In the 46 years in which I've been wearing glasses and 36 years I've been wearing contact lenses, I have never encountered such incompetence by both staff and the optometrist, Dr Clayton. I paid $520 in October 10, 2024 for a year's worth of quarterly custom toric contact lenses. It is February 11, four months later and I still have not received the lenses I paid for. The first time the lenses were ordered, the optometrist, Dr Clayton, ordered the wrong prescription, apparently he didn't fill in the online order form correctly. When my husband went to pick up the first pair of contacts, staff handed him some monthly lenses that were not in my prescription and told him that I should "try them" since my contacts weren't in yet. Can staff hand out prescription items without a prescription? That seems like it violates state law. When the first contacts came in, finally, they were in the wrong prescription. The Dr said he put in the information wrong in the computer. So he ordered a second set. The second time Dr Clayton ordered the contacts, he, for some reason, wrote a new prescription, without informing me or giving me a copy, (not sure if that violates federal law). The second pair came in and didn't work either, because the measurement of my right eye was off. I just want the contact lenses that were supposed to have been ordered on October 10 using the prescription that was written on October 10th. Today I called to see about the status of this third order. Staff can't tell me the status. Staff tells me that the Dr Clayton will call me. Mind you, every time I've called to check on status, I've been told I will get a call back from the Dr or staff, and they never call me back. It's very frustrating and a waste of time. I tracked down my former optometrist, Dr Nicole Ha, who is amazing, and scheduled an appointment with her. I'd rather pay $$$ out of pocket for a real doctor at a professional office than continue to waste my time here. Do not recommend. read more

I chose to go to Optometric Center of Riverside because they were open on Mondays and their website says their doctors specialise in Ridged Gas Permeable contact lenses. I showed up for my first appointment with my current glasses and contact lenses. The Dr. Tried to sell me in soft lenses. I have always been told by any doctor I had been to before that I can't wear soft lenses. Still she insisted. I told her I would prefer to stay with what I am used to. She then told me she doesn't specialise in RGP lenses. (Why would they make me an appointment with a doctor who doesn't specialise in that lens if I specifically said that's what I wear?) We did the eye exam and had to make an appointment with a different doctor. I was told none of the doctors that specialise in RGPs work Monday. Placed an order for new glasses. When I was told to come pick them up they were bifocals. I never wear bifocals. I wear progressive lenses. The Doctor made the decision to order bifocals without consulting me. I then had to send them back and was charged another $330 for progressive lenses. Then had my appointment for the contacts lenses where the new doctor never introduced herself as a Doctor. Needless to say the contacts lenses did not come out right either. When the glasses finally came back they were progressives but were still not right. Not enough magnification and the progressive was not positioned right. I then had to go to another optometrist to have the lenses in the glasses replaced and finally order contact lenses. I do not recommend this optometrist or their office in Moreno Valley either. What could improve? Competent employees who know what they are doing. read more

