James and team also installed pre-cast concrete pavers across our lawn to create a walkway between the driveway and front entryway. It was clear that the team was meticulous in their workmanship, and cared about the outcome of the final product. I was afraid that the mismatch between the old and new concrete would stand out like a sore thumb but just as James had assured us, the concrete has lightened up in just a few days and will continue to overtime. Additionally, the extension of the three existing brick ribbons really tied everything together aesthetically. Both the expanded driveway and new paver walkway turned out beautifully. I appreciated Jame's practical approach when asking for his opinion on our options in terms of functionality and aesthetics. We bought fully renovated house, thinking whetting was done prefect, after moving in we found out that the concrete work at the front porch was done poorly, noticing big cracks and even sinking parts of it, my wife was looking for a reliable and honest contractor to tell us what's the issue before even opening the concrete, Jame you were on point ! He knew exactly what was the issue, we got several quotes and chose James. Few days later a crew came and start demoing the the front porch that the previous contractor did, throughout the entire progress James explained us the way it should be installed and pointed out for us the poor job that was done by the previous contractor unfortunately. They sent over a a contract which appeared to be professionally written, and referred to "Exhibit A" which was the scope of work. BUT...there was no exhibit A included with the contract. We sent back an email requesting the missing attachment and no response. Called and emailed them for about a week with no response. They are unreliable and unresponsive. James and his crew were great to work with and I would not hesitate to call upon him again when needed. We had a car crash though our planter and wall. We live in a pretty busy area and we're afraid that people could just walk in our back yard. We contacted several companies many would not be able to accommodate us in the time we wanted it fixed, those that did we're charging significant sums almost 15k. James of MMC was quick and even came on the weekend Sunday to look at damage and gave us quote and what would be done. The next Thursday they arrived cleared all and did a great job on the wall. Not only did they restore the wall and planter they even cleaned up all the debris. Workers were very efficient and the whole job was done in 4 days! Unfortunately I did not have a great interaction with James and his team. The work they did was fine (not exactly level as there are areas where water pools in the concrete slab) but my interactions with James were unpleasant. Things started out fine, I reached out for a quote and he asked for pictures and then sent me a quote. I decided to give him the job because it was reasonable and they were able to come out quickly. When they showed up he complained multiple times he should have come out because the job I needed done wasn't what he thought it was (not sure how much clearer I could have been with the exact description I gave and photos I sent). I ended up having to pay several hundred dollars more and didn't find out until they were nearly done with the job. On top of that, the workers were drinking beers on the job and left their empty Modelos and lunch trash in my yard (they tried to hide it but I found it a couple days later when I was cleaning the mess they left behind). So overall, not a great experience. If you choose to work with this company, I'd recommend having James come out and look at exactly what you want so you don't get screwed like I did. read more

We had a 49 ft long wood fence that separated our backyard from the alley. The fence was old, and was completely covered in vines that we had to trim twice a year. Recently the fence started to sag on one side, and was clearly getting worse day by day. With the upcoming rainy season we knew we had to replace it before the entire wall fell over into the alley. We were deciding between a new wood fence or a cinder block wall, after getting a few quotes we ultimately chose Master Masonry. For the initial quote, James came over to assess the situation. We let him know we wanted to replace the entire wall. The vines were also pulling on a separate side fence, and a section of the lattice had already fallen off that we wanted repaired. We also had sprinkler pipes and outdoor electrical wiring that ran under the base of the fence that we wanted preserved. Finally we had 4-5 rain gutters pipes that flowed out to the alley. James was very easy to talk to, and listened to all of our concerns. He described the entire process to us in detail, and emailed us an initial quote the next day based on the material we chose at the time, a cinder block wall with stucco finish. After further thought we decided we wanted to go with a slump block wall with a red brick top to match other brick work we already had in the front yard. James brought by a few samples for us to chose from, and gave us a revised quote to reflect the change in materials. The entire process was quoted to last about a week and a half. The first few days James' crew tore down the old fence and cinder block base. They excavated and poured a new concrete foundation. At the end of each day they put up a temporary fence to protect us from the alley during the night. The next few days, they built up the slump block wall, and cut the red bricks for the cap to our desired overhang. The last 2 days they repaired the lattice and side wood fence, they reconnected the sprinkler pipes, and reconnected our outdoor electrical lights. All dirt and debris was cleaned up and hauled away. The job site was very clean when they were done. As new homeowners, and we were very curious about the process at almost every step. We had questions and sometimes concerns for James and his crew along the way. They were always very friendly when answering all of our questions, and helped us through any concerns we thought we had. We are very happy the result, and we highly recommend James. read more

In the month of June 2022 called the number here on yelp and left a message, few days later James (Euro accent) called me back and rushed a conversation asking me what I needed done. Explained I needed a 6' x 100' block wall constructed. He told me to text him photos and my info so he could see the job and schedule a quote. I do what he asked promptly. 1 day passes, nothing. 2 day passes nothing. a week passes and nothing. Along this time I've called and texted James to get an update on that quote, yet James just ghost me. I never heard back from him and it's been over a month. Don't get me wrong I called other contractors and got quotes, I didn't wait for James to call me back. I just want others who see this yelp review and to understand this company is not all 5 stars. LA City approved our sidewalk application in for Pacific Palisades to replace our aging and very cracked front sidewalk. He said the whole repair would take 4 days and cost X dollars. When it was done it took 4 days and cost X dollars - exactly what he said it would. I had a wall in my backyard that was very old and was leaning towards my property/was very close to falling. I called James and he came over within 2 hours, assessed the problem and knowing that I would need a few days to coordinate construction logistics with my neighbor, offered to and did put up some support beams to keep my wall from falling over. Having obtained partial funding to replace the crumbling sidewalk in front of my home under the City of L.A. Sidewalk Rebate Program, I searched for a contractor that could construct a new sidewalk to the city's stringent guidelines. The city has a list, though you don't have to use those contractors. I got a bunch of bids and they were sky-high, really to the point of "why bother" because the rebate wasn't even half of the bids. Except James' at Master Masonry. He definitely had the best price and once his crew started, they knocked the job out of the park. I know -- it's just a sidewalk, but hey, it's in front of my house and it looks great. The persnickety city inspectors were happy, too. His guys were professional, thoughtful and quick. Hired James and the Master Masonry team to fix my sidewalk as part of the sidewalk rebate program. James ended up doing a lot more work than was anticipated. The second city inspector ended up deciding much more sidewalk needed to be replaced than the first, and James handled the entire process for the resubmission. Then the city decided that my driveway needed some additional grading to be compliant with whatever code governs such things - James handled the multiple consultations with the city and adjustments without me having to deal with any of the headache. The fact he extended himself so far on such a minor job speaks to his professionalism.
