Okay my friend and I came to Sun House Cafe on April 1st around 11:40 a.m. We had seen this new coffee spot pop up on our Instagram reels as places we should check out and we decided to give it a shot. I will say that it has been a long time for me where I had to force myself to slow down and not suck down my drink. These drinks that we got which were the seasonal drinks, the matcha fruity Pebbles drink and the sea salt caramel drink were out of this world. The fruity pebble seasonal drink was just a throwback to childhood nostalgia because as I drink it I remember sitting in front of the TV watching Saturday morning cartoons and letting my fruity Pebbles cereal get mushy so that it could flavor the milk. Add the addition of matcha to it which gives it that yummy earthy taste it was just a brilliant combination together. My friend, who's not a big coffee drinker, was extremely surprised by how well balanced the flavors were in his drink. He talked about how the sea salt really helped make it a bit more savory but didn't take away from the sweetness of the caramel. He, to my surprise, actually finished his drink before me because it was that good. I am definitely excited to come back and try the other seasonal items that pop up throughout the year. I would also love to try the bit of pastries that were available. Did not do it because we had just eaten a snack and we really wanted to focus on the drinks while we were there. Oh and totally forgot about the Ambiance and the service. Both were just charming is the easiest word to use. The space is small but intimate and very welcoming. The individual that helped us behind the order counter was super helpful, answered all of our questions, and even gave recommendations based on the limited supply that they had for the day as many people had come in for coffee that morning. I personally really like this place! My friend has a vendetta against the coffee because it is made using a home espresso machine, and tastes bitter to her. I'm somewhat picky around about coffee and I actually don't mind it at all - perhaps it's the sweet flavors that mask, but I really like their espresso drinks. I've tried the fruity pebbles and the banana cream iced lattes and I would definitely come back!! Their Matcha is just okay. It looks like they pre-mix it in a pitcher and it definitely tasted watery. Definitely not the worst matcha I've had by any means, but if you've had good Matcha, then maybe this is a place to only try once (or just skip)! It's very small inside, just some bench seating. Great spot for lattes and matcha! I tried the iced chai latte with banana foam (recommended by my daughter) and it was so good! I tried a sip of my daughter's matcha and it was delicious as well - not too sweet with the right amount of bitterness. Will definitely be back. read more

Loved the Churro, well balanced and not overly sweet. My co-worker enjoyed the Banana Crème as well. Both drinks were very aesthetic and I'd come back to try other flavors. Street parking only, park on the street where you can't turn right, you'll have to go around the block. The area has homeless folks, but mornings are quieter. Ive only been to sun house 3 times-i say only because theyre so good i would come a little too often if they were closer to me ;) my fiance and I have had their banana matcha and hojicha before and both were delicious and great tea quality. On our recent visit, their lines have def gotten more eased up since last time when they were still new-this time we tried their blueberry matcha and the seasonal butter scotch latte. Both were so amazing, but a huge stand out was the latte for being strong and having such a delightful housemate syrup and cream top-sometimes im cautious to get espresso from places more known for their matcha ,but this place nailed it. The drinks here are amazing! I've heard of Sun House Cafe by word-of-mouth and wanted to see what the crazy was about. One time here and they got me SOLD! They are located in Midtown in a busy area. Parking can be a pain due to all the construction and compact area, but luckily we were able to find street parking. Not much of a line when we came and the staff were super nice. Menu was larger than I thought! They have their house lattes, tea, matcha, non-caffeinated, and a seasonal menu. I got the Banana Cream Hojicha and wow was it delicious! The banana cream was made on point and has dried bananas as well. Great banana flavor that complimented the Hojicha tea, which can be nutty. Their matcha drinks are also very good and had great flavor. We also opted to purchase their banana pudding ($7) and it was delicious! the ambiance of this cafe is so cute, but it's super small which i guess you can expect for a cafe in downtown. there's not a lot of seating & the line gets long fast on weekends. they don't accept cash so make sure you have your card ready. the space was super stuffy & i don't think the air was working or they just didn't have it on so it felt humid in there. their bathroom space is clean but they didn't have toilet paper or any seat covers either. aside from those few downsides, we got the banana matcha & banana latte which was both reallyyy good. i'd definitely come back again! read more

I love seasonal menus and wanted to try the peppermint. the cafe itself is really cute and street parking wasn't bad at all. It's nice that you are able to see them prep the drinks. Happy to announce that larger cups are now the default since my last review! I have found a new favorite with every visit. My latest obession is the Gingerbread chai and the Peppermint Cream Mocha. A very pepperminty cream top without being overly sweet to mask the chocolatey mocha. It's just perfection. On the last seasonal menu, the vanilla cherry matcha was delicious and the Ube Coffee. On the regular menu, you can never go wrong with the banana cream matcha or coffee. However I can't stop ordering the Earl grey matcha. I literally will order a minimum of two drinks for myself (one without ice for the next day). The new seasonal menu will be releasing next weekend, so run and don't walk to get the Gingerbread Chai! read more