We have been going to this Optometrist since the late 80's when they were located off of Alessandro Ave. Fast forward to the present and after Dr. Ragsdale retired and was no longer working there. I have been continuing to come yearly even after Dr. Ragsdale left and slowly seeing a personnel change in the front reception/office area, along with new Doctors. It hasn't felt as welcoming as before, as you were now treated like a new patient because no one knew you. When you go from knowing an office Manager (Candy) that will bend over backwards to make you happy, to an office Manger who sees a problem with a patient not agreeing with a charge, and then runs to lunch for an hour, there's a problem. After going in for new glasses and receiving them. I ordered a new pair of sun glasses using my old frames. I was told what was covered under insurance and what I would owe and I paid for them in full. After 10 days they called and said my sunglasses were ready and when I arrived to pick them up, I was met with an additional $82 charge for the polarization that they told me was covered by insurance. I explained that I had paid in full and was just picking my glasses up, and there shouldn't be an additional charge. The employee helping me was stuck between a rock and a hard spot because I said I wasn't paying the extra charge due to their mistake and misquote. The office Manger looking on, even looked at the computer screen and said they didn't cover the polarization. I told them that this was their mistake not mine and I wasn't paying the extra charge because I would have done things differently knowing that up front. The office manager heard me telling the employee, I wasn't paying the extra charge and she immediately grabbed her water cup and headed to the back office. When the employee said, I would have to pay for the extra charge, I told her to remove the new lenses and put my old lenses back in to my frames and that I didn't want them, which she did. I then asked for a refund of the $260+ I had already paid and she said she wasn't authorized. I asked who was and she said her Manager but she was at lunch. I said if she was still in the building to get her and she refused. I said to get Dr. Clayton out front and she said he was at lunch. So I was forced to wait an hour in their lobby for the office Manager to come back from lunch. When she did, she explained that a mistake was made and that I should understand and pay the extra charge. I said they misquoted me and I had already paid in full. Never once did I receive notification prior to the lenses being made or when told to pick them up, that there would be an extra charge. They blind-sided me when I came to pick them up. I told the manager I wanted a refund and she said she couldn't because there was nothing wrong with the lenses. Once she knew I wasn't accepting that and the confrontation continued, she told her employee to write the $80+ off this time. But proceeded to make a point that this was a once time thing (little did she know, this was a last time thing). When I tried to respond to that by explaining my point, she chastised me by repeating, "that's why we are gong to write them off this time". But she was too late to the party that she intentionally missed. I wasn't upset the employee who made the mistake but when an office Manger runs to lunch knowing there is an unhappy customer due to an overcharge, you've lost my business along with four other family members. I was more upset with the Manager who claimed she had been working there as long as I had been coming, back in the 80's, which was not true. Maybe in the Moreno Valley office but not the Riverside Office. Candy always took care of any issues and would have never ran from a problem with a patient. It revealed an unprofessionalism and ignorance I cant tolerate. Based on other unfavorable reviews, I'm not the only one noticing the issues this office is now experiencing. read more

Have been going here for years. And recently the past couple of years we have had issues with our glasses or orders. Not sure what the problem? My progressive glasses are horrible can't see out of one of the sections. Called them and they said they can't refund because of the policy. I never received a copy of the policy and was never told about the policy. Should have known when another patron was there during my visit and she had an issue. The front office staff seems to be lost every time you have a question. I will not be returning nor will my family after I get my glasses fixed. Perhaps if they fix the issues with my insurance and copay, it will change my mind. read more

The office was nice. Everyone was pretty passive towards me including the doctor, I came in nice and appreciative maybe it's because I'm young that I'm not respected. Anyway, my insurance only gives me so many appointments a year and I wasted mine here. I came in with eye pain and strain, the doctor said nothings wrong maybe get some eye drops. My eyes aren't dry...they're strained. I just bought some reading glasses off Amazon hopefully they'll help more than the doctor did. On a side note, make sure you're advocating for yourself. Came in to look at glasses and walked out with an eye exam done! Talk about right timing! Stumbled upon this place in search of new eyeglass frames on Google search. With a vast selection of frames, you're sure to find something here. From wall to wall selection, they have the best frames to choose from. I love the fact they have a huge showroom. Choosing the right frames can be really hard. Customer service is excellent! The staff is so friendly and helpful. The optometrist is friendly and kind. I couldn't be more happy to have found this place. Dr. Ragsdale is very thorough during the eye exam, explaining everything in the process. This definitely helps bridge a trusting relationship with a business in which you keep going back. Parking is easy, as you'll find plenty of parking in the back. Off the Central Street exit from freeway, this location makes it easy access from whatever direction you're coming from. read more

Wish I found this place sooner. The staff and the doctor are so friendly. I felt like they actually cared about my eyesight. Didn't feel rushed throughout my exam but also was able to go in and get out in a timely manner. If that makes any sense. They way they speak to their patients is very comforting and welcoming. I picked this eye Center based on Google reviews and for sure they lived up to it. The facility was spacious and clean, the staff were courteous, friendly and helpful, and the frame selection was excellent. The exam was thorough, and I was comfortable through the entire appointment. I have VSP for my vision insurance, and I was surprised at the final bill which included exam, designer frames, and lenses - lower than I thought it would be. I certainly recommend this optometry center for whoever needs to upgrade their lenses or who just want a new style of eyewear! read more

