Well the wall we had told Edwin do. Well we wanted larger rebar and more then required by code. The wall to be concrete filled. All went to plan. Except for the LIEN we got from the concrete pump company he used. This was after the fact of paying Edwin. It was unnecessary stress on my elderly family members. I had to get mad at Edwin for not paying his subcontractor which then affect us and our property. I would suggest to make sure he has current insurances and that all his sub contractors are paid before your final payment to him. So maybe get their phone numbers to verify first? What a terrible experience. The work was decent and is a 5 star. But the business ethic of getting his people paid and affect people's title of their property. Not ok! Zero stars for that. I don't want to hurt his business by giving just one star so I will give 3 of 5. UPDATED. REVIEW. Maybe I should lower the stars though because Edwin is saying he doesn't know anything about this which is now a bold face total lie and I'm gonna post photos of our text messages of him saying he's gonna clear it all up. Edwin, you should've just said yes you screwed up instead of trying to cover up your light now you should get less stars. Reply No, the text chain you are in that. Don't try to deny it because I can prove it if I open it up it will show your name Edwin. You'd be better off saying yeah you screwed up you're a human you're not perfect and just admit to it but now the people will see you're not honest and if you get the photo taken down since it's a real photo and a real text chain, I'm sure I can get it back up You are the contractor who holds the license who signed the project contract, who agreed to make sure everything runs smoothly and you're the one who carries supposedly Insurance for that You should actually be sued for the situation because you cause two elderly people major stress and compromise their title to the property. It turned out so well and working with Eddie and his team was such a positive experience that even though it was almost a year ago they did the work, I just had to share. We got other bids on the project but none compared to the honest, straightforward communication we got with Eddie. We benefitted from his years of experience but also from his long-held contacts in the field. During the building process things came up like needing the footings for the posts of a pergola another contractor was going to build for us on top of the patio but he was out of the country at the time. Not a problem. Eddie had worked with him on previous projects and was able to get the footings and install them for us. Then we needed to make decisions regarding any electrical we wanted on and around the patio which needed to be encased in tubing with all the other underlayment and Eddie's electrician buddy came right away to help us so that our project didn't get delayed. We didn't work with an architect on this project. It was just me laying down a garden hose to visualize what a patio would look like and going over it with my husband. Getting the elevations right was tricky since we didn't want a railing to obstruct our view of the garden. Eddie was so helpful with this but he also has the smartest right-hand-man, I think his name is Manuel, who saved the day for me. I wanted to extend the patio out a certain way and in telling him what I envisioned he improved the design on the spot! Our original driveway was severely cracked due to tree root damage and was also collecting water in front of our garage due to a lack of proper grading and drainage. I reached out to Edwin at Monroe Masonry for a quote and explained the issues we were facing as well as what we were looking for. Edwin provided honest, straight forward advice and solutions and promptly emailed me an estimate and plans for exactly what I was looking for. His pricing was fair and I felt confident in his ability to deliver quality work. Now that everything is done I am completely blown away by the quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail by Edwin and his crew. Edwin went above and beyond, with improvements to our driveway that I didn't even originally ask for. He noticed that the 4x4 support beams for the roof overhang in front of my garage were pretty flimsy and would not withstand the forces of an earthquake well and suggested installed steel plating at the footings of the beams planted in a concrete base (see photos). He also replaced our sewage clean out which stuck out above our brick in front of the house and replaced with with a more modern cover that was flush with the brick. The flooding we were facing in front of the driveway is entirely remedied by the drainage installed with improved grading throughout the 1500sq ft of driveway to a central drain which goes out through our planters to the city street underneath the sidewalk. Edwin handled all the city permitting to deal with the sidewalk demo for us and generally kept us very well informed throughout the entire project. I cannot recommend Edwin and his team enough. We needed to widen our driveway, redo our front stoop, fix up and cap a cinder block wall, patch a few spots along the cinder block wall, and fix some brickwork out front. Worried that our job was too small, I messaged Edwin to see if this would be something he could help us with, and we are very thankful that he said yes! I am so pleased with the work that Edwin and his team did for us. We had a complicated project. One that I have been dreading for years. A long concrete pathway to our house, our only entrance, that I only own half. The neighbor owns the other side with multiple cottages. I have been patching it myself (adding in polymers for adhesion) for years to avoid dealing with/disturbing the neighbors and to prevent my young daughter from tripping on it.
