My sister, my mom, and I decided to check this place out after reading some reviews. It seemed to be more local focused and that although it wasn't new, it was still charming and that was enough for us. We went in and it was pretty much what we had anticipated. It was a late 90s restaurant still trying to stay afloat, but still had great food. WE. WERE. WRONG. 1. the sewage had overflown the night before and so the entire parking lot and breezeway area of the place smelled like poop. initially we didn't know why it smelled so bad BUT OUR WAITRESS WAS SURE TO TELL US. 2. which brings me to two, our waitress could NOT have been more disinterested in us. I will say, she was attentive, but while seeming very annoyed that she had to take care of us. 3. I went to the restroom the same time as our waitress and SHE DIDNT WASH HER HANDS. 4. My mom ordered decaf and my sister ordered coffee. When the waitress came back to refill she gave my mom coffee and my sister decaf. My mom has high blood pressure, and that's why she orders decaf. That's like giving sugar to a diabetic when they ask for something sugar free. Incredibly dangerous, thoughtless, and adds to the theme of this meal. not caring. So, to reiterate before I even discuss our food, our waitress talked to us about sewage while we were eating, didn't wash her hands in the bathroom, gave us the wrong drinks, and she was complaining about other customers. 5. The food was inedible. There's a different between being greasy and being straight oil. My mom didn't eat most of her food because the only taste it has was oil. 6. ZERO healthy/ fresh options. What the heck, you're by the beach. AT LEAST offer a fruit cup. If I could give this place a negative review I would, but instead it gets one star and a call to the health department! read more

This occurred because in a prior life from 1999-2001 I literally ate breakfast here every morning. This is a testament to how long this place has been in operation. However, as good as they once were, just viewing their name has become a dissight for they have gone severely downhill since the glory days of my youth. Sunrise Diner in Cocoa Beach has joined the list of once-great restaurants that have given up. Literally. Allie is my server and is one of the most honest pro's out there. You know you can trust your server when they tell you what to avoid. In this case, Allie told me not to order the biscuit. With that in mind, I did ask for some Moussaka and some Corned Beef Hash, eggs and potatoes. Looking around and taking a few pictures, I was saddened by how empty the joint had become. What was once a thriving, humming local hot spot had become a barren, dried-up desert void of all but a few stalwarts or the uninitiated. Allie soon returned with my grub and after grabbing some shots of that, prepared to get to work. First up was the Moussaka. I ask that you take a gander at the picture of said dish. It looked horrid. It tasted horrid. It was horrid. I don't know how you screw up a dish as simple and standard as this, but screw it up someone did. The sauce was just nasty. Maybe too much sugar or not enough herbs. I'm not sure, but I am sure it didn't sit well on my palate. Moving on to the Corned Beef Hash, eggs and potatoes. While this wasn't nearly as bad as the Moussaka, or what passed as such here, it wasn't anything to text Mom about. The eggs were cooked to order and tasty. The Beef Hash, while obviously out of a food service industrial-sized can, was executed properly and the potatoes were freshly sliced. If I had only ordered the Moussaka, this would have been a 1-star or maybe even a Swill Alert. This was the saving grace and it was slightly below average. That should tell you all you need to know about how far down this place has sunk. The Big Boy says, "There is much better Moussaka and eggs within 3 miles of this place. Go there. Made a quick detour to Sunrise diner. As a matter a fact, we were trying to find a different one and bumped into this place with our rental car. Walking in you get that diner feel, and see that obviously this is a place locals go to, so you know it's going to be good. The servers are helpful in letting you know what to get if you're stuck, for the grits our server let us know that the locals have it with; pepper, butter, and put it over the egg. I tried it and was hooked! The catfish is really really good, fresh, and the breading doesn't take away from the filet. The biscuits though good, didn't quite meet up to my expectations. Overall a great little breakfast (served all day!) spot to have a taste of local cuisine. read more

Have passed this place numerous times when here visiting family. My parents brought me in and glad they did. Huge portion of calamari getting delivered to a table when I walked in, but unfortunately had just sold out. She recommended the fried oysters which were a solid choice. Dad had a salmon filet and I went with the gyro which was huge. Menu is way more than you expect from taking a look from the outside. I saw a plate of fried grouper fingers pass by as well...looked great. Big portions and no complaints. Will go back! I dunno...I was gonna try to initiate a new policy in which I DON'T peep Yelp before going into a restaurant...ya know, so I can formulate my own opinion. After a very dismal morning of (not) surfing 0-1' waves I decided to grab my usual lunch in Cocoa Beach. Heading in the direction of LongDoggers, the cheapness in me saw the $6.99 burger & fries sign (or whatever the low price was) out of my peripheral vision. Could it be time for a deviation from the usual beach bar, fish sandwich and beer? Against my better judgement, I fired up Yelp on my phone in the parking lot. First review I saw was from the amazing Todd D who sorta slammed the place, but whatever. I trust his opinion (having known him by way of reviews for over 43 seconds) but there were also some downright favorable reviews that offset his statements. And I'm pretty broke this week so I said, "Why not"? Well, first off...this place is NOT your typical Cocoa Beach establishment. It's pretty dark, and I will be damned if I saw one faded picture of someone surfing or a board hanging from the ceiling. BUT, if you're in the mood for something completely different, I'd give it a shot. (and by different I mean its more your typical American diner than a beach bar) My gyro was pretty awesome and yes, the price was good. Not as cheap as that burger special, but still. I believe I heard my waitress mutter something under her breath like, "this place is a f*cking joke" as she walked behind me. But damn it, in my heart I maintain that she said it with love in her heart. PS: parking was ample. read more

