I have been going to Sunnyvale Smog Center over the past 10 years with several different vehicles. They have always been able to schedule quickly on short notice. The service is usually completed in about 1/2 hour while I wait, the completed certificate is transmitted immediately to DMV and then all I have to do is go online with DMV and complete the registration renewal process and pay the reg fee. I've never gotten a smog check before, but the owner was really helpful and explained the process to me, including what to do afterwards with the DMV. I went again. He did more than a SMOG. eg. He inflated tire pressure. I note some people complain about being charged more for having a car older than 2000. Of course, pre 2000 car has to go on a dynamo - less modern and cost more. I had a 1999 and was paying more. Some reviewers don't understand cars, and nuances but only focus on price. At the end, you get what you pay for. We also need to support small biz. Environment is terrible lately. This place is not marketed as a discount place. So you can get your work done with quality, and without any pressure and much fuss. With the discount place on Evelyn st, you need to go online and make an appointment - show up on time to save few dollars - I went one such place on Evelyn and he was nasty after getting his money. read more

Went in on a Thursday morning, about 10AM. No one else in line. The guy jumped on it right away. Service was fast and friendly. Waited in a chair in the shade of the other bay. The tech wore a mask and gloves. All done in about 30 minutes. Not the cheapest (the car is an '90 Miata), but that wasn't what I was looking for. I went at 1pm today, and there was no wait. The total with the Back to School discount below was $40 ($29.75 test +8.25 certificate fee +2.00 ETF) and they are on DMV's approved list of smog test centers. That's pretty BS, considering neighboring smog test vendors don't require a print out coupon for lower prices (I've never paid more than $40 before)! Even without an appointment or anything, I was able to get the smog check done in 15 mins and bounce out of the place in 25 mins. Everything was explained and the person helping me out was courteous and acknowledged the coupon. I got a receipt for the test done and was able to pay by credit card.