The best thing about this coffee shop are their lattes! I normally don't go for lattes but as soon as I saw they had churro latte I was sold. It's nice hole-in-the-wall local coffee shop in the midtown/downtown area where it's thankfully not too busy. Very clean and nice inside. Their churro latte was 4.5/5 plenty of flavor, good amount of cinnamon BUT the churro was too crunchy. The customer service could be slightly better as I didn't necessarily feel welcomed there for some reason through body language. Finally stopped by Sun House Cafe! This specialty matcha and coffee shop has been blowing up on Instagram, and I wanted to wait for the lines to settle down. Sun House doesn't have a designated parking lot, but I got lucky with an open spot right out front on Saturday afternoon. Sun House is a small coffee shop, and I'd recommend it for grab and go only. Inside there's a couple benches for waiting, but no tables for dine in. Outside, I noticed a sign that they don't accept cash, so plan to have a card on hand. I ordered the Black Cherry Vanilla Matcha, which is one of their seasonal specials that rolled out at the beginning of August. I really liked the flavor combination and am interested in coming back to try their Ube Cream Matcha. Like others have noted, Sun House is on the more expensive side of the scale. I paid almost $10 with tip for one drink and noticed there's 7.25% sales tax applied. read more

Was really excited to try the matcha here and have heard lots of great things about it. Really liked how "experimental" and creative some of the drinks on the menu were and had a hard time choosing which one I wanted! My friend and I ordered two seasonal drinks: ube cream matcha latte and black cherry vanilla matcha latte; and one earl gray matcha latte. As much as I enjoyed the idea of the blend of flavors, I was disappointed in the matcha itself. The first sip of the black cherry and earl gray drinks, the matcha was smooth and rich. It balanced with the additional flavoring, but I was hit with a strong, bitter aftertaste, which can tell us about the quality of the matcha or the heat of the water for preparation. The ube cream on the matcha latte was delicious, but I could not taste too much of the matcha, as it was overwhelmed by the ube flavoring. The pricing and sizing of the matcha was standard. Upon receiving my drinks I can see a lot of ice above the matcha, and the cup was not full to the top. But the ube matcha was filled to the top. Best vibes, and amazing drinks! I mean what more could you ask for from a coffee and tea shop. So cool to have watched them grown from a popup to an actual storefront. Absolutely crushing it with the drinks which are now in a bigger size. I got the Ube matcha and it did not disappoint (if I could have a cup full of the Ube cream I would lol) the added matcha on top is a beautiful addition too. Their branding is 100/10! Finally got to try the new brick and mortar location! I enjoyed their drinks at a recent popup so I'm excited they have a store front finally. We came at opening so there weren't the long lines that you usually see on weekends! It's a small store but there is some seating if you're lucky. I've had their matcha drinks before so we tried a latte and a hojicha. The banana cream latte was very yummy, on the sweeter side if you like that. I added on banana cream on top of the hojicha and it was a delicious combo! Drank the whole thing nearly right away. Visited on a Sunday in the early afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to find no line. The place was fairly empty--just me, my friend, and another pair of customers. It was a nice change of pace, especially since my friend mentioned that there's usually a line out the door every time she passes by. We were glad to have caught them at a quiet time! I ordered the banana cream matcha latte ($7), and my friend got the mango matcha latte ($7). Our drinks were prepared quickly, and we received them in no time. The banana matcha latte is their current best seller, so I knew I had to try it--and I'm glad I did. The flavors were perfectly balanced: you could clearly taste both the matcha and banana without one overpowering the other. It also wasn't overly sweet, which my taste buds really appreciated. I tried a sip of my friend's mango matcha latte as well. It was good, but not particularly memorable to me. That said, she loved it, so it may just come down to personal preference. What I appreciated most is that you can actually taste the matcha in both drinks. So many places advertise "matcha" just because it's trendy, but end up masking it with so many unnecessary ingredients that the matcha flavor gets lost. Thankfully, this place isn't like that. As for the interior, there's some seating, but it's not the type of café where you'd stay and work on your laptop for hours. A tall side table also serves as a bar near the window facing the street. All light color wood or sleek white metal. An ornate-looking rug below the coffee table. Today was a little warm and there were two standing fans, a ceiling fan at full blast, and an AC wall until above where the staff work. Their staff are all very young, sub-30s. The cashier was friendly and bright. The team of six in a 5x5 foot square seem to work together really well All the drinks are 12 oz and iced. Oat milk was available as a milk substitute. It looks like their espresso machine is nice. Drinks are made using homemade syrups on the side, measured meticulously with a kitchen scale. Offerings: - Iced banana matcha latte - lightly flavored, matcha quality was pretty good, I liked the crunchy toppings and banana chip. Definitely liked the gingerbread chai more, but both were good. Just could've used a little bit more peppermint flavor in mine.
