A quiet visit alone to this cute cafe made my morning. I was served not an amazing outstanding out of this world egg with hash browns, but a more simple home cooked breakfast. Was able to enjoy a cherry scone and a taste of childhood with a date square. Loved their choice of house coffee - Salt Spring. And to top off my visit, I was quite entertained by the local Town Talk. Visit. You won't be disappointed. read more

We went to the Sunflower Cafe on family day this week. When we arrived we were there would be a wait. I ordered 2 turkey toasted sandwiches and two bowls of Moroccan pea soup. When the food arrived we got two half sandwiches and two cups of soup. I explained this to the waitress and she brought out someone from the kitchen who told me I was wrong and had paid for two half sandwiches and cup of soups. My diabetic husband and brother in law visiting from Ontario did not have enough food and we left to go home and prepare additional food since we had already waited an hour to get our order. I was impressed with the food but will never go back the error was not mine and if the staff incorrectly rang in our order when my sister and I were at the counter they could at least have apologized for the error. Sadly this review will be shared with friends and family across the country. So disappointed in our treatment. read more

Unfortunately I went here to have lunch with my elderly parents today. The food was average. My issue was the poor communication between the front end staff and the back patio staff and their customers. On our arrival we ordered our food at the front counter and were told there was a table available on the back patio. When we walked around the building to the back patio we saw an empty table assuming it was for us as there were no other empty spots. We were abruptly told to wait to be seated...next time. The table was in the direct sun and I soon realized was not suitable for my elderly parents. It just so happened that a table in a shady area became available a few minutes later as we were waiting for our food to be brought to us. I then went in the back door of the cafe to tell the staff that we would like to move to the other table and it needed to be cleaned. I was then told abruptly AGAIN that I wasn't suppose to be in that area of the cafe, I was somewhat gob smacked with such an aggressive response. I was speechless as I gathered my thoughts. I then attempted to explain and defend why I was in that area, which seemed to be falling on deaf ears. The owner in the kitchen then started explaining that Fraser Health regulations do not allow people in this area of the cafe. All I was wanting to do was tell them that we would like to move to another table before the next set of customers walked in. My request would have taken all of about 10-20 seconds. My request was taken out of context and an argument developed between the owner and a THIRD staff member. So much for customer courtesy!!!! After my interaction with the owner and staff members it appeared that we were being ignored as other customers received their meals before us, even though we were seated long before them. read more

I've eaten lunch here a couple of times, with my wife. The food is generous portions of sandwiches and soup and the place was very busy each the time we went. Parking May be a challenge, but we have always been able to find a spot. We love this place. read more

What a fun little restaurant! My daughter and I arrived shortly before closing. The atmosphere is friendly, comfortable and funky! The patrons and the staff were friendly - many of the locals were regulars And then the food. I ordered the big breakfast, and while they had run out of one of the parts of it, they offered a substitute, which was fabulous. Actually my whole breakfast was fabulous. The waffles had a wee cinnamon flavour to them which was yummy, the bacon was perfection and the eggs, mmm. My daughter ordered the veggie panini and it was flavourful in so many good ways. The seating consists of long tables. If you come by when it's not so busy like we did, then you may be have to share a table. But that's not always a bad thing!! read more

I stop here for coffee frequently. The organic coffee is good. I had breakfast here and was so disappointed. The pan fried potatoes were hardly fried at all - more like boiled and perhaps possibly touched the pan for mere seconds if at all. The two small pieces (more like one piece cut in half) of bacon I did receive were pretty much translucent. I didn't even eat the bacon or finish my under toasted bread. For a place that labels themselves as an organic grocer not to serve omega three free range eggs is appalling! The customer service is poor. They are not overly friendly and definitely not efficient. I'd describe this breakfast as over priced and only partly edible! read more

A friend and I stopped in for breakfast this morning.... They were trying to send a vibe that they are healthy and wholesome. Well, not true... this is a perfect example of a "Greasy Spoon." My potatoes were dripping grease on my plate, my scrambled eggs were "gray" and dirty, the eight blueberries on my plate were perfect. You ordered at a counter then sent you to a messy counter in the corner to get your own coffee. To my surprise there was no sweetener... we asked for it and were told they did not stock it... what about us older people with diabetes? Crazy! The first server that took my order was very warm and pleasant and the soup was great but i had a tuna melt and it came with apple in it - what the heck kind of food pairing is that anyway? I asked for something different and the other service staff and the cook dealt with it really poorly, no apology, no offer to fix, no interest in getting me something else, totally sucked customer servie, i got a pate sandwich instead which tasted like dirt really unfortunate since I have made a point of going to this place whenever I can when i am in Crescent Beach and b/c of the vegan options - historically has had great food but failed this time around - a little customer service would go a long way read more

This place reminds me of the traditionally upper class community which has Been in the area for generations. Its a place to escape the modern and get close to nature. Dumpy. Overpriced. Mediocre-Awful food. That pretty much says it all. Piad $8 for the house salad that was about a cup of lettuce with a few cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. Not exaggerating when I say this was the biggest rip-off I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Our total cost was $37 for a sandwich with a small bowl of soup and a teensy salad with a small bowl of soup and 2 drinks (that was with $5 tip). The sandwich my wife ordered looked horrible. Minestrone soup was mediocre. I was half expecting to see a rat wander out of a hole in the wall at any moment. Only good thing...the yam peanut soup was halfway decent. I love the Sunflower! I go all the time with my girlfriend at least 1-2x per week. The breakfast wrap is our fav dish and its fresh and hot every time. The comfy atmosphere, awesome service by the staff, affordable prices and delicious food make it a win win for anybody!
