My wife and I wanted to beautify our front landscape (a little challenging given most of it is a hill slope). We also wanted to spruce up our backyard in advance of a backyard wedding! We contacted Artscape and from the get-go, Ben responded promptly. Ben asked us to fill out a landscape needs/wants questionnaire which provided him with a general idea of our vision. My wife wanted more of a succulent dominant landscape whereas I wanted more color and plant textures. Ben spent a considerable time incorporating our thoughts into a cohesive plan and a landscape design to fit our topography and climate. This was a dynamic process with a lot of communication. With our budget in mind, Ben provided alternative plant choices and explained the reasoning in a thoughtful, kind, and professional manner. Ben is an excellent communicator and designer. Once we agreed on the plan, Oscar and Melvin completed the installation. They were always on time, worked tirelessly and surpassed our expectations of professionalism. We received status updates at each milestone and were informed on what work was to take place leading to the next milestone. During the install, they found some leaks in our irrigation system and fixed the leaks. Oscar went above and beyond to help us find and install a modern sprinkler monitoring system which is working wonderfully. We love our new front landscape and updated backyard landscape. Even our neighbors have remarked how much they love looking at the new landscape! We highly recommend Artscape! Ben's leadership and creativity in the design are unsurpassed, and Oscar and Melvin's plan execution produced a beautiful landscape which we will enjoy for years to come. read more

After a great deal of searching, I hired Artscape Gardens to landscape my property and I am so glad I did. From the initial meeting to the end of the project the process was collaborative. Looking to remove my lawn, I wanted drought friendly plants without turning my property into a rock garden. The plants are beautiful and my dry river bed is a nice accent feature. They installed new decking and fencing and gave my yard the privacy it needed. Neighbors stop by to tell me how great the property looks. Ben, Oscar and the team were professional, showed up when they said they would and were a pleasure to work with. read more

I hired Artscape Gardens to completely redesign my front yard with native, drought-resistant plants, and I'm very happy with the results! Ben was responsive and professional from our first meeting. During the estimate process, he took time to answer all my questions and was transparent about pricing. The crew was on time, professional, and communicated well throughout the project. They kept me updated on progress and left the site clean each day. No surprises, no drama - just solid, reliable work. Ben's knowledge and expertise really stood out. He understood native California plants and drought-tolerant landscaping, and his recommendations were spot-on. Artscape Gardens was excellent from start to finish. Ben and his team handled a fairly involved front, side, and backyard renovation for us in Cypress, and the entire process felt organized, transparent, and well thought out. We had the existing lawn removed and replaced with artificial turf in both the front and backyard, new plantings throughout, upgraded irrigation, a relocated water feature, citrus trees, and custom vegetable beds. There were also demolition items and a few changes along the way, and Ben was always clear about options, costs, and timing. Communication was consistent, and we never felt in the dark. The crew was professional, respectful of our property, and detail-oriented, especially with grading, drainage, and the finished look of the turf and planting areas. The end result looks great and functions exactly how we hoped. We're very happy with how everything turned out and would absolutely recommend Artscape Gardens to anyone looking for quality landscape work. read more

Ben and his team completed two projects for us last year. First, a complete redo of our front yard & driveway which included laying down pavers, building a fence w/automated gate, and installing privacy hedges. Second, a redo of our backyard which included demolition of the existing concrete, grading the space and adding some stairs, and laying down turf. They were great in identifying small design choices that we needed to make and working with us on the overall aesthetic. Both projects took 2-3 weeks each. We went with Ben because his price estimates were detailed, itemized, and transparent. We asked Ben & team back for a second project because of the high quality work they did and how easy it was to work with them throughout the projects. Highly recommend Artscape Gardens! read more

Ben was a COMPLETE lifesaver for me. When my insurance company communicated to me last minute that I needed to completely redo a long set of outdoor stairs, Ben was able to respond immediately and not just haul away dozens of old blocks and dirt, but build concrete stairs and a beautiful railing on a steep hill...on a VERY short deadline. Basically in just a couple days. I was impressed by his ability to quickly work out the details of what I needed and provide a detailed, itemized list of the items that we agreed upon. None of the other contractors I talk to gave me this level of confidence, nor communicated nearly as well, so Ben was an obvious choice. The quality of the stairway and railing he and his team built look so sleek and were a GREAT price compared to what other companies had quoted. I have had builders compliment the build quality of these stairs completely unprompted, on top of how good it looks. He even rerouted some poorly placed drains by previous contractors to prevent moisture getting under the house. I'm excited to bring in Ben and Artscape Garden for future, even more ambitious projects. He's gained my trust and confidence. read more

