Sunflower Caffe was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives, but I am not sure it qualifies in any of those categories. The food is healthy, fresh and creative. Service is swift considering that they get a pretty good crowd even early in the morning. It is clearly a local favorite and gets plenty of early business before work starts in the area. This trip I consumed an awesome breakfast omelette with a huge pile of fresh blackberries, raspberries strawberries & blueberries instead of potatoes. Fresh, rich and bold coffee helped warm off the slight wine-over from the previous night. And weather permitting, out back is a magnificent courtyard with vined trellises, a running fountain and cozy seating nooks. In the rear is a wine bar built out of old wood and wine casks. I went to this restaurant on my trip to Napa. I arrived at 9:30 and there was line outside to get seated on a Saturday morning. I waited about thirty minutes to place my order and get seated. It was completely worth it the food was great. I got the granola waffle it was amazing definitely recommend. I also had the oat lavender latte, so good. The restaurant is beautiful, love the vibe. (in the end close to same price and wait as a nice sit down restaurant) Long Story We wanted something casual and sort of quicker than a fancy sit down restaurant and the Sunflower Caffe was recommended to us. The casual look was kind of cute and all the people working there looked like hippies. They have two busy patios, one out front and a nicer one out back with lots of potted plants. We waited in the long line to order and after about 20 minutes we got to order. My husband wanted the duck sandwich and even though it states on the menu no substitutions he just asked them to leave off the mayo. The lady taking the order shook he head "NO" to him. He wasn't asking for a substitution but just to leave something off he won't eat. So he wasn't able to get the duck after waiting at least 20 minutes and settled for ordering an Italian Style Sandwich. Since it was humid here we picked a comfortable table inside and waited about 20 more minutes for our food to get ran to us. Both meals were OK nothing was wrong with either one. The Italian Style one did have lots of turkey in it but was OK. My salad was tasty and not very fancy but really was OK. The only thing food wise I didn't care for was the lemon bar. It had a nice lemon tang but the baked part tasted like the way White Play Dough Smells. Didn't like the lemon square. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Confit Sandwich ($10) and omg, the mini kick and filling was absolutely great. The bread was sort of like a brioche style and I loved how the mixture was a creamy cabbage filling. The spice wasn't overwhelming but if you're sensitive, tread carefully. This sandwich definitely gets messy but the restaurant will provide utensil sets on request. As of 4th of July weekend 2020, outdoor dining is open and for those doing takeout, they are allowing paying customers to use their restroom which is around the back. read more

Located in the middle of downtown Sonoma, the Sunflower Caffe' was recommended to me by my hotel. I am a huge breakfast person and I was really excited to order something delicious. I was able to be seated right away. There is limited indoor seating and a lot of outdoor seating. I got a table outside which was adorable. My server came right over and I ordered a breakfast sandwich & coffee. I only waited about 15 minutes, most of the waiting time I spent waiting for the bathroom. There was only one stall. The breakfast was delicious and very affordable. I walked around the downtown area and had built up another appetite. Since I worked out earlier, I went back and ordered a protein shake which was delicious. I believe it is banana and peanut butter. It was a great experience, both times. A really good salad here is the watercress and herb salad. They are famous for the lamb burger. While I thought it was good, it's not a favorite/something I would order again and again. Love the outdoor seating and this is a good place to bring groups because everyone pays for their own food! I ordered the buttermilk biscuit sandwich and the lavender mist cocktail. BOTH AMAZING!!! At first I was hesitant to get the sandwich because I thought it might be greasy but it was far from it. All ingredients are very fresh! The sandwich contains soft scrambled egg (with chives), sliced avocado, and the most soft biscuit. If you're not sure what to drink go for the lavender mist. My friends ordered the grilled skirt steak sandwich, but we were informed by a server that they made a mistake and forgot that the grill wasn't open yet and would open at 3pm. They were very apologetic about the situation and offered to make something else for my friends on the house. Because the indoor area is not that big, the line makes it even more congested. The interior was cute with big sunflower painter on top and large chalk boards for menu writing. We tried the famous smoke duck sandwich and a soup and sandwich combo of cream of califlower and grilled cheese sandwich. The smoke duck sandwich is divine! The duck meat was soft and full of flavor, we only complain that the whole plate is not big enough to make us full. The cream of califlower soup is equally delicious. The grilled cheese sandwich is ok, again, a bit too small to our appertite. Total damage is $26 before tips, a bit steep for 2 sandwiches.
