My rule of thumb is to either give good reviews if deserved or none at all. And I don't like talking bad... But I'm compelled to write this review. It will take an hour of my precious time but I will because this place really got to me and others should know. My last visit here was extremely disappointing and I don't think that a busy holiday season should be the reason why you get mistreated. Originally, the first two times I came here was very decent and I thought this place will become my next go-to nail salon. Well, not anymore! Yes it is pretty cozy, clean and they do a good job. However, none of those things really matter when they turn you down for one of your services after you're only 8-10 min late (when I notified in advance) saying they don't have enough time anymore meanwhile another client comes in??? That client still had to wait for like at least 15 min! What does it tell you? Clearly, they overbooked that day letting their greed take over... I don't know if the other employees were all off or sick that day but the two of them were surely trying to squeeze in more than they could handle! My problem with this situation is how they tried to fit me in when they didn't really have time to begin with yet telling me it's ok. When I called the day before, the owner said that they're pretty booked but she'll call me back. To be safe I booked at another salon. And when she called back, I cancelled at the other place since I prefer to go to a place I know and like. In the end, I got blamed, only half of the service done and questioning why did I choose this place instead of the other one when even based on the tone of a person you can tell that you'd receive a better service. Then I had to walk around in flip-flops (they only did my pedi) for an hour in the cold and rain looking for a salon in the neighborhood that could do my mani. No one could take me in! That's how busy it was everywhere. I was also super hungry. You can imagine how frustrating something like this can be... So much commotion and stress over mani-pedi?! I have better things on my mind than to be in this kind of situation again plus there are plenty of salons in that neighborhood with stellar reviews! Not going back for sure! Neither is my sister who was also turned off earlier that day after I suggested them. Such a pity. You lost two potential clients now. I had gel polish removed and a regular manicure at this busy little shop. I had called ahead for an appointment, yet during my time there I had 3 different technicians doing my manicure. The standard operating procedure seemed to be - if there was a walk-in customer, whoever was at a good stopping point would get that person situated and started on their service, leaving the first customer to sit there and wait. Then they (or another employee) would come back and continue the service on the first customer. This happened to me 3 times, and while I was there another customer who came in at the same time as me had a complete pedicure and started on a manicure, and a woman who walked in after me had a complete pedicure. This was my go-to nail salon before finding my new favorite in SF. I highly suggest making an appointment with them as I've seen them turn away multiple walk-in customers. I will say that they're not the nicest over the phone, but they are really nice in person. GEL MANI - Totally worth it. Linh (who I assume is the owner) is a pro at gel manicures. She makes sure that you're happy with the color before proceeding on with the rest of your nails. Super quick and quality service when it comes to the gel manicures-no complaints. PEDICURES - They line their tubs (big plus!). Pedicures are a hit or miss. The first time I came in and got a pedi, my calluses were scrubbed down super well. Every time after that, however, the person doing my pedicure just skimmed the surface. What's the point of paying for just a foot soak and polish change? OVERALL - Gel manicures are the best here. Haven't tried competitors nearby, but there are several nail salons on Piedmont. Parking can also be a pain to find on the weekends. read more

This is my new favorite place! It is small though, only 3 pedi chairs and 2 employees, so plan accordingly. But it's worth it! The chairs are amazing. I think I found my new go to spot for Gel manicures! I called the salon on a Tuesday to make an appointment for 2pm, I arrived and was the only one there so I sat down right away. Initially I came in with pretty thick acrylics that I had done about 3 weeks ago for my vacation, (don't have a photo of those) so one the ladies began to wrap my nails for a soak off. Once Lynn arrived she took the wraps off and began clipping the acrylic off, I usually don't like this because it's more damaging to my nails but she let me know that it was only because the acrylic was too thick and I trusted her so we proceeded with the clipping. The entire process of the acrylic removal she was always making sure that I wasn't in too much discomfort and I thought that was very nice of her. After the acrylics came off the manicure process was so quick! We were able to keep my nails at a good length and she began to buff them out and file them into a nice round/square shape. The finished product is perrrrrfect, especially after having nails on for 3 weeks that I wasn't