I like the vibe here very chil it's like being in small neighborhood water whole. It was cool listening to grass root tunes with friends enjoying beers. Redhook really rocks !!

The five stars isn't for the drinks, though the dark and stormy is decent. Drinks are alcohol heavy and have no finesse, but that's not what Sunny's is about. The New York Times described Sunny's as a bar on the edge of the world. And it felt like that. Dimly lit, dusty vintage decor, never more than three or four patrons at a time, Sunny's sits in a remote part of Red Hook, Brooklyn. An old rusted truck flying both an American flag and a pride flag greet you outside. I felt like I was in a novel. I felt like Hemingway could walk in at any time. The old school feel is not something easily replicated. Form what I understand, their evening music program is legendary. No food. Cash only. ATM on site. Again, you're not coming here for a craft cocktail program. You're coming here for a VIBE.

Had a farewell for a friend & Sunny's was the spot. We arrived around 2 on a Friday & not surprisingly they were quiet. Interesting layout-between outside seating in front and back as well dimly lit bar area and more space in the back with a piano. We sat outside I n the back and enjoyed the open & sun lit with cover space. Great vibe and atmosphere! Cash only! (But they do have an ATM on-site) A decent list of draft beers, wine and cocktails and looks like they have seasonal drink specials.. Enjoyed my draft Bronx Ale and Allagash White. Others in the party had Guinness, Wine, Gin Seltzer as well Whisky shots. We found out the party next to us brought Subs over from Delfontes & were enjoying them with some beer. So ok to bring outside food in? Our bartender was as helpful and kind as can be & she took great care of us! By the time we left around 6, they were busy with mostly a younger crowd. Classic bar, Local flavor and Local favorite and I read somewhere they've been open since the 1890s. Don't miss this Red Hook gem!

Saturday night drinks for two. A must-stop if you're in the hood. A friend told me about how this saloon was supposed to shut down but locals kept it alive with their donations. It's been around since the 1890s and this act shows how strong of a community Red Hook is. It has a lot of character and good service. We got here "early" around 7pm and the bar was fairly empty but started filling up closer to 9pm. They do live music on certain nights and would come back to experience it another time. There is a back outdoor area for those who need fresh air - definitely coming back for summer! And another room towards the back. The bar is filled with more of the neighborhood people which is always a warm feeling especially on a cold night.

My knees go weak at the sight of an aquatic themed dive bar! I don't know if it's my Seattlelite years or the years in Hamburg, Germany but I can't resist them. Sunny's, baby, you got it goin' on! After the necessary wait for Brooklyn Crab, Sunny's was the must see. Only around the corner from the Brooklyn Crab. We were more than happy to sit in air conditioning and ordering frosty beverages. The waitress looked like she had been there awhile. I love a seasoned bartender. There's a patio here that was full of millennials (you can't control everything). There was also an intimate back room with a piano and a small stage. I could already see some late nights listening to music and really getting the full flavor of Sunny's. The front of the bar has an old sixties feel to it. There are records playing and cute little intimate booths. I was at home. Can't wait for another escape from the hustle and bustle of NY to this aquatic oasis.

Overall: This is my favorite kind of bar - Divey, humble, charming, and of course, cheap as hell. The good vibes flow at Sunny's! The good: You'd walk right by it with the nondescript appearance and entry, but as soon as you walk in your hit with a heavy dose of authenticity. Christmas lights, antique signs, knick-knacks, and figurines line the walls. The place is dimly lit and the music is good. In fact, there was a live Irish band wrapping up when we walked it. The beers are cheap and they even sell bags of potato chips on the side (gimme those Cheezits). The not-so-good: Cash only, and their hot cider at the time was $12 if I remember correctly. What a price! Otherwise, the place is dope. Atmosphere: 10/10 Service: 9/10

I've been slowing down on the bar circuit, but made a stop at Sunny's before hitting Hometown BBQ on a rainy winter evening. This is my kind of bar! There's a lot of character in this establishment, including the friendly lady bartender who was singing along to Billie Holiday and slanging us some $6 beer and shot specials. I came back after dinner when it was a bit busier and they had some live music in the back. If I wasn't experiencing an oncoming food coma, I may have stuck around longer!

You only need 1-2 to feel relaxed. :) The beer prices are great too. The vibe here is great, with a lot of seating options and card + board games to keep you occupied. Dog friendly as well! I was able to get a bowl of water for my little one. Nice views of the water too if you prefer to sit outside. I like how it is bring your own food. I saw a small group having a little birthday party and they had pizza and a cake that they brought. I went to the Food Bazaar grocery a block or two away and got a sandwich from their deli to bring to the brewery. Next door is a cidery, I think a different owner. Outrageously expensive ($17 for a small glass of cider? lol). Stick to strong rope! They do have a cider or two on their menu normally. 2 minutes away is Steve's Key Lime Pie - recommend if you like frozen key lime pies on a stick dipped in chocolate ;)

