I've been wanting to try this place for a while but had to wait until I had a day off work. It did not disappoint! Super cute little shop with local pics of old San Diego on the walls! The staff were all friendly and the kind lady working the register gave us recommendations as it was our first time here. I got the El Fuego and my boyfriend the Godfather. The chipotle mayo was flavorful and went very well with the chicken. The sourdough bread was soft and delicious with the fresh meats. I definitely want to come back but unfortunately the hours are only Monday to Friday 8:00 - 4:00 pm so I can't stop by unless I have a day off work. read more

Worked provided lunch from Maya's Deli. I had the Albacore Tuna Salad. The salad has five ingredients: Lettuce (iceberg/Romaine), tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and tuna. Of course a choice of dressing too. I chose bleu cheese. They fill the plastic conatiner full of lettuce. In the corner is this little ice cream scoop sized ball of tuna. The lettuce-to-tuna ratio is appalling. The scoop of tuna was barely as big as the dressing container. It was a decent salad, albeit a bit lacking. This salad could have really benefitted from some cheese. Pepperoncinis would go a long way too. The tuna sandwich includes Swiss cheese and avocado, so...maybe, Maya's? The tuna was tasty and fresh. The lettuce was crisp. The bleu cheese dressing was decent. It lacked bleu cheese chunks in it. Maya's offers superb sandwiches. Get a sandwich for sure. Tuna salad? Not so much. read more

I really like this place. It's clean and friendly . I ordered the chicken salad with bacon on white bread . Chicken salad was yummy and fresh. Bacon was crispy...im gonna get Swiss next time. Only complaint is how light the amount of chicken salad and one piece of bacon ....needs more filling and bacon. Mac salad was excellent . Chili was just ok ....it comes with onions so I could not eat it .Potato Bacon soup was good ...id get again. When I come back I'll pay extra for more bacon and chicken salad. The French Dip sandwich is a sandwich that sounds simple but is easy to mess up. If that Au Jus is wrong, you just have roast beef and dry bread. It's perfect here, not too salty, not watery either, good enough to be sipping broth (go ahead and do it, you're not eating at a suit and tie place in Del Mar.) Service there was just horrible. Came in today (June 9th) and ordered lunch and ended up having to wait 45 minutes despite being the first ones there and other people coming in after us and getting their food before us. Turns out they gave my food to someone else, after realizing their mistake they gave me a half ass apology and then made me wait another 20 minutes to get my food. Only to realize after leaving that they messed up my food, forgetting to put peanut butter on my acai bowl, not to mention that I had to pay an extra dollar to have peanut butter on it in the first place. But for my first time coming into the restaurant it would definitely be my last as there are other better deli shops near by and no way in hell am I waiting 45 minutes for a peanut butter sandwich and a acai bowl that I myself could've done in 15 minutes, not to mention how overpriced that place was. It has been a while but i have finally returned back to Mayas Deli! If you want a wonderful Godfather or a wonderful BLT then look no further than Maya's deli in El Cajon! I know we are going through rough times but Mayas Deli sandwiches brings back the feeling of normalcy! The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable especially with such a large menu! Only draw back is the hours.. sometimes we are in the mood for a sandwich from Maya's after 4pm or on the weekend!!
