For an acrylic fill no design and one nail with no tip, she charged $48- said taking off the gel polish i had before was extra. I stopped doing gel manicures because the maintenance was getting too expensive, but I am now a loyal client of Mandy's. When I got my first gel manicure from Mandy, it lasted 3 weeks without chipping. My nails grew out, but it stayed almost flawless. When I went back, I pointed out the only flaw was the gel on my pinky was too close to my skin, so it started peeling. She painted them perfectly this next time. The third time I went, I was confused when my index finger chipped the next day. I sent Mandy a picture and she told me to come in the next day to fix it for free. After that, the manicure lasted flawlessly for almost a whole month. Even though there were a few issues with the manicure here and there, Mandy always fixed it. The salon offers a vast selection of hideous, Halloweeny colors like Frosted Eggplant Marinara, Pumpkin Souffle a la Vegas, and a greenish one I'll call Fiona's Nightmare. The only pretty, delicate pink they had was an Opi bottle that was alllllmoosstt down to its last drops. I said, "can you start a fresh bottle?" and the girl said, "no." OK ... that's triflin' ... but I found an alternate color, a delicate eggshell Opi color that was also running low. She added thinner to it (that was my sign that I should have jumped up and run!) and painted my nails. Long story short: the very next day, I woke up to a bubbly paint job. Never again. read more

You know your feet are in bad shape when the nail technician giving you your pedicure busts out the electric filer. And that's exactly what happened when I came here for some ladies' bonding and pampering session at Sunny Nails. It had been awhile, a loooooong while, since I got my tootsies tended to. As a food server in la-la, I am on my feet constantly. This place made me miss my regular visits to nail salons in the bay. Because quite frankly, you can NOT find a decent mani-pedi place in Los Angeles for $23. WILL NOT HAPPEN. They have a variety of shades - including OPI. When the water wasn't hot enough for my pedi, I spoke up, and bygolly, I wasn't sitting in tepid water! The massage was actually decent (for both mani and pedi -- even got a little shoulder rub for the mani part, and I sorely, sorely needed it)! And although it was slightly embarrassing at first, I appreciate the heavy duty sanding of my calluses, corns, and other embarrassing foibles on my toes. They needed it! My manicure lasted about a week before I had to take acetone to them, and my pedicure is still going strong. Wish I could say the same for my soles! read more

Mandy is awesome! Caution to those who like their nails done gentle though. She will file your nails viciously. Sunny Nails is really good at Gel/Acrylic tips. They file and shape the tips to look very realistic. When the tips grow out it is not as noticeable as some other nail salons' tips are. The price is average. Not super cheap like some other places on Grand Ave, but not as expensive as some of those really fancy nail spas. Like 25 a gel fill. The nail polish selection is decent, but not huge. There are so many nail salons on this stretch of Grand Avenue - they are all pretty reasonably priced and well serviced - gotta be to survive this super competitive neighborhood. The best part is always that no matter how many people are already seated or just walked in in front of you, they are always able to seat you right away and get your feet soaking in water. I guess that way - you can't take your business to the place just 2 doors down ...[Although I'm actually wondering if maybe these are all owned by the same family ...] I generally find that I don't even need to bring a magazine b/c drama will ensue in front of me ... or I can just eavesdrop on the conversations going on around me. During this last visit the mayhem involved the Vietnamese nail salon manager, a white lady and her prom bound daughter and a sassy black lady and her boyfriend all up in a rage and tizzy on who was to be helped first. Checked this place out due to good Yelp reviews. I am already a customer of a nail salon really close by but was open to finding a better one. Came in and was told that there is a 15 min wait. I waited since I really need a mani-pedi. Got my manicure first and it was pretty decent. No massage or anything added to it... which was surprising since the other customers got one. It was a pretty busy day for them I noticed. Then I got my pedicure. Not much scrubbing and no massage included to....for some reason the ladies and the guy around me got theirs. The nail color selections were okay. Inconsistent service. It took too long to finish my nails. read more