I finally stopped by the sunrise dinner in Cocoa Beach after passing it for two year. I went into the restaurant and said at the counter. The stools at the counter were extremely wobbly, and one was even broken and had a sack over the top of it. I ordered the chicken, fried chicken grits and a biscuit. After a mild wait, I was serve my dish. The eggs were served as I ordered but the chicken fried chicken looked more like chicken fried steak and prepared much the same way that is commercially, breaded and frozen. I received toast instead of a biscuit, and the gravy was obviously mass-produced. The service, like most of these cafés was excellent, but the appearance, the sturdiness of the stools and, the preparation of the commercial breakfast was not to my liking. read more

We waited at the door to be sat and waited another 10 minutes at the table for the server to take our drink order. It's still a great diner. The best breakfast in town for the best price. It's a compact space with old school diner charm. The wait staff seem like they've been there forever and they get the job done. The food quality is consistent, food delivered timely, tables turned quickly and prices are reasonable. Make sure you check out their specials on the board. We like it here. We sit in a booth, get our orders on and enjoy. While breakfasts are the best, I enjoy lunches here as well. My faves for breakfast are: Eggs, pancakes, sausage, hash browns, and omelets. My mom had pork chops and eggs and gave it two thumbs-up. Interesting note: they pass on the service charge for using credit cards to the customer now. It's pretty tacky. I suggest just raising some of the food prices slightly to cover the service charge or dictate a cash only policy. We'll only be paying in cash going forward. read more

A group of five all had mostly different things the best I can is you could eat it, very very average. Hubby and I stopped in for a late lunch and to kill some time before checking in to a local resort. Greeted by a friendly waitress who advised we could sit where we wanted. Specials were hand-written on board at the back, so we both chose the French Onion soup to start. I had coffee with the Florida Blue Crab Cake sandwich, and hubby ordered a bacon burger. Both came with potato chips. Soup arrived too hot to eat so we both waited for it to cool, and it was served with salad croutons instead of the usual bread. Not sure it was fresh as it tasted a little "off." My crab cake was served on a good soft roll, and was tasty. My hubby's burger was on the same style bun, and he said you can't really screw up a burger. Overall the food was adequate, service good and location convenient with good prices. read more

This place used to be my favorite; however, that is not the case anymore. I have 3 complaints. First, what happened to the young man who always wore tie dyed shirts and made the best eggs benedict? The food does not taste the same, the eggs are undercooked, and it takes way too long. This is a diner, not a 5-star restaurant. Second, my husband went into the restroom to find cocaine on the toilet paper dispenser. Absolutely disgusting and classless. Third, we went in for dinner and the owner looked like he was on drugs and very acting weird. It made us very uncomfortable. Sadly, we will not be back in again. The Menu has something for everyone plus the specials are out of this world. A mouth watering breakfast menu is available all day. A great place for breakfast This restaurant is a small stand-alone building located on the north side of SR 520 just to the west of A1A. parking consists of about 30 spots located mostly on the east and south side of the location although people could park on all sides of the restaurant if all the lined spaces were in use. The building is not large and it seems busy enough that they have a sign-up for the waitlist. We arrived for breakfast and signed up. They are efficient and we were called within minutes of signing up. The tables seem to be all booths, a mix of 2 and 4 people. It is a well-established and older decor. The waitress was very quick to take our orders. I tried the french toast and bacon. The food came out quickly and was delicious. All of the staff was very friendly. The cost was very reasonable. You pay at the counter by the entrance and so this area seems to get a little congested with people signing up, entering, paying, and departing. They did a great job of getting people in and out in an efficient and quick manner. I would highly recommend this to anybody wanting a good meal in the area. Enjoy. read more

Exactly what you expect in a classic diner. Good food and nice people. My wife had eaten a few times with her girlfriend and told me how good it was. I can say without hesitation she was right. I had eggs and crispy hash browns. Most places don't ever get hash browns right in my opinion. Theirs were crispy and flavorful. My wife had an enormous omelette that came with a side pancake. Both of which were delicious. We also shared a biscuit and gravy. Usually there is never enough gravy for the biscuits. That was not the case at Sunrise diner, there was so much gravy you had to dig into find the biscuits. Yum. read more
