acrylic. It was thick and chunky. As it dried, I had acrylic all over my hands and stuck underneath my fingernails. I figured I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and wait until she filed them down before I panicked. That's when things got BAD. This lady is the Edward Scissorhands of the nail world. I have cuts all over my fingers and at the time they were bleeding. She couldn't shape my nails. At first I wanted stiletto nails but they were extremely crooked so I asked if I could have square instead. She couldn't even get the top straight so she gave me the file and I had to fix it myself. My pinky nail on my left hand (one of the 3 nail tips she put on) is almost a good half a centimeter shorter than my other hand. It doesn't sound like a lot but when it comes to little fingernails it makes a huge difference. Last but not least, the polish (which was shellac) is still semi see through and it's not even covering my whole nail. This lady said she has been doing this for more than 40 years but it doesn't seem like she even knows what she's doing. It was not worth the 45 dollars I spent. read more

I always get my nails done by Mary there. She does a great job! I have had my nails done several other places when I have been in a bind or need to get them done at the last minute but always end up going back to Mary to get them fixed. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to quality with your nails! Mine are never overly thick and last 3 weeks before they start lifting, acrylics from other salons generally start lifting within the first week for me. read more

I reviewed her on Groupon several months ago. It was my first experience with threading, and while I still don't have a preference between waxing and threading, I left there feeling amazing. Sue Does the best nails I have ever had. I came into town and had my nails done by her and the most amazing pedicure. I had acrylics. She fit me in her schedule fast. Traveling through Oregon and decided to take a chance on a stylist at Alter Ego Salon. First, Blondie was able to work me in same day...love that! After a "bad" haircut in California, my style needed some work. Blondie dove right in and made my hair perfect again. She has very good experience and it shows in the questions she asks and the methods she uses to work with hair. Her attention to detail was wonderful and my haircut was exceptional. read more

I can only speak about my stylist. I've know Lacie since I was a child and she's a great person with a genuine kindness about her. I've also been impressed with her willingness to tolerate my ambivalence yet picky attitude about my hair. I often show to an appointment with no idea what I want from her and she patiently helps me figure it out. I've never been disappointed with the final result. Everyone else in the salon appears to love their job and customers always seem happy around me. read more

I went to Mary (the owner) for a fill and pedicure. She did an amazing job on both! she fixed what the last nail salon had done to my nails and made them beautiful again. Mary gave me a beautiful black glitter set with bright red tips on the underside of my nails, so cute! I get compliments on my nails daily. Not only did my nails look absolutely perfect when I left, but my nails still look great a week later....and I have been painting and remodeling my house! The pedicure was so relaxing and my little piggies have never looked so good! A friend came with me and saw Lacie for a manicure and her nails look fantastic! Lacie did a super cute pink fading to orange polish on my friend and educated her on how she can care for her dry cuticles. I highly recommend both Mary and Lacie, my friend and I are going to make this our new nail place! read more

I went to Alter Ego and saw Rida for my first ever Brazilian. Rida was amazing, she made me feel very comfortable and was very professional. The salon was clean and very busy. Rida's room was sparkling with soothing music and a fountain in the corner. Very fairly priced as well and an easy to find location with good parking. Will be highly recommending this place to others and I will be going back for sure. read more

My friend and I decided to go get our nails done for a little girls day. The original place we were going to go to was closed, and this salon happened to be right next door basically. So my friend suggested we stop in there. At the time, there were no manicurists in the building so one of the hair stylists called Sue to see if she could come in. I had not looked up any reviews and now I'm really wishing I had. I went first, and I wanted ombré nails. She said she could do it. She started gluing the tips on and I'm not sure what kind of glue she was using, because I've never had this problem before, but they just would not stick. She used French tips for the ombré which seemed strange to me but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. When she applied the acrylic, it was super thick and not even. When she filed, she only filed with an actual nail file. She didn't use any of the machines, and as a result caused me to bleed. Then she proceeds to tell me this happens all the time (it's never happened to me) and is literally prepared with liquid bandaids and neosporin in her kit. She talked down on the "Asian" nail places or so she called them. She told me my nails couldn't look like the picture I showed her because my nail beds are small. She also warned me that because my nails are short they will probably fall off soon. Sure enough, I paid 50 dollars for the nails to look TERRIBLE. I went to another place to have them salvage what they could, and even though they tried their hardest, they all fell off within the week. I went to the place I tried to get them fixed at and got a full set redone and they are ombré and they are perfect! I am never going back there and I wish I could get my money back. read more

I went to Courtney to get my lashes done. I recently moved back to the area and was hoping to find someone close and I happened to see a groupon for a full set and two week fill. As Courtney started on my lashes she left the room for 10-15 minutes to schedule someone else. She spent about 45 minutes on my full set and was like "ok you're done-they look cute" It literally looked like she ripped off the legs of a spider, put some glue on them and threw them at my eyes. They were sparse except for the corner of my eye where she randomly decided to put a bundle (which I specifically told her that I did not want any bundles) that was so painful I had to rip it out and now have a bald spot. I was honestly in shock and didn't want to be rude and at this point I needed to head into work. I was horrified. I looked at them closer and more than half of my lashes were still sticking out! I had to put mascara on and I was mortified. I sent her a message about my concerns and at first I wanted her to fix it, but the more I looked at them I was afraid that they would turn out worse. I kindly asked her to at least give me a refund for the 2 week fill as I would not use it and she informed me that she doesn't do refunds. She didn't apologize or have any interest in fixing the dumpster fire now on my face. I decided to make the drive to my regular lash lady...as I have learned it is worth it to make the commute to have someone that does wonderful work. She was unable to fix my sad set and said that Courtney didn't even bother gluing the lashes on the lash but instead just took a bunch of glue and cemented multiple lashes together. She had to remove my lashes and put on an entire new set. They look great now. This entire loss and awful experience would have been better spent if I had asked Courtney to punch me in the tits for 45 minutes! read more

Do not go to Tina Ramsdell (Blondie) for hair appointments. She cuts your hair short and jagged (when not asked) & I asked her to make me blonde and she put more brown in my hair and put lines of blonde in my hair it's not blended nicely at all. It looks like lines. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did what she wanted not what I wanted. DO NOT GO TO HER SHES TERRIBLE. take it from me. I have been going to Alter Ego Salon now for almost four years. This is a great salon for hair, skin and nails. They are amazing at every category of beauty! Stephanie Bush is absolutely amazing at coloring and cutting. I used to live in Gresham but now live in WIlsonville and make the 45min trip just to get my hair done by her. I have gone to many salons and colorists before and never have received this exceptionally great service. I would highly recommend Stephanie Bush for any color or cut. I typically go to the same stylist but recently she has been very hard to schedule with so I had to try something new. I called on either Thursday or Friday of last week to see if they had any available appointments on Monday. The receptionist said she would talk with the stylists and see if anyone had any availability. I got a call back from Alicia, my new stylist, about 10 mins later offering me an appointment on Monday. I was so happy because most salons are not open Monday. I went in for my appointment today and was greeted right away. The salon was clean and free of clutter I was taken back to the chair about 5 mins later (I was a little early). Alicia had great conversation and was fun and personable. She was very knowledgable and made sure to ask me all the right questions. I didn't even have to tell her what to do because she was able to follow my past stylists pattern. My blonde looks amazing and my hair is smoother than ever! She spent a very decent amount of time styling my hair the way she knew I liked it. Also, during the shampoo she massaged my head and neck!!! Super bonus. Prices were absolutely fair. And I will definitely be going back. read more
