On Friday, May 19th, a friend and I went to this store so that I could purchase a new pair after I accidentally broke my pair of sunglasses. While in the store, my friend and I tried on several different pairs, as you do at a sunglass hut. After trying on various pairs I finally found the ones I wanted and purchased them.
Fast forward 2 hours later, I was driving to our next location when I received a call from the store manager, which threw me for a loop because I don't know how she got my number or even why she was calling. While speaking to her, she accused my friend and I of stealing a pair of sunglasses and she specifically pointed out my friend. In my dismay and shock, I asked her why she thought that and what proof she had. She proceeded to say "we have camera footage." I then asked how she knows specifically that he stole them. She then said "when he came into the store he was wearing optical glasses (eye glasses) and in the footage when he left he was wearing a pair of out the a pair of sunglasses." At this moment, I was not with my friend so I politely let her know that I would be meeting up with him in a few minutes again and that I would ask.
Immediately upon meeting with my friend, I obviously asked him the question "did you steal the sunglasses?" In shock, he answered "no." We then called back the sunglass hut, and again, asked what proof she had regarding her accusation. She then proceed to give a different story. The second time she stated "we have him in footage putting 'something' in his pocket and walking out." After calling her out in her story changing, she proceed to defend her self by saying "I am just doing my job." I would like to point out that she said he put "something" into his pocket, which could of been a array of things such as his phone, wallet and keys? But she jumped straight to sunglasses.
Me and my friend are no thieves and we both work very hard for the things that we own and the things we want/ need. So with that being said, we asked if there is footage, then can we see it? She then proceed to say, "we wouldn't be able to show it to you today, but we can next Tuesday at the earliest" which would be 4 days away. Come Tuesday, the 23rd, we received no phone call back, nor did they answer my call to come in. I understand the store has no obilgation to show us the video footage, but it is the fact that we did not hear anything back, any update, nothing, We were just left to sit there in stress and anxiousness.
I eventually called back and got an answer. Almost two months later, to be exact. I spoke to the manager that called me and accused me and simply received an "I'm sorry." Which to me, for a false accusation is not nearly enough.
Since this situation, me and my friend have not felt comfortable going to this store, nor do we feel comfortable going to any sunglass hut. In fact, it's caused us both anxiety at the thought of going to one. Not only did she accuse us, she made gave an us ultimatum to "bring the sunglasses back or I'm going to call the police." Which again, caused anxiety for us because neither of us stole anything so we had nothing to give back.
Anyway, enter this store at your own risk. You may get a call accusing you of a crime you did not commit. read more