Strong Rope Brewery was a fantastic find…read more We stumbled in on a cold December afternoon and immediately loved the vibe. Sitting right on the water, this place clearly shines year-round, but it is easy to imagine how great it would be in warmer weather posted up outside by the river. Seating is well thought out, a mix of outdoor and indoor picnic tables along with traditional tables and chairs, so it works for everyone. If it had been warmer, we definitely would have been outside. Inside, the decor is playful and welcoming, with quirky wall art, a great keg wall, and clear views into the working brewery. The beer lineup was solid across the board. I had their Pubkin beer, which was a pleasant surprise, and my wife enjoyed a hot toddy that hit perfectly on a cold day. We stayed for a couple of drinks before heading to a nearby reservation, and it was the perfect afternoon break between distillery hopping. Prices were very reasonable, and the biereria taco truck outside made grabbing food easy without breaking the flow. Friendly for both locals and visitors alike. If you are in this part of town, it is absolutely worth the stop.

When we walked in, we got the warmest welcome from her. Her name is Debbie. I have a 10yrs old also and she immediately started having a conversation with her. When she sat us in the dinning room, she let us know there were 2 servers for the night with a 1 bus boy. She mentioned them by name and I loved that. We were attended to by Keith. He was such a gem. He recommended so really great choices for us. This is what we had. For drinks, my husband and my son had the Red Hook which they loved. I don't drink so I had the Captain Jack Mocktail. Appetizers- Seafood Tower and Rhode Island Calamari. OMG the calamari is a must try. It has a little kick but you will thank me later. I little heat never hurt nobody. Dinner- we all shared the Gala Apple Salad, Porter House, Linguini and Clams, Lundy's Potatoes, and Mac and Cheese. Dessert- The Butterscotch Sundae my daughter hogged, and the Lundy's Huckleberry Pie. Now let me tell you. I do not eat huckleberry pie, but that one, I could not believe how tasty. The crust was hard and sweet and the filling had the right flavor. Not too sweet or tart. All throughout dinner my husband and my son kept saying how great the food was. It was truly amazing and the service was great, with only 3 working and staying attentive to several tables. I would definitely come back. Maybe for a girls night next time.

If you haven't been to Lundy Brothers yet, stop what you're doing and reevaluate your life choices…read more This place is ICONIC--Brooklyn royalty. The space is so amazing it feels like someone crossed a historic landmark with a movie set and said, "Yeah, make it bigger." The bar? HUGE. A beautiful behemoth. It's the kind of bar you walk up to and instantly feel like you should order something classy just because the bar itself demands respect. You don't sip here--you pose. Live music had the whole place vibing like it was Brooklyn's own little Mardi Gras. Menu? Straight-up banger after banger. I kept reading items like I was scanning a treasure map. Drinks? Too good. Dangerous-good. "I should slow down but I won't" good. Now the oysters... Listen. Freshest in the five boroughs. FRESHEST. Like they practically filled out a change-of-address form from the ocean to your plate. But the true heavyweight champion of this place? Chef Steve Mannino. A culinary force. A flavor wizard. A gastronomic gladiator. The man cooks like he's trying to win a title belt every night. If Brooklyn had a Mount Rushmore of chefs, he'd already be carved in granite, smiling with a shucker in his hand. Service was on point, hospitality turned up to 11, and the whole vibe made us feel like VIPs with zero business being VIPs. If you want a meal that slaps, sings, sparkles, and maybe even changes your mood for the week, Lundy Brothers is the move. Over-the-top amazing. Already planning my return like it's a holiday.

Cozy, old-school Italian vibes, staff speaking Italian like they're judging you lovingly, and Negronis that'll make you rethink every bad decision you've ever made at a bar. No leftovers. Bar Mario isn't trying to be trendy. It's just confident, timeless, and quietly excellent. It's not a huge restaurant (so I would make a reservation): a few 2- and 4-seat high tops, maybe 6 or 7 tables, and a bar with about 10 seats. But the environment is warm and cozy, with low lighting and music loud enough to enjoy, soft enough to have conversations with your party, the bartender, or whoever else. The servers are all excellent. Very charming and friendly. They check in often, but not in an intrusive way. I've also seen the owner walking around, greeting customers, and talking with his staff. He's always around, and he's a friendly presence. There's such a great neighborhood vibe here - there are definitely some regulars here, and it helps create a homey atmosphere. The food here is outstanding. I have not had a bad dish here. The Caesar salad is actually made with several long stalks of romaine, so it stays crisp. The meatballs come with polenta around the plate, and it is fantastic. I've also had the hangover spaghetti (excellent) and the lasagna (amazing). Their calamari also has a few shrimp and (I think) some bay scallops, so that's a great addition. And their cocktails are outstanding - potent but flavorful. I don't get a chance to go to Red Hook much, but when I do, I definitely want to stop here. It's on the "main road" of Red Hook, and there are definitely some cute shops and coffee places around, and of course, there's Ikea not too far. This restaurant, though, deserves your business.
