This business has a rude scrawny guy who takes orders at the window. Be aware he discriminates against women. By his rude attitude he doesn't like selling rocks to women and favors male customers. He rolls his eyes at female customers and gives major attitude to women. He even raises prices of rocks when he feels like it. Bought rocks there before they were at a set price for years; went back and that day the price was raised cause the worker felt like being rude and dishonest to a customer. He apparently raised the prices cause of his discriminatory ways. It wasn't the first time I experienced his poor and unprofessional behavior toward customers. They always have long lines. This particular rude worker only has a job due to it being his family business or his bad attitude and service would have gotten him fired a long time ago! No real business would stand for him treating their customers in such a rude and demeaning way. I would go elsewhere to purchase rocks and materials for your landscaping needs unless you want to be discriminated against, mislead, cheated and treated poorly. This particular man was so rude I witnessed while in line a woman giving him her order at the window and then he wanted to take her credit card without telling her the total price for her order. Who does that? (Someone who wanted to cheat and raise the price). She kindly asked him to please provide her with the total and breakdown for her order. He then demeaningly rolled his eyes at her and got mad cause he would have to give her the total price. I think it was so he could cheat and raise the price he charged her for the rocks (without telling her). So he came back and told her the price which was much higher than even the last time I had been there a week prior. He said, "oh the prices went up". Which I find hard to believe! The dishonesty, discrimination and unprofessional attitude this guy gave her was totally rude and uncalled for especially coming from a business establishment. He then tried to say that she had an attitude and began fighting with her through the window. So unprofessional. What nerve! She told him that all she wanted was the total price and if he considered that rude then he needed to re-evaluate himself. As customers we have a right to know prices before we are charged especially when prices are sneeringly raised right before our eyes. Beware of this place. After seeing this worker act like that I quickly got out of line and went to another rock place. This Sunburst business is shady and workers are rude!! This Sunburst place raises prices whenever they feel like it. Don't go here unless you want bad treatment and disrespect! I rate this business a letter grade "F"! We are in the middle of landscaping our yard, and we came to Sunburst Decorative Rock because it provides more than a wide selection of rocks, gravel, and stone from which to choose. In transitioning our yard from stereotypical grass to drought-friendly desert-inspired landscape, we decided that river rocks of varying sizes would break up the foliage and give a sense of softness to an otherwise arid landscape. There are other shapes, in case you need pavers, and Sunburst offers chunky cube-shaped rock...all the better to stack or scatter to make your own rock sculpture. It's super chill and remote, and you just pick out what you want, place it on a palette the side of the path, and ask the front reception to call up their guy with a forklift. He picks up the palette and places it on a weight station: rocks are sold by the pound. We also picked up gravel, and they offer varying sizes and colors. Colored glass even. If you don't want a dump truck full they will bag the rock you pick out and load it in your car/ truck. The bagging is done on the spot to get you out in a hurry. My experience with them was terrible, I came because I'm in the middle of landscaping my yard. When I first entered the door. This lady who I'm assuming was the manager. Was yelling and mistreating her workers. That was already a bad first impression. A bit over priced as well. When a gentlemen in front of me was trying to ask a question about prices he was ignored by the manager and sent him out with another person to help him. Very very unsatisfied. Update- so, after writing the below review, twice I have gotten emails from a David H, I think it was, who first called me a "l y i n g b i t c h" and another explaining their process, and why I was wrong. There's a reason their rocks come in non-clear bags. Read below. WORST place! I'm SO disgusted. Despite bad reviews I went because I wanted to save a few $. SO PISSED-- the bags of SMOOTH Arizona rock I ordered had a tons of granite, lava, rough & rugged, sharp, broken rocks, dirt, etc. (Is this why they bag them in paper-- so you can't see the crap they load up in there?!) This was to be in an area where we walk barefoot. I slit all 16 bags, then dumped them, so I didn't see until it was too late. JUST as bad as that- the older Hispanic woman there was COMPLETELY RUDE to customers- screaming at an older Chinese gentleman, then later saying all kinds of stuff about another customer in Spanish (don't know if she thought I and others wouldn't understand or didn't care). Also- she was trying to get all the customers out at 12:50pm, when they closed at 1pm. She kept yelling about the workers having to leave, NO interest in making sales or helping the 4 of us trying to buy at that time. I haven't actually seen anyone other than this woman who tried so hard to get rid of customers. Then- when I went to open my more expensive ($25 each) bag- one was taped shut and much lighter than the other bag, so it wasn't what I paid for. NEVER going back. Ever. I found Stone Yard in Alta Dena after that. Brenden & Mario were great, the guys who loaded up my vehicle were nice and helpful, and the bags are CLEAR so you see what you get, not to mention actually nice samples you can touch/feel by the door. We recently purchased some arizona river rock from here and they were able to delivery the same day. They have a great variety of rock to pick from. The only catch about buying arizona river rock by the cubic yard is that it contains a lot of sand you need to wash out. Aside from that, I'd buy from them again. read more

Got rid of my grass and replaced with desert gold crushed rock and David was very helpful, I gave him my measurements and he accurately recommended exactly how much I needed for my project. They set up a delivery and the Rock was delivered the next day. I did shop around before and found out they have the largest facility of the few places I visited in the San Gabriel valley. Be careful with this decorative store? They doubled charged me with some decorative rock I recently purchased. Upon calling to complain I was directed to speak with a lady by name of Rose. Mrs. Rose then verifies the copy of her invoice and tells me she will call me upon investigating? Soon thereafter Rose calls me back and tells me that the company that handles all monetary transactions for Sunburst had mistakenly charged me twice and that a credit should appear on my account in about seven business days? I then told Miss Rose why it should take seven days when 48 hours should suffice. I told Rose that if I had not checked my account this would have gone unnoticed? How many consumers have been overcharged and for higher amounts? She then responded that this is the best they could do from their tails end? However to call back in seven days so that they can follow up with the company that handles their business transactions? I have purchased decorative rock from this location two times prior, and today was my third time back. I dealt with Rosie who was sweet and helpful. I remember her from probably 10 years ago and she is just as nice. I was able to purchase some charcoal rock for my front rose bed. In the UK they have blue slate which would have been ideal, but the charcoal has a blue hue as well and worked fine. Yes if you get a 1/2 scoop or more from a giant pile, there will be some smaller sized pieces to contend with as in any pile of rock. So buy knowing that, and maybe just buy a bit more if you want uniformity in overall appearance. But the overall color, size, and consistency were very good. Their prices are less than Lowes or Home Depot in my experience and the selection and ability to buy bulk with scoops or partial scoops is wonderful. I had a great experience again today, and this makes three times over 10 years with consistent pleasant visits!!!!!! read more
