Hosted my birthday in the backyard -- great vibes, cheap drinks, good people. Great neighborhood bar.

Wanted to find a chill bar that had outdoor seating to bring our dogs. This spot fit the bill with a nice backyard area and a good beer selection. Most of the beers here run from $6-9, which isn't too bad nowadays. Got a couple of draft IPAs and enjoyed the weather outside. No food to speak of but they do allow outside stuff to be delivered/brought in. Overall cool spot and easy to get the bartender's attention. Would recommend if looking for a chill spot for the night.

Grabbed a beer at Lowlands Bar on Tuesday evening. A solid dive bar, which frequently has live music. Quality: A laid-back dive bar with a few surprises up its sleeve. First being the lovely backyard patio, and second the live music events. They have a solid draft beer list, with a focus on local, as well as small cocktail and food menu. Not a bad place to find yourself. Quantity: Standard size beer pours. Value: $7-$9 for a Draft Beer. Ambiance: Lowlands Bar is located in Park Slope. It is in a more industrial area and not a place you are likely to just stumble upon. The inside space has a dive bar feel, with a small area set up for live music in the back corner. There is also a beautiful backyard patio. Tons of outdoor space with picnic tables, lights, and greenery. No music outside until the jazz started, but indie rock played inside. Crowd: A small crowd as the jazz show was about to start. Service: Friendly bartender, quick with drinks. Parking: Plenty of nearby street parking.

Maybe it was a bad day, but I wouldn't want to come back here. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy, not too packed, but busy. We found two empty barstools right away and the atmosphere seemed pretty good. Groups of people coming in, random singing, there was even a birthday party in the back corner. The only one who didn't seem to buy into it was the bartender. He looked alternatively angry, frazzled and exasperated. My buddy asked him what kind of bourbons were available and he rattled off a few and trailed off, literally back pedaled away before my friend could even say what he wanted. In fairness, he seemed to be by himself and was doing a ton of prepwork: slicing garnishes, bringing stuff up from storage all while trying to hold the bar down by himself. My buddy asked if there was an issue-we literally just sat at the bar and weren't rowdy or anything he replied a private party was coming soon and he was frazzled which is understandable but I see no reason to be that way with present customers, it might make them not want to return.

Literally the best service. Between the ablance, the drinks, and the food, couldn't recommend a better spot

This is a good bar. I know this because it has all the things I look for in a good bar: 1. Slim Jims. OK, I don't know if I've actually seen Slim Jims in any other bars in the past decade, but I'd be lying to you if it didn't make me happy. 2. Friendly, unpretentious bartenders. They will give you a decent pour of whiskey, chat with you if you're so inclined, good-naturedly joke around with people who insist on using straws (when they could just use their face straws) about their hatred for turtles...you know, the things good bartenders do. 3. A great happy hour ($4 wells, $1 off drafts, M-F until 8 pm), as well as affordable drinks when you've missed out on happy hour. 4. An awesome backyard (although you may want to rock some bug spray). And Ms. Pac Man/Galaga...the sweet flat table games, not the arcade-style. (Now Lowlands is just showing off.) 5. When I come into the bar in the early afternoon, there's a solid chance I'm going to run into old friends, or make some new ones. This is rare in a city this size, but if you encounter it out there in the wild, you're probably in a great bar. Oh, and they are a coffeeshop in the mornings, before it's socially acceptable to be drinking alcohol. They seriously won't even serve you alcohol if you try and buy it, and they frown upon drinking out of the taps when their backs are turned.

Saturday night. No crowds - everyone fled the decibels!!!

Nice little place - they are a coffee shop till 3PM, and after that a bar. Good selection of beers. Not crowded for a Saturday night. But maybe this is 'cuz of the "DJ" who is playing some 80's tunes at a volume that is .... unbearable. Seriously, would have given them 4 stars - but this is just too loud. Health hazard just like smoking. Will stick to competition in the future.

Unfortunately this place fell very flat. Leading with what we liked: Their mocktail offerings were good, promising a 0.0% ABV which is hard to come across when mocktails are offered. They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised. While it was comfy once we made our way back there, it was reminiscent of a lounge style bar space that almost any bar could replicate with the right room and budget. We didn't feel as though this hit the spot and were let down by this experience. I'm not sure if I can judge the menu of drinks/ foods as expensive, but we left hungry bc we couldn't justify some of the prices. In addition, I've seen a lot of complaints about the volume of the music: it's definitely loud at the front but a lot lower in that back lounge space. It's as loud as any bar's music level would be, but truth be told we were expecting music that matched the vibe of what was advertised and yes, at a lower volume.

All the drinks keep with the tropical, fruity taste with a hint of spice. They are also broken up into categories (dry land = no alcohol, shallows = average amount of alcohol, and abyss (larger amounts of alcohol). The abyss section has some cocktails that are limited to two per customer. They have some bar bites like fried green tomatoes, shrimp toast, broiled oysters, ricotta, dumplings, sliders. I had the French fries with kimchi ranch, which were underwhelming. Bartenders were cool and kept the drinks coming. I got in immediately without an issue or a wait, but it was right after a snowstorm. I've seen some people struggle to get in or have a long wait.

It's classy but not too fancy and has enough space but doesn't get too loud. They have a nice happy hour menu from Tuesday-Friday from 5 to 7 as well as all day on Sundays which has very decent prices such as an $8 old fashioned among other things (see the photo.) the bartenders I've had before have been friendly with some good recommendations. Outside of their wide selection of cocktails which run the gamut of liquors, they have a nice wine selection, a handful of craft beers, and a very small food selection. The first time I was here, I had one drink which was the excellent Star of The Ice Snow for $17 with Iwai 45 whiskey, brie-washed Carpano Antica, Fernet Branca, barrel-aged orange bitters, and sassafras bitters. It had a a bit of bitterness, some sweetness, some spice, and some light mint from the fernet and was a pleasant complex drink and was certainly worth it from the price. The second time I was here was just this evening where I had two drinks. I first went with something that I was thinking of getting the first time which is their outstanding Vivian Darkbloom for $15 with Union mezcal, lime, pineapple, charcoal, Velvet Falernum, and lime bitters. The drink has mild citrusy sweetness as well a bit of smoke from the mezcal and is probably my favorite drink I've had here though the other drink I had the first time gives it stiff competition. I asked the bartender what he recommends and after a small discussion, he said either The Bell Witch (which is a gin and chartreuse cocktail with a strong herbal flavor) or what I went with. Said drink was the Under a Cosmic Cloak for $16 with rhubarb infused rum, Trois Rivieres rum, Smith & Cross rum, yerba mate, lime, grapefruit, and whey. The bartender said that it wouldn't be overly sweet as the rum was milk washed and this was indeed the case with just a mild sweetness and some fruitiness. There was a light herbal flavor otherwise presumably from the mate as well as a light citrus note and overall, it was good though definitely the least complex of the drinks I've tried and probably my least favorite but was definitely not a bad drink. The drinks here are reasonably priced for the quality, the bartenders are friendly, and it is classy but not overbearingly so. I can see why it's popular and I wish I stopped in more.
