I see all of the reviews that are very positive. I wish I could say the same. For starters, Sunstate started my pool as a resurface w a cool deck because I had a rust spot. They started December 5, 2023. As I am writing this, I still have issues. I hired Sun State as a referral from my neighbor who has a huge pool, and they did an amazing job. I wish I could say the same. Well, my nightmare started on January 30, 2024. They installed the shell, and I watched them do it. My rust spot was not treated, and I advised my Foreman, Jason, that I watched and they didn't treat the specific spot. This was the specific reason I had my pool resurfaced. I was told not to worry about it. It had a 10-year warranty. He said if I have any questions or concerns, let him know. Well, that is what I was doing when I said I was concerned about the rust spot not being treated. I was asked one of the guys about the spot and he said it was done. I called and advised Jason and he said I was speaking to the driver. This begs the question of why the driver was doing the interior of my pool. Next, we had waterline tile, which was amazing, and I had a white stack stone, which was absolutely beautiful!!! Okay, now this is where it starts getting really bad. About 4 or 5 days after the waterline tile and the stack stone were installed, they came to do my cool deck. They sprayed adhesive all over my stone and my tile so they could cover it up and do the cool deck. When they removed the paper, they left tape and paper on the tile along with the adhesive. So, about 4 or 5 days after my cool deck was done, my tile and stone turned yellow. My husband and I were sure it was the adhesive, and it needed to be scrubbed off. However, I was told that since my pool was finished, I needed to go to the warranty department. I spoke to Tyle, who told me he was the owners brother. When I spoke to the warranty department, (Tyler) he said that its manufacturer bad stone and that the glue bled through, so they had to remove all of my stack stone. So I had to drain my pool again. I was texting with Tyler. I told him I wanted a detailed report, so we needed to email. Right away, he sent me an email that detailed everything, the date, who was coming. Anything that I wanted to know was in the email. Unfortunately, not one thing went the way he said it was going. So the first guy that came was walking all over my newly surfaced pool. He cleaned his saw and all the dirty buckets in my pool. Not to mention, he used the butt of his hammer to shove stone where it didn't fit. The broken stone is still in my pool as I speak. When I asked what he was doing, he told me. Don't worry, it'd clean up. And he just kept spraying. I called Tyler and told him what was going on. Not to mention how disrespectful that crew of men were. I told him they were not allowed back on my property. This entire time, I kept asking for the original guy to go back because he did an amazing job. He told me the guys that were there were from the same family, and I told him it wasn't the same guy. I knew this because that original guy I actually made him lunch gave him water, and I tried to make him as comfortable as possible because he was doing such an amazing job. When i filed my complaint about the yellow stone and tile, they removed part of the stone but not the broken stones. While the guy was hammering in the he gouged my cool deck (still there). Tyler continued to tell me. He could not find the original guy that put in the stone. Three or four days later, ta da, he found the guy and sent him out. He came out on a Saturday, and he completed the job. Next, I wasn't sure about a couple of colors and wanted the document that I signed with my selections of colors. I left 8 voice mails and 2 or 3 emails. Yes, I finally got my color choices. When I did, I asked Richard when these other items were going to be corrected. He sent an email saying they would address the issues this week. Well, here we are, Friday at 2 pm and not a word from Richard. I am exhausted from this ordeal. What should have been exciting and fun was anything but. I still have broken stones and yellow adhesive on my tile. I really trusted these guys. When I chose my colors. I did it with the owner and his wife. They were so cool and laid back. I remember the kids eating cake out of the refrigerator, and it was just funny and laid back. Wow, it is so not how I thought it was going to go! Unfortunately, I don't have anything nice to say, which makes me sad. And, I will never recommend Sun State Pools to anyone. In fact, I will always throw my 2 cents in and advise not to use Sun State even if my opinion is unsolicited.​ read more

