Super kitschy dive bar which is just the type of place I enjoy to have a few brews. Owned by the same people who brought us Rocka Rolla and it shows. Cool old school beer memorabilia on the walls, decent prices, and a terrific back yard area which is a nice sized place. It's a small dive bar. No table space to sit comfortably. Uncomfortable bathrooms down a steep stairway in a filthy dingy basement. Pleasant bartender. It's gentrified and homogeneous, not our vibe. This bar is freaking awesome!! I pretty much only frequent dive bars and this has every element of what I expect a great dive bar to be. The owners of this place are the same owners of my favorite rock dive bar, Rocka Rolla, so I knew this was going to be a good spot. Came here for happy hour a couple of weeks ago after having lunch nearby. It was really nice out that day and they have outdoor and backyard seating so that was a pleasure. My friends and I were met with very friendly bartenders who knew how to mix drinks! They have about 3 premixed, bottled drinks that look delicious. Any place that has a Dark and Stormy on their cocktail menu is a-okay in my book. It was yummy, strong, and in a huge cup! Had a couple of Gin and Tonics after that. The female bartender was terrific. They have bags of chips and tacos. Didn't have any but it's nice that they have some munchie options. There are two booths when you come in and a good amount of bar seating. Some tables and chairs before you head out to the backyard and tons of seating on picnic benches out there. The decor is totally random, but I love it. They predominantly play R&B and hip-hop but the jukebox selection is very diverse. A dollar gets you 2 song plays. Next to the jukebox is the EXTREMELY narrow staircase down to the bathrooms. Be careful doing down there when you're tipsy and hold on! The best part was when it hit 7 PM and the male bartender turned the music off and shouted, "Everyone, we're going to watch Jeopardy now!" Loved it! Everyone was playing along and having a good time. This spot is one of very few dive bars in the area with reasonable prices under same management as Rocka Rolla and Skinny Dennis believe it or not. They had 24 oz bud drafts for $6. I came early on a weekday evening and it was actually fairly busy even then. They also seem to allow small dogs too. They have a CD Jukebox but had mostly rare albums I never heard of. Mostly spanish and rap music played in the background, which I don't really care for but to each their own. There is also a back outdoor patio. In fact, I noticed a few folks walk in and went straight to the back without even ordering a drink, and bartender didn't seem to mind. Very laid back vibe where it seems most patrons knew each other, but I still felt welcomed. I'd come back here if ever in the area again. read more

Draft list here has a decent selection and generally between $7-9 for a pint. There's also a good amount of cocktail specials but no food to speak of (don't think they mind people bringing any in). For an added bonus, they do allow dogs inside, as well as in the patio area. Bartender here is really nice and they do accept credit cards. I mocked the Do Or Dine that previously occupied this space. The similar name leads me to believe these are the same owners who shifted the space to a bar concept. This is still an achingly precious concept full of neighborhood hipsters. But I suppose I give bars more leeway so if this is kind of faux dive you are looking for then Do Or Dive delivers. The space is mostly full of bar seating but there is some table seating as well. People all check you out as you enter but it seems like a move out of vanity more than territorial protectiveness. This ain't no biker bar. I think you can tell a lot from the character of the staff and the state of the restroom at places like this. The staff seems friendly and solid. If you are comfortable in the space I think the staff won't change your mind. The restroom is carefully crafted scene of neglect. Dirty, spare, covered with tags and stickers. This isn't the bathroom of a restaurant where you should order food but you might be inspired by it to imagine all kinds of violent and nihilist acts while you sip a beer. So I am going to grade on a curve and give this a solid star rating. There are a number of spots to get a drink in the neighborhood each with a different feel. If this is your kind of scene I think you know it and will be satisfied. read more

Really just not a great scene. Pre-covid, it was so busy and popular that it was impossible to even move around most nights. The drinks are fine and cheap, and service is on the cold side for NYC (not the worst, but not good). The crowd/people push it over the edge, though. I haven't been back since my friend was roofied here a couple years ago. She only had one drink, but got really out of it at the bar and she was so messed up that we had to carry her back to our apartment. Do or Dive is literally the bar to trek to Bed-Stuy for! I made the commute via bike from the Bowery! Quick ride across the Manhattan Bridge and through the Navy Yard and I was at my destination. The bar was exactly what I wanted. The Delicious Dive that my liver drools for! Beer memorabilia, two small booths in the front and a long bar with a corner spot for skeeball. Come to Mama! And what can beat an ice cold beer after a hot summer bike ride!? The bar filled up rather quickly. The word is out in this place. Get here early! The bartenders were also hilarious and knowledgeable. I learned about two toxic drink orders that are popular amongst the booze hounds here. Ring of Fire - a shot of tequila followed by a shot of Bloody Mary and then a baby glass of beer! I bet it lives up to it's name in many ways! The Bear Fight- a Irish Carbomb followed by a Jägerbomb!! "Feels like a bear fight in your belly" quote from the afternoon Sunday bartender! This is a great dive bar (Duhh, Hence the name). The vibe is quite chill. I went lately and found they had a great DJ on Wednesdays who plays 80's House Music and club favorites. The crowd is great: no uptight asses to be found. What else can I say? They got beer. They got liquor. They got beer and shot specials. The staff is professional and courteous. This is the local spot, it's unpretentious, the cocktails are a laff and strong (Bad Dad? Coffee Thing? yes please), and if you value going to a place and having the same (fucking awesome) experience every time, then it's Do or Dive. I live for the retro kitsch decor and the bartenders are so good and kind and really make you feel like a part of the family after a few visits. Shout out to you, Joe, Sarah, and Lina! Best bartenders I've ever met. Beans will card you at the door. Be good to him and he'll be good to you. He's such a sweetheart, but don't be taken aback when he shouts LETS GO LETS GO at 4am sharp, that man takes his job seriously. My friend was roofied here last night. I cannot believe I saw the review about another woman being roofied and still had us go here. Thank god nothing bad happened to her - she was with her husband and unconscious in the cab by midnight. Sadly, I never made my way to Do or Dine, but now it's a cool, aptly named dive bar. The signage out front is hilarious (they just wrote a V over the N). They have decent beers, but also a Pedialyte/vodka drink. It was surprisingly not terrible. It's dog friendly, so you can make some friends! Bar seating and booths by the front. Great bartenders. I love Do or Dive because I can bring my dog (any and every dog of any size are welcome!) and also because their drinks are tasty AF. And they're usually priced really well. Their outside patio is so nice in the warmer months. I specifically love their specialty cocktails (Hot Toddy in the winter/ Irish Coffee in the summer, pls!) The force is strong with the hipster at this place, yet perfectly real people are amidst. The bar tender gave my card away to another customer after charging their tab on my card. The tab was more than twice as much as what I had originally ordered and has caused a nightmare with my debit account and my bank's fraud department. On top of that, they made me put down a second card to pay for the actual items I ordered. This is ridiculous. All I wanted to do was buy two tecate! I had to shut down my debit card since on the following day the patron that took my card proceeded to use it to buy merchandise at other businesses. I blame the bar. This is a catastrophe and I wouldn't recommend or wish this on anyone. For a local business that cares so much about the community, it doesn't even have the decency to APOLOGIZE for what happened and simply reverse their carelessness.