I really like the space and they did a good job. It was easy to get in, and the ladies were nice. They take credit cards with no issues. My concern is that the post price for a mani/pedi is $28, and they charged me $33. When I asked why, they said they charged me $3 for getting my nails buffed instead of polished. No one mentioned this to me during the service, and the price should have been $31, not $33. I stumbled across this place a few months ago when I was in dire need of a mani/pedi. They have a great special for a spa pedi and mani for $23! That alone won me over. The women inside are very personable and were willing to accommodate a walk-in. Today I thought I'd treat myself to a pedi. It wasn't too crowded and the foot massage was wondrous. I felt very relaxed and comfortable while the lady worked on my feetsies. They are professional and do a great job with pedis and manis. The drawback is that it's located near Piedmont and sometimes there are some ungrateful customers in there thinking that they are better than everyone else; such as the woman who was seated in the chair next to me. She wanted to get her upper lip waxed while her pedi was being done. It was explained that she couldn't have it done, due to the transporting of the wax, she threw a fit, said she'd go somewhere else. She left, but ended up coming back and walked to the back room to get her 'stach eliminated. Some people... I would choose another. Maybe I just had bad luck, very bad luck, but they did not help. The pedicurist sliced my toe and after staunching the bleeding, went on. For some reason I stayed. By the time I had crossed the street, intending to shop at Safeway, my toe was bleeding and not feeling so great. So now I have a new pedicure and a new bandage. Was in search for a cheap nail salon... let me re-phrase: inexpensive but still decent. As other reviews mentioned, this place is cheap! $10 mani, $18 pedi, $23 mani/pedi combo. I was going to just get the pedi.. but couldn't resist paying $5 more for the mani. I was glad it did because I got a nice back rub with it. Parking was easy and the staff was nice. My one and only nail salon - been going there for over five years and only once had a negative experience (over eager cuticle trimming nipped one of my precious toes!). I'm a foot fetishist about my own feet and absolutely love all the attention they give my tootsies and legs during a pedi. I'm corn- and callus-free, which gives them more time for the outstanding mint-bubble rub and incredible massage (one time, the lady rubbed my thighs, too -not in a weird way) - it's always very relaxing. I want to mention that since their prices are so low ($18 for a spa pedi) I sometimes see women tip only $2! Two bucks for an hour's worth of love and attention to your little ones? This would be my last resort kind of nail salon. The main reason I come is because no matter how busy it gets the nail technicians will not rush through your nails and they are very detailed oriented. Last Saturday my toes were in desperate need of a pedicure so I came here. They only charge $18 for a pedicure and $23 for ped/mani. I walked in and they only had a very small selection of OPI. I only use OPI and China Glaze. So I picked my color, there wasn't much polish left in the bottle but I'm glad she didn't put thinner in it. When I went to soak my feet in the water it was cold. Throughout the entire pedicure she used room temperature water. You would think that the technician would feel if the water is warm before asking me to soak my feet in it. I wanted warm water, but it was my mistake for not telling her to add hot water. She was very detailed when she was clipping and cleaning my toes. I also like the scrub they use. It makes my feet and legs feel smooth. She really took her time doing my pedicure. It took a little over an hour for my toes to be done. I would give this place 5 stars if they carried more OPI nail polish and if the water was warm. read more

The ladies here are very nice, especially the owner (I forgot her name). Many of the ladies though, are not good with English, so if you're Vietnamese or Chinese it might be better to tell them what you want. However, they never disappoint! My nails always look pretty after coming there. They have multiple chairs, so you will be taken care of quite quickly. The manicures last for about 2 weeks, pedicures a little longer. Went to get a pedicure yesterday. The lady started digging into my big toes, making me flinch because it was painful, she then told me I had ingrowns and said she wanted to help me with them. I've never had an ingrown toe nail before so I had no idea what she meant or why she felt she had to be the one to remedy this if I did. My toes have been sore and sensitive to any significant pressure since the pedicure, and today one of them looks red and swollen ... I hope I didn't get some sort of infection! BEWARE! My back can wait. I was pleasantly greeted and directed to a spa chair. My dynamic duo worked meticulously and efficiently on my sad sad hands and feet. They did an excellent job on my nails and cuticles. Not at all like the rushed jobs I've felt in other places. The salon isn't fancy or anything, just the run of the mill nail shops. But at $23 for a mani-pedi, I can live without the cosmetic frills. So 50 minutes later, I'm heading for the farmers market with happy pretty hands and feet. I went to my normal spot (2 doors down) which I LOVE, but they were packed and said it would be an hour wait, so I decided to check out this place. Came here and there was only 1 customer.... Does that say something?? Anyways, we were helped right away. I got a mani/pedi and instead of getting both done at the same time, they did my pedi first and then moved me to a table for the manicure. Maybe I'm spoiled from my other place, but I prefer (for efficiency) sake to get them both done at the same time. Tried to find a current magazine to read and the newest one I found was from February..... since no current magazines were available, I was hoping to watch tv, but all of the tvs were off and no background music was playing so it was awkwardly quiet. During my pedicure, I was sitting in a massage chair, but it was broken, so no massage for me. The lady who did my mani/pedi did an OK job on my nails. She didn't make all of my nails even and then there was still polish around my nails on my fingers when she finished. I asked her to clean it up a bit and she did, but I feel like that should have been taken care of already. Lastly, there color selection is sparse. I always want OPI because I feel it lasts longer and they had minimal colors to choose from. It was $23 for a mani/pedi and then $18 for a pedi only. A few bucks cheaper than my place down the street, but I'd rather pay the $2 extra for a working massage chair, better magazines and clean nails. read more

I remember when this place first opened. The Grand Opening sign lured me and my sister in. The place was friendly and efficient, which led me to continue coming for my regular mani/pedi. For some reason the color on my toes seem to last the longest when I get my pedi here. The massages while getting the mani/pedi sure feels good too. After all the years, it's still my place.
