Tiffany lamps and artfully decrepit wall hangings (like a chipped arrow-shaped wall hanging full of light bulbs) comprise the warm, inviting, and--true to its name--"dive-y" aesthetics. The drinks are large. I ordered a whiskey sour and it came in a goblet that must approach pint sized. The bartender, when I came, is presumably the proprietor and nothing of not friendly and fun. Best of all, the bar is dog friendly. The bartender's French bulldog is known to roam the bar, but patron's dogs in myriad sizes also come to Do or Die to socialize. A new place to drink in the neighborhood and damn it's a great addition. First impressions -- their signage changing from "Do or Dine" (the previous restaurant tenant of the space) to "Do or Dive" with nothing but two pieces of black duct tape or something, was an I-see-what-you-did-there moment. Upon entering and absorbing the interior, it definitely feels like we're in someone's basement from the 80's/90's, which is a huge compliment considering it's done so well and all the random chachkies are hilarious. I'm usually one to go out to cocktail bars more than dive bars, but this is definitely somewhere to kick back, hang out, and make some new friends. I went on a Thursday night, and it was packed. A bar like this was a nice reminder that there are tons of chill af mid-20s to 40s people living in BedStuy. Considering they've only been open for a week and a half, I'm sure the bar is still getting a feel for the level of customers on a typical Thursday, but they had only one bar tender and one bar-back for 50 people. The bartender was definitely experienced and did her job well, but there were mad amounts of people, empties were piling up in places, and it was a bit hard to put in your order. I really can't stand that this place is in Bed Stuy. Bartender lost my card I gave for my tab, probably because he was intoxicated or at least was doing a great job at looking like he was. Crowd is atrocious and its by design of the owners, to put some Williamsburg faux dive in Bed Stuy and attract all the worst gentrifiers you can imagine. No one is especially friendly, drinks aren't very good and they literally could give a shit about their local neighbors. Bring your money to The Corners on Nostrand and Brew on Tompkins and support local business that is sympathetic to the original neighborhood and who also don't lose you debit or credit cards. read more

This was one of my favorite spots during my visit to New York. I was staying close to there and went to 2 of their sister bars last year which I also loved. I honestly didn't even know they were sister bars, but it makes since because at all 3 of them made a very very great impression. Visited this location every day that I was there, different bartenders each time and can't think of a possible complaint. Super good prices (I'm from a way smaller town in Texas which our bars are generally priced for college kids and when I say good prices I mean stupid cheap in an awesome area. Where I was staying was around the corner so I popped in on different shifts. Not a single bad experience, everyone working was awesome and friendly. I feel like 5 stars isn't enough. Absolutely worth your time if your near there. When I came to Brooklyn last year, I went to Skinny Dennis and Rock&Rolla- had great service and staff + super relaxed feel. I'll definitely go back, and I'm in Texas. Super awesome staff (repetitive on purpose, just to emphasize how awesome. Check out their other bars, too. Every single one I've been has been an excellent experience. The management/staff/owners are doing something right for sure, lol I could carry on forever. If I lived closer it I'd either be a hell of a regular or relentlessly and continuously applying. Can't recommend this place enough! Also one comment said it wasn't a "nice" place. So I'll start by letting you know that I'm not a fan of dive bars so take my review with a grain of salt. As far as dive bars go this one is pretty decent and unique. The drinks are nothing special but fairly priced. There's a shuffleboard table and lots of random trinkets all about. There's also a good sized patio out back which I'm sure is great during the summer. At 7pm, unsure if this is every night, the music goes off and jeopardy comes on over the speakers and two tiny vintage tv sets behind the bar. That was an interesting thing to witness as people tried to guess answers with their friends. The service was good and the bartenders are friendly. The crowd is definitely dive bar crowd in other words hipster whatever you call them types with leather jackets and beanies. Everyone is nice though and it seems mostly locals. I have been to this bar about 10 times. It is a great addition to the Bed-Stuy neighborhood, and I hope that it is here for a very long time to come. I really appreciate all the little attention to details of the rustic decor repurposed from other old establishments giving it a feeling that it has been there for decades even though it is very new. I feel like I am back home in a little dive bar in my middle of nowhere town where you'd see a bunch of grandpas drinking beers on an afternoon. And yes, that's a cool thing. Great bar! It's super casual with cheap drinks and a great space out back that they just redid. The bartenders are all friendly. They have a juke box with some great music, if that's your thing. They allow dogs (!!!) and I think it lends itself to a more friendly atmosphere that allows people the space to not stick to their friend groups and interact with other people. read more

I really don't like this place. If I walk into a bar in Bed-Stuy that looks like the demographics and vibe of a bar in Williamsburg something is very wrong. The decor is intentional manufactured divey, not genuine. They overcharged me on my tab by accident while I was there by 3x & it took forever to fix. I noticed when walking by they started serving coffee in the mornings briefly for some reason despite there already being a very good coffee shop right on their corner, thankfully that seems to have stopped. The restaurant that used to be in this space is dearly missed. If you're too lazy to take the G train to Williamsburg and that vibe is your thing then sure, go here. read more