Highly recommend Artscape Gardens and the star team of Ben, Oscar, and Osiel (and others)! We wanted to redo our backyard and we knew nothing about landscaping, so we reached out to 3 companies like everyone recommends you do, to compare pricing and what they offer. While we found other companies were in a similar ballpark range for what we wanted, but we went with Artscape because of Ben's expertise. Like I said, we knew nothing so we really wanted some recs, thoughts, and opinions vs. just someone telling us "yes we can do that." He was able to work with us planning out what we wanted, and also patiently explained and answered all of our (dumb) questions - and this is before we even started work. He was super communicative with emails and phone calls! Once work started, it took about 2 weeks to do what we wanted (which was really to clear all our plants/mulch in our backyard, and install grass, sprinklers, and concrete, as well as decomposed granite in certain areas, along with add'l drainage and MANY other things). The team kept us posted along the way with photos, voice msgs, and worked with us when we wanted some slight changes along the way. We were super happy with how things turned out and just generally happy about our entire experience. It can be so stressful when you make major changes to your home, and Ben and his team really helped allay any concerns we had. We were such newbs that we didn't even know how to quite use our (existing) sprinkler system, and Oscar pretty much taught us how! Would highly highly recommend these guys to work with if you want to redo any part of your landscaping! read more

When we bought our home, the backyard was basically an unusable slope of dirt and weeds. We had no idea how to make it functional, but we knew we wanted a flat grassy area for our dogs, space for fruit trees, and the option to add planter boxes down the line. After talking to a few companies, we hired Artscape Gardens and they absolutely knocked it out of the park. They completely transformed the space by leveling a huge portion of the slope to create a lush grass yard, installed a concrete slab for a future sauna or studio shed, and filled the rest of the yard with beautiful drought-tolerant plants and fruit trees. It somehow feels twice as big as before and finally feels like part of our home instead of wasted land. Beyond the results, what really impressed us was their professionalism throughout the process. The crew was always punctual, super easy to communicate with, and took the time to explain each step and why they were approaching it a certain way. You can tell they truly care about both the design and the longevity of the work they do. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and recommend Artscape Gardens to anyone looking to reimagine their outdoor space! read more

Ben/Oscar and team did such a wonderful job with the landscaping of our house. Some positives I wanted to mention that I don't find in all contractors: - I only had to tell them things one time and they just got it done. How refreshing! - Final finished product looked better than I expected - Communication with the team was seamless - Pricing was transparent - Just care about doing a great job in the most practical way, not trying to sell you things you don't need or ripping you off - Showed up on time every day for work More contractors need to learn from Ben and Oscar's example. I would highly recommend them for your landscaping needs to due to their professionalism and high bar for quality. read more

Oscar who heads the crew was an absolute delight to work with! Ben, Oscar and team recently completed our landscaping job and we couldn't be any happy with the process and result. It was one of our first, big projects as first time homeowners which I think was evident in some of the questions we asked along the way, but Ben broke everything down for us and provided context that we can learn from and save for future reference. Ben and Oscar were so accommodating, it meant a ton. It was a learning process for us and the fact that they were so easy to collaborate with made it a no-brainer to go with their business. As for the job itself, everything went so smoothly! As always, Ben and Oscar were so communicative during the process and constantly kept us up-to-date whenever they were completing one phase and moving onto the next. They were able to complete our job at the estimated time, if not a little earlier than expected. Had a great experience working with Artscape Gardens on our front and back yard project. If you don't want to read my full review, a few words that come to mind when thinking of how to describe Ben and his team are communicative, strategic, value engineering, and detail oriented. Artscape Gardens gave our front yard a makeover, and replaced our existing backyard patio with new concrete as well as some additional concrete around the perimeter of the home. We have had some drainage issues in the rainy season every year since we first bought our home and it was time to get this project taken care of. I am a civil engineer, so I have an understanding of grading, drainage, construction costs, etc. but civil engineers are known for being practical. I sketched up our property with my ideas of what I was envisioning but I'm not a landscape architect nor do I have the knowledge to put together a planting plan with an awesome well thought out selection of plants that will compliment each other. We didn't see a need to pay for a landscape architect to draw up the planting plan once I got to talk with Ben. They can provide the service to draw up your plans for you if needed, but for an additional fee. Again... I'm practical. Ben emailed me a list of plants based after I mentioned I wanted something drought tolerant for the front and easy maintenance. I had proposed DG for a majority of the front yard because I like the low maintenance, and I like the organic look it gives with the right plants. Ben asked me to rate his list of plants on a scale of 1 to 10 to give him a clearer understanding our our likes and dislikes. From this he proposed a plant list with a cost estimate. It gave us a starting point to discuss the price, quantities, and plant selection. What completed the experience for me was when Ben shared video of his own backyard with me to show me how some of the same plants would look when matured and how they look when placed next to other colors. His backyard pictures actually inspired me to make some changes in the future to our own backyard. I would have included landscaping the backyard in the project for Ben and his team to do, but couldn't afford to keep adding scope to the project after all the concrete work we were having done. Ben communicated almost daily with updates. He is always available via phone call or text unless he's busy with another client. If Ben wasn't around, I could always speak directly to his foreman, Jose, with any questions or concerns during construction. Jose was a pleasure to work with as well. I would recommend Artscape Gardens to friends and family for sure. If we move in the future, and we need landscape work done in our next home I'll definitely reach out to them again. And I just want to add that since the project has been completed (2 days ago), several of our neighbors walking their dogs passing by have given us compliments on the new landscape. Big thanks to the whole team from Artscape Gardens! read more

