We used PCW over 5 years ago to do some patio cracks/grouting repairs and they did a great job. Recently, we used PCW to do more extensive work as our patio had subsided in certain areas. We were pretty bummed when our plumber told us we would have to tear up part our driveway in order to fix plumbing issues at my family's new home. Ron installed a beautiful walkway and staircase at our house and it was the lowest stress experience I ever had with a contractor. A few months after the installation we had an issue with a drain line that ran under the new concrete work. When I called Ron and explained the problem, he immediately brought a crew over to investigate and see if his work caused the problem. After a bit of excavation Ron found that a previous contractor had used substandard pipe which had collapsed. Although the problem didn't involve any of Ron's work, he did additional excavation and made sure the site was prepped for the repair of the pipe. Having looked extensively on line and via yelp for a reputable and local company to replace my back patio I'm so happy to have located Ron and Pasadena Concrete works. Just look at the 43 5 star reviews, Ron and his team really deliver what they promise. Licensed and insured, Ron made sure I fully understood that they only deliver the best in their products and service. His costs are quite reasonable for the value. Cheaper alternatives are out there but you get what you pay for. Ron's team showed up both days exactly on time, protected all surrounding areas and did an immaculate clean up when they were all through. The concrete was carefully poured so as to allow proper drainage of the area. Rebar was used extensively and the area compacted and graded. After It was set, his technitions spent hours honing and smoothing the final concrete surface. Ron and his crew did a very fine job in replacing a slab of concrete that had been pushed up by tree roots under our driveway. He came out exactly on time for an estimate, went over the replacement options, and then provided a reasonable estimate within an acceptable time. I appreciated the fact that he didn't try to upsell anything to me and suggested that I find a leak specialist to find the source of my problem (concrete spalling?) before I did anything else. Ahead of the apocalyptic El Nino rains predicted for early 2016, I worked with Pasadena Concreteworks (PCW) to execute several projects on our La Crescenta home: 1. demolition of two slabs (320 SF and 120 SF) 2. construction of 30' retaining wall 3. construction of 30' sidewalk 4. construction of one slab (~880 SF) 5. construction of 22' block wall for seating 6. construction of ~30 SF sidewalk between driveway and steps leading up to front door Due to many years of not having a retaining wall between our home and the home north of us (on an incline), a significant amount of earth (18'-24" in height) had accumulated along the entire side of our garage. Additionally, in the absence of a retaining wall, rain would seep under our fence and settle in our backyard. To remedy this, PCW removed all of the existing soil and boulders to construct a 30' retaining wall - including a drainage system - and a 30' sidewalk. Given a patchwork of concrete slabs (various heights, colors, and sizes) in our backyard and our preference to have a larger patio (instead of unsightly dead grass and dirt), we decided to demolish all of our existing slabs and create one unified, ~880 SF slab. Another benefit was the ability to match the new slab with the breezeway which was about 6" higher than the existing slab. After PCW hauled away all of the existing concrete and materials to a licensed recycling facility for proper disposal, they poured a new slab - with agreed upon cuts and proper grading - at a consistent height and to allow rain to properly drain instead of pooling. To help create a natural, visual divider between the slab and the rest of the backyard, PCW built a block wall with 12" concrete caps for seating. Finally, because the steps leading up to our front door was at a lower elevation than our driveway, we had issues with water pooling near the steps. PCW demo'd the existing sidewalk and graded the new sidewalk properly so the water tipped to the side where they installed a drain to the street. Ron Leon is PCW's owner and I've already recommended him to a few friends who needed concrete work done. Unlike the other 4 contractors I had come out to bid on the project, Ron provided a thorough estimate outlining the work with a fixed cost. PCW's price was competitive with the other estimates I received, but I felt most confident going with them for two primary reasons: 1) all PCW does is concrete; and 2) Ron's focus while scoping out the project was equally about drainage as it was on aesthetics. Not surprisingly, there was a 3-4 waiting time before we could start our project, but Ron stayed in close touch by text/e-mail and there were no surprises before or after we started. I was pleased with Edwin, the foreman assigned to our ~3 week project, as well as the other PCW employees who were all courteous and diligent. We searched for dedicated, professional craftsmen to help us make a significant investment in our home, and we found what we were looking for in Pasadena Concrete Works. We needed a new driveway, path, arroyo rock front porch and retaining wall, and Ron helped us conceive the project in an architecturally tasteful way, appropriate to the period and scale of our 1920s house. He really knows his stuff, and is conscious of creating a design that will stand the test of time. Unlike many of the vendors we consulted, he really patiently listened to us, and helped us get exactly what we wanted, down to the precise finish of the driveway, curve of the path, and gorgeous rock walls. He also made many great suggestions that helped us refine what we wanted, including capping the porch wall to create bench seating, creating a place for neighbors to gather (we've already had cocktails there to celebrate the project's completion!) To be completely honest I would not use PCW again. From my experience, if you have a simple straightforward project with little or no complexity then PCW can likely get it done. But if you have a project with special considerations that requires attention to details and unique drainage issues this is not PCW's strength. Ron is very pleasant and a good salesman, but for complex jobs an experienced concrete contractor professional would be a better choice. By the way, PCW had the highest bid from all concrete contractors I contacted. read more

As the other reviewers say, PCW's work is top notch. The price was extremely reasonable when compared to other bids I received. What really stands out is his customer service. From the moment Ron showed up, I felt that everything was going to come out fine. He's very accommodating throughout the process. Even on the first morning when PCW showed up to start work and we saw the outline, we realized we wanted some changes. Ron was unfazed and adjusted the plan accordingly. It's done, and it's better than we'd imagined. Our last minute adjustments continued as we picked out wall caps. The PCW stone mason was amazing. We picked out slate caps that needed to be cut and beveled to size and the work is flawless (see picture). I highly recommend PCW, as they can handle it all: paths, walls, stone masonry.
