I've been coming here for years and I always order the lamb and beef gyro. I know the cost of food has risen immensely, but the last two times I've ordered the gyro, the meat is getting cut thinner and way less is on the gyro. A drive-thru with healthy made to order options?! Yes! I love the convenience of drive-thrus, yet don't like that usually the only options for that are fast food chains. Fortunately, this place came up on a search of drive-thrus near me while I was running errands. The service was really friendly. I got the Steak Salad and it was good and a good portion size too. I was a little nervous going here since some of the reviews said the lady working there was rude. I had no problems, and indeed the Latina women who served me was quite pleasant. I ordered the Salmon Salad and bowl of the Lentil Soup. The salad came with a good size piece of salmon, lettuce and a few small tomatoes. It was good. The lentil soup was okay, but I needed to add a little hot sauce to spice it up. While waiting for my food, I used the restroom, which was pleasantly clean and nice looking. The decor in the restaurant looks a bit dated, but they deserve credit for the plants and flowers they have scattered about. I'm willing to give them another try. read more

I walked into this place yesterday. I attended the Venice market event. I bought a bottle of water. I then asked to use the restroom and I was informed by a very rude manager that the restroom is for dining in customers only. The onion rings were soaked in oil and didn't quite hold their form as if the oil wasn't hot enough. For the quesadilla, I wouldn't get it if you like more than just a sprinkle of cheese. Craving some fried zucchini, I searched for a place close to me and Yelp! directed me to Sunny Grill, and I'm so glad it did! This mom & pop restaurant has a drive thru which is awesome, just be careful not to miss the drive thru entrance just before the building and through the City's bus lane you might miss it. As I pulled up to the drive thru a very pleasant sounding female took my order. By her tone of voice she seemed happy and this gave me a great feeling that the Sunny Grill would be a great choice to have lunch! (Note my receipt states order taken by SunnyGrill Inc Manager). I ordered my zucchini and a cheeseburger to give it a try and I was pleasantly by the tasty burger which was great size (definitely your moneys worth, it was no whimpy burger). This is my first time here and this is after hearing about this place for years as I live in the neighborhood. The decor is very simple and sweet. It's in a comfy little area that feels very quiet. The prices are fair but I can tell the place has seen better days. I have been to diners that are similar and usually the decor and interior should not be all that which you judge your experience on. The woman at the counter who I know is the manager because of all the reviews I read about her while I ate my food. Her customer service is extremely poor and could use some updating. She has that in common with the building. I ordered a side salad with a chicken sandwich. The food was good and it's not anything to ride home about but it satisfied me perfectly. As someone who works in customer service I usually will give someone a pass but not responding after something asks "Hi, how are you doing today?" And then giving them a blank look like you're judging them which seems to be a theme in this reviews, is not how you make people want to come back. The place was empty which was lovely as I needed some peace and quiet. Would I come back again? Maybe if I wanted another chicken sandwich and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. Would I ever recommended it to someone passing by LA or who I was close with? Heck no! Used to be great, as I've been coming here since they opened, but I was very disappointed by my last visit. First, the good. Their milkshakes are still the best I've ever had, anywhere. The menu is also the same as it's always been which is nice. That said, prices are absolutely ridiculous now. Worse than that, the quality of our meal was nowhere near as good as it used to be. Our Turkey burger was dry, my chili cheese fries were dry, and the onion rings were small and falling apart. The latter is especially sad as they used to have well breaded large ones here. These just seemed old and slopped together. Also, I know it's been said by others but what I assume are the owners don't have a ton of hospitality, which is ironic as they are in the hospitality industry. They barely want to talk to you. I used to look past that when the food was exceptional and laugh off every single time I'd order a tuna sandwich and be given a turkey one by mistake, then to be made to feel like I was the one who was wrong somehow. Now, they don't get that pass. I feel like the stupid road diet really hurt this place and the ridiculous pandemic restrictions and cost increases dimmed the sun in Sunny Grill even further. I have had their breakfast burrito - it is extremely bland and not worth it. I did feel redeemed, however, when having their chicken gyro which is good. Wow! This place is very affordable! I have passed by this place several times as it is next to the pottery studio I attend, and haven't given it a second thought. The older lady at the register was a bit curt and cold with me, as others have mentioned. She told me that she would not help suggest anything and it took her a while to get to my order even thought there was only one other person ahead of me because she was busy showing him pictures of her family and walking very slowly. When I opted for the Mediterranean quesadilla, she told me "very healthy"... well I did ask her for info about the different quesadillas and whether she had any recommendations... but she said she wouldn't provide recommendations, yet her response to my order does NOT sound like a ringing endorsement of what I ordered. The Mediterranean quesadilla consisted of feta cheese (no other cheese), tomatoes, and spinach, sandwiched between a flour tortilla and grilled until crispy. I'm not sure if it's that healthy, but it did taste good. For less than $10, it's a decent amount of food. Come here for a quick meal, but don't expect good service.