I have been coming here for years per my MIL recommendation. The staff is friendly, however the last few times I've went a nice receptionist named Britney has helped me. One of the first times she helped me she accidentally undercharged because she was looking at the wrong information she called me back after I had left to tell me of her mistake and pay the difference which I did gladly (everyone makes mistakes from time to time) I continued to go and she continued to be the one who helped me, during my last visit she must have done the same thing but I had no idea until a few months ago I kept receiving letters that I still owe them a balance which I again don't mind paying. What bothers me is she continues to mess up and if this has happened twice to me how many other patients does she mess up with. I've called multiple times to ask to speak with a manger over the course of two months and she's typically the one who answers I'm not sure if she's purposely not telling the manager but I've even gone in to speak with someone and the manager was off that day so I left a note for the manger to call me it's been almost 2 weeks and I've gotten no call. It doesn't seem like they really care about their patients just the money, hopefully this review helps people make an informed decision. PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

I had a serious issue yesterday and the receptionist at Dr. Clayton's office blocked me. The person who answered the phone told me to wait until the end of June for an appointment. I persuaded her to tell Dr. Clayton the reason I was calling and she told me she'd give Dr. Clayton my message but he never called me. She mentioned it was a long weekend that they were all about to leave. It was 3pm. Not sure if Dr. Clayton even received my message . I reached out to Dr. Ragsdale who was in this practice before he retired. Dr. Ragsdale told me to have it checked out immediately by Dr. Clayton within the hour. Because the receptionist did not allow me to see Dr. Clayton, I went immeduately to urgent care and that physician sent me immediately to UC Irvine ER where I saw a retinal specialist. This was a serious matter. Dr. Clayton's staff was negligent in handling a serious situation. It appears they simply do not care about their patients. read more

Got a text reminder that my annual eye exam is due. So I called to make an appointment. First thing I wanted to know is how the office is protecting their patients from Covid. I asked specifically if the doctors are wearing n95 masks, since the doctor necessarily gets very close to your face during the exam. I was told that one doctor works three days a week and he is not masking at all. The other doctor, Dr. Clayton, works two days a week and he is wearing a mask. Just my opinion, such disregard for employees and patients is beyond irresponsible. I'll find another optometrist. Patients have a choice, by the way, whether to patronize a business. But most employees need their jobs and don't have the option to go elsewhere. Sorry for them. Hope they can stay healthy. read more

Everything was really good, from the staff greeting me to my pretesting to my exam and even getting my glasses and sunglass lenses ordered for my appointment on September 15th. The staff cleaned everything as I watched and they had reduced traffic in the office. The doctor answered my questions during the exam and it was super quick. So, it was really prompt, efficient, and clear in the midst of Covid. My biggest complaint would be the doctor wasn't wearing a mask and a few patients that were leaving as I arrived were also not wearing a mask. When I scheduled the appointment a few weeks back, I had specifically asked what safety protocols the office had implemented. I was told they were only allowing patients with appointments to enter and everything was cleaned between patients, and mask wearing, the typical protocols most establishments were enforcing. Which was great cause I wear a mask all the time anyways. I thought that mask wearing included the doctor, but that wasn't the case. Once I arrived I was told the doctor was not going to wear a mask and was given the opportunity to get another appointment with the other practicing optometrist that was wearing a mask. Granted this was told to me on the day of my exam when I arrived. Had I been told this information when I scheduled the appointment, I would have made the appointment with the doctor that was wearing a mask. So, this eye exam was the most uncomfortable and fastest exam I have ever had. I even resorted to not asking as many questions as I would or conversing as I usually would because I only wanted the bare minimum speaking since he wasn't wearing a mask. Which isn't like me at all, I love talking with my doctors and this is not how I ever envisioned my eye exam going and I was even considering having a contacts exam, but chose against it since I was the only one in the exam room wearing a mask. I really liked this optometry office and optometrist, I just wish I had known ahead of time the doctor wasn't masking and I could have scheduled with the other doctor. That information needs to be made known at the time of the exam or at least a call given before the patient arrives. read more

The doctor knew what he was doing and was completely concerned about my eyes and the aftercare, which made me happy that he treated me like a person instead of just some random person.