Avoid this company at all costs. Zero stars. This has been one of the most frustrating and unprofessional experiences we've ever had. We paid a deposit over two months ago for a pool resurfacing project. It was contractually estimated to take 10-40 days. More than 60 days later, the project has gone essentially nowhere. The only activity has been a one-time visit by subcontractors to chip out the pool--something we were only informed about via email. No one from the company has inspected the property before or after. There has been zero oversight, zero accountability, and zero communication from anyone actually managing the project. We are 60 days in and have not even spoken to a project manager. We have called and emailed at least 20 times and have been completely ignored. Not one person can call us back or reply to an email. The only responses we receive are generic mass emails every couple of weeks claiming they are "backlogged" with projects and we will be hearing from them soon. Calls are not returned. Emails are not answered. We have had to physically go to their office multiple times this week just to speak to someone. Each time, we were told a manager would call us back--and not once has that happened. Despite failing to meet even the most basic standards of communication or service, they are refusing to refund our deposit for work that has NOT even begun, saying that they haven't breached the contract since it allows for "delays" with the wording in the contract. No one from the company (aside from a salesperson before we paid our deposit, who is no longer at the company) has ever even stepped foot on our property or spoken with us about our project. All we have fairly asked for is our money back for work that hasn't even started, and they don't even have the decency or respect to do that after putting us through over 2 months of stress trying to even talk to someone and paying them a large chunk of money. Let me repeat, NOT one person at SunState has stepped foot in our backyard or called /emailed us back in 2 months and they are backlogged with work but still won't let give us our deposit back for work that has NOT even started. We will be taking all legal measures against them. Please see all the open complaints against them with the ROC, as well as lawsuits against owner Mike Dilger. UPDATE: Why is this company advertising for new business when Yelp reviews show many residential customers claiming their deposits were taken but the work was never finished? Current customers are being told by email that there's a backlog and no clear timeline for their jobs. See pics below for the FB ad posted on 5/14/2026! AVOID - Job Stalled for Months, No Communication, and Now Attorneys Are Involved. We hired Sunstate Pools in September, 2025, paid a 50% deposit, and watched our project go nowhere. They came out, did a partial excavation and stripped our pool, and then vanished for two months. We sent texts, emails, and made phone calls. The responses we got back were vague promises to "look into it" -- and then nothing. We filed a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors for job abandonment. The ROC investigated and dismissed the case because the excavation was partial enough that it didn't meet their threshold. So they essentially got away with it on a technicality. Here's where we are now: we've hired an attorney, we're reporting them to the Arizona Attorney General, and we are considering filing a police report for theft. We are not the only ones. There are several others in the same situation. This is a pattern, not a fluke. I found Mike and team using Yelp's request a quote feature (needed an algae kill and change of filter sand) -- he replied quickly and we were able to schedule a time within 48 hours (that's very good, compared to most pool services I've worked with) and do an onsite inspection. The guys arrived on time to the inspection, gave an estimate on the work, and talked through some of the finer points of what was going on with the system (btw Mike, as a customer who does my own pool maintenance, this was a major help. Thank you again). I loved that I could review the estimate online, pay online with a card, and the team got to work the next day while I was at work. I just updated my previous review to a 6 star because we had issues and I just got off the phone with the owner of Sun State Pools and this is the kind of company I would do business with again and refer folks too. A project like this is bound to have issues, however the quality of how those issues are handled is the key. My wife and I had our pool resurfaced and some landscapping updated and decking added. My pool pump finally quit on me, so I requested a quote from multiple pool service companies. Sun state was on of the first to respond and able to get out the next day to look at the problem. It was quickly identified that we needed to replace the old pool pump. They quoted me much lower than other places for a brand new variable speed pool pump. The work was perfect and completed in a few hours. They even offered to add me to their weekly cleaning schedule for a great deal. I love what they have done so far and my pool has never looked so good! I plan on being a customer of theirs for a long time to come. read more

Great company & excellent customer service. I would refer sun state pools to anyone who asked for pool help. Mike and his crew had a new light, easy touch panel and all new pop ups installed within 2 days. He was very fairly priced and his work ethic and communication are 5 star. Sun state pools has recently took over my weekly maintenance as well and they send me a weekly photo of my cleaning and all my chemical readings. Horrible communication. Called and requested an estimate. Met the designer at the house, took time out of my day to walk him through what I wanted. Short story, never heard back from them for weeks. Called them back asking why I never heard back, was told someone would call me right back. Never heard back again from them lol. This might be the worse business I have ever encountered.