Just no. I found the main guy in charge , Ben, to be very hard to deal with and spoke down to me multiple times. As a woman , I'm absolutely use to this behavior but I am no longer excepting it in my world. High prices. Rude. Def had a chip on his shoulder. And refused to do the work cause the scope of the work was less than 10k. Def not recommending these folks to my fellow eastsiders. read more

We had the wonderful opportunity to work with Ben and his team. We initially talked to Tammy via email and subsequently met in person to go over our front lawn project. She gave us several ideas and explained everything thoroughly. After receiving other quotes from different companies, we decided to go with Artscape Gardens because of their attention to detail and prompt communication style. Not only did Ben have other projects, but he also went overseas and he did not skip and kept us updated on our project. During our groundbreaking, Ben was onsite to make sure everyone was in sync with what was happening since we had a pretty significant project. His team was actually on site every morning at 7am ready work. Chapo (not the drug lord lol) was our foreman and was in charge of our project. We couldn't be more happier with Chapo. His team was non stop and treated our home like it was their own. Chapo had great ideas and made our space unique to our individual taste. We would definitely recommend Ben to any of our friends, neighbors, and family. The best compliment we could receive is random pedestrians stopping in front of our lawn to admire the work created by Ben, Tammy, Chapo, and Oscar. read more

We had recently installed a new deck and pergola in our backyard. However, the yard itself was nothing more than a dirt patch with some dying plants and bushes. We called Ben at Artscape Gardens to come up with a landscaping design that would complement the existing hardscape. He also was very good about taking our own ideas into account in crafting the design. His site manager Oscar kept the project moving along. He and his crew are very professional, and they did an outstanding job. Oscar also knows a lot about plants and how to maintain them. He gave us some good advice on plant care. This review is a long time coming and now many months after their great work, we are still so thrilled with what Ben, Jose, and the team at Artscape Gardens were able to accomplish in transforming our backyard. As a starting point we had major root issues from a tree that was removed, mulch covering up a lot of surprises, shrubs from decades past, to end up with a spectacular, super clean, and minimal low maintenance yard with subtle ambient lighting around our perimeter. Ben was super responsive and helped us plan for our design and was flexible when we wanted to provide the plant choices and pivot from our initial plans. First and foremost, Ben, Chapo, and the crew are truly good people. Any review for contractors, in my experience over the past decade, could stop right there...but I'll keep going ha. The work they did for us (pavers and pergola, as well as some rocks, cement steps, and cleanup) was impeccable. They truly care about what they do, how it looks, it's longevity, etc. We made many changes mid-project, and the communication was incredibly thorough, considerate, and flowed flawlessly. We've had awful experiences with contractors more often than I'd like to admit, so we feel very lucky and grateful to have found these guys, and will use them with any outdoor work we have in the future! We bought a fixer upper in Eagle Rock 2 1/2 years ago, and have worked with numerous contractors and companies (i.e., roofers, electricians, plumbers, construction crews, etc.) on the remodel. It has been pretty nonstop the entire time, and we can confidently say that working with Ben and Oscar from Artscape Gardens was by far the most seamless and enjoyable company to work with. Together they make a dynamic duo and you feel at ease the entire time. There is also an incredible level of transparency you normally don't see with a company and its crew. You definitely feel like everyone is ALWAYS on the same page. Our project was pretty massive: demoing nearly 2000 sqft of concrete, grading the property because of the gentle slope, adding an additional step to the front, as well as a concrete landing pad by the studio. New drain, sprinkler, and drip systems were installed as well as Marathon I sod for a nice front yard. They added 30x30" stepping pavers, and 3x5' poured pavers. The poured pavers also have turf between them, as we intentionally decided not to have the sprinkler system there for future furniture. We'd recommend Artscape Gardens in a heartbeat. Their price is competitive, and you feel good about supporting a local company filled with good people. Ben is an artist (badass drummer by night!), and being an artist myself, it's nice to support someone who runs an extraordinary business by day. When I wasn't sure how to implement what I wanted, Ben was very good at turning my priorities into smart design choices. I was always given options and suggestions throughout the design and I never felt lost or without control. Once we settled on a design, the work was done efficiently and professionally. I expected about three weeks of work, as quoted by other contractors, when it turned out to be one week total.
