The Sunrise Deli should really be 4.25 stars. It's not 5 star quality, but more than 4 to me. My friend just had a baby and we thought it would be nice to have some lunch at their house while meeting our new, tiny friend. They recommended we stop at the Sunrise Deli. It was kinda funny that you could tell the restaurant used to be a taco shop of some sort. You could tell where the drive through was. Apparently there are like 19 taco shops within 4 blocks of this place, so they decided to switch it up. Good move, cause the food is tasty. We ordered a chef salad, a french dip (which they forgot the dip part and we had to go back. Not a huge bummer because we were right up the street, but still not awesome), a tuna melt, and another sammich that I can't remember now. All the food was a good quality. The ingredients were fresh and the dishes were flavorful. It took a little bit of time to get the food, but the girl at the counter was very friendly and explained everything was made fresh. I saw this place the other night, as i was passing by and told my wife i wanted to try it out. You don't see many deli's anymore, but this is much more than that. Its more of a take out/ restaurant with deli food and regular food. Very clean, but not alot of parking, which I didn't mind since i was taking it to go!! The young woman greeted me as i looked at the menu. There were so many good things to choose from, I almost didnt order my sandwich. Lol. I ordered the turkey on wheat toasted with fries and a drink. It was less than $10 They made it prettying fast. I drove back to work and ate my lunch. They use dijon mustard, which i am not a fan of. But it did taste good. Next time i will ask for regular mustard. Food was really good everything looked fresh. I am definitely going back To try the pastrami, and there chili fries. I've grown up in this area so I know this place pretty well. They have such a wide variety to choose from! Breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can find something to eat here. Recently I've heard the rumors about new management/ownership and this place is run by new people. I came here very recently and I'm glad to say that the quality of the food has not gone down since that change! So about the food: great options. I've tried a few items for breakfast, such as the pancakes with eggs and bacon, as well as French toast, and their breakfast burritos. All very yummy! The burgers will definitely fill you up; they're pretty big portioned. I suggest the avocado cheeseburger! And I love the way they serve it to you, open faced so you can take out what you don't like (lettuce, tomato, onion).. Also, they serve hot dogs, salads, pasta, and even their spin on a Greek gyro! Oh and the salads are HUGE. Of course, this is a deli so they gotta have sandwiches right? I've tried the Turkey and Swiss, Pastrami and Swiss, and my favorite is the all veggie sandwich. It's the #19 and it comes with lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, alfalfa sprouts and avocado. I recommend you guys to try it! They give you different options on the bread you'd like (sourdough, wheat, etc.) and how you'd like it (grilled, toasted, or cold). So many side order options too! You can choose French fries, fruit, pasta salad, coleslaw, or even macaroni salad if you'd like. Since the new ownership, I'm not sure if they still have the different soups of the day. But if they still do, the chicken tortilla soup which is there daily is great, as well as the cream of broccoli soup which I believe they used to serve on Wednesdays. Overall, if you're in Casa de Oro, you should definitely stop by here for a quick lunch. The place is pretty small, but I noticed a little bit of remodeling inside since the new ownership. Oh one of my old favorites, why did you think it was ok to switch ownership without my permission? Ever since the change of ownership everything lacks quality and taste. It especially lacks in quantity which is a triple bummer. When I realized they switched I HAD to see if anything was changed. When walking in it looked like they updated the whole menu. I felt a little sad since I missed their old tacky, hand written, absolutely no sort of order menu. Another thing I missed was being greeted by the older gentleman who has always worked that counter. I figured I would look past it and order my favorite, the Tuna Sandwich. No bueno! Not as great as I remember and there was barely any on the sandwich. I mean c'mon! Tuna is cheap people! Don't be stingy. I also did not like the fries. They were a little soggy and cold. The rest of the party I was wish was not satisfied. They all commented that it was as if the love had left the food. I will never come back here again. My wife got an avocado burger and the bun fell apart as if it'd been previously frozen and reheated. One of the best sandwich places in San Diego. I've been here a handful of times because it's right across our church. They have a huge menu, but I've usually stuck with my go-to club sandwich with fries. My wife and I got exactly that with a drink, which comes with free refills. We get there after 25 minutes and no one greets us so we wait a few minutes and finally the girl at the counter acknowledged us. Ok, fine...the inside was busy so we understood. 15 minutes pass so we go back to the counter and ask about our food. Still not ready. We notice a couple order at the counter and they get their food. Anyway, about 10 minutes later we notice a lady go to the counter and demand a supervisor because the wait time for her, us and another couple was unacceptable at this point. I live in the area and have passed by many times, but today I decided to stop and check it out. I want to tell you that Jesus greeted me like a long-lost friend and helped me with options on the menu. I decided to eat in since the place was immaculate and the afternoon sun was shining through spotless windows. I just ordered a cheese burger, but it was great. Gabriel, the cook, made it to perfection with everything fresh and the fries done golden. It was served on a glass plate with a clean knife and fork on napkins and fresh condiments. I've been going to Sunrise Deli for about 9 years now. My entire family has gone faithfully ever since our first visit. Everyone who knows us, knows the Deli!!! Their fast quality food and legit prices have not changed throughout the years, which is a big plus! I personally believe they have the BEST shakes I have ever had. However, the customer service is really not fantastic. We seem to try this place once a year, forgetting how awful the food an service is. I ordered a Philly cheese steak, one of the worst cheeshsteaks I have ever had. My steak sandwich was good, good meat to bun ratio, the Bread! Wow, soft, warm, crispy so good, the steak itself was juicy, I like my a little more rare but oh well.