absolutely in love with. And she didn't even charge me for removing the nails she said it's usually $10 but she only charged me for the manicure $27. Thank you Lynn! Clean, affordable, and detail oriented. Only two women work here, and they're both super nice. I got a manicure, and it was the most detailed manicure I have ever had in my life. My nails look amazing. They gave a hand/arm massage and a neck massage with my manicure, and I almost fell asleep in my chair! It costs only $12 for a manicure. They do take reservations, and since there are only two women it can take time, so be patient, or show up on a good day and time (not a weekend..in the morning). I went to this nail salon after a coworker recommended it to me. Luckily for me this place is in walking distance from my apartment so I didn't have to fight for parking on Piedmont Ave. She told me to make an appointment beforehand because the place is very small, and she was right. There are only two wonderful ladies working there and three pedicure stations, so walk-ins are harder for them to accommodate. Putting size aside, these women are sweet and more importantly DETAIL ORIENTED! I received and amazing pedicure (one of the best I've ever had), and Lynn gave me a perfect full set manicure. I'm very particular about the shape of my nails and Lynn had me checking and double checking to make sure they were just as I wanted them I came in with a specific design I wanted (black matte with a glossy tip) and she made them exactly as the picture I showed her! The women doing nails were polite, professional and extremely sweet. My sister visiting from Maui needed a fill and she agrees it was the best nail experience she's had thus far. I'm a regular at Grand Nails on Grand Ave, but the waits are unbearable nowadays. America Nails is much closer to me and they were open! I called to make an appt an hour before. When I arrived, I was greeted by two friendly ladies, Lynn & Wendy. Wendy quickly helped me while Lynn was finishing up another customer. You can tell their attention to detail when it came to cleaning my nails. Mani/Pedi's come with a 10 min massage, feet, calves, hands, arms & back and are $25 Tues/Wed ($27 on other days)! It was a great way to end a long day of work. They made an effort to make conversation with me and didn't chat amongst themselves which could get annoying especially if you don't know understand them. You can tell that they really focus on customer service especially with the competition out there. They mentioned that it can get tough because there are so many nail salons in the area and because of the economy, not many women (and men) are getting their nails done. Incredible quality at an unbeatable price. They are fast and have been able to accommodate me with less than 24 hour notice, although I would recommend calling in advance for an appointment. They do not have the most luxurious location, but they more than make up for that in quality. I am much happier with my nails here vs other locations in Oakland where I paid nearly double. Others have noted that you will likely have multiplied attendants. This has happened every time I've visited but has not been an issue for me at all. They are all very skilled and this allows for quick service and allow you to get the most qualified "painter" on your nails. Again, the quality has been so great I have no complaints. I appreciated that the associate said the time I wanted was full and suggested another time, which worked. I parked on the street in 2-hr parking. I was sat right away. During my services, a few people walked in and were told it was booked. I appreciated that because so many places that I had been to will tell customers yes and to wait, when clearly they are not staffed. Just your typical Vietnamese nail shop.... I made an appointment for 2:30 shellac manicure, arrived on time and the lady started to foil my shellac for take off at 3:10. Had to wait another 15minute for soak off, by then it was 3:30 when they finally started to remove my initial shellac( which I had to run to the meters knowing that I had to add another hour if they didn't even start on me yet). Overall I should not have been there for 90-120min for a shellac manicure that I had an appointment for! They were rude, talking in their language about me. Asking me where I got my current shellac done from. None of the three ladies made conversation or even an acknowledgement when I first arrived. Overall CONS -not too friendly to younger age groups or to their regulars -what's the point of setting an appointment if you still have to wait 30-45min -gossips in their language in front of you -no price chart decide brochure -was told $22 for shellac manicure on the phone, but was charged $25 -no massage for a manicure?! -metered parking only good thing is that the shellac turned out good. read more

I can't emphasis on how meticulous they are at what they do, they'll never rush you and make sure that you are happy and satisfied with the color and look of your nails. If your lucky , sometimes there is a big fat adorable golden retriever laying out by the front door that belongs to the flower shop next to the shop. During the entire time I was at this salon I could hear the class of kids below yelling and screaming at the command of the teacher.
