Located next to IHOP & KFC in the Lowe's Strip Mall, the smell of fresh donuts with a friendly staff to greet you, puts a smile on your face and helps perk up your senses up properly! Often times there is a line in the morning (proof of their popularity), however, it moves quickly. Their donuts are well crafted, but there's not just donuts are on the menu. There's also croissant sammies, bagel sammies, & breakfast burritos if you so choose, but I gotta say, their true specialty is... THE FRENCH CRULLER: THEE BEST CRULLER you will have from coast to coast! I have not yet had something that tops this creation here! Outer shell has nice crispness to it, that is rarely matched by other donutteries, and yet the inner core is oh so pillowy soft!!! Mmmmm! The glaze and/or coatings (pink (strawberry because it's Oxnard?), white, chocolate, maple or glazed) are not excessively sweet. Such a great donut! If I could, I'd eat these every day of my life! One person brought in donuts from Rolling Pin Donuts, while another brought donuts from K D Donuts. To my surprise, almost everyone reached for the K D Donuts first! Before work, I decided to pick up two dozen donuts for my team. Within 30 minutes, they were nearly all gone. That alone says a lot! These donuts honestly have a slight edge over Rolling Pin Donuts, which has always been one of my favorite donut shops. Even one of my coworkers, who normally doesn't eat donuts, ended up eating two! She pointed out that they didn't have that greasy taste or overly sweet aftertaste--and I completely agree. The donuts were fresh, light, flavorful, and clearly a hit with the entire team. K D Donuts is officially one of my new favorite spots, and I'll definitely be coming back. In that time I've sampled donuts from more than a dozen other places around town and I've never found any better than the donuts from KD Donuts. The donuts here are far superior to Rolling Pin. As to why I say these are the Best Donuts in Ventura: The benchmark I use for comparing donuts is a white cake donut with chocolate icing, topped with sprinkles. Whenever I hit up a new donut shop, that's the first thing I try. The one they sell here reigns Supreme! Other highly recommended donuts here are the Apple Fritters, the Buttermilk Bars and the Old Fashioned (Chocolate, Glazed or Plain). I like that the donuts here are traditional donuts. The kind you can take a dozen of to work with you and you can be sure everyone will love. None of that $5/donut ridiculousness over here. Most here are $1.75, including Small Apple Fritters and Small Cinnamon Rolls. The large size of the fritters and cinnamon rolls, along with the Blueberry Fritter, Bear Claws and Filled Donuts will set you back $2.75 each. That's fair! When I arrived with my son to pick it up, the staff went to the back to look for the order and then asked me if I was sure I had placed it. I showed them the receipt confirming the purchase. I was then told, "We forgot to make it." I asked to speak with a manager, who gave a completely different explanation. He said their Wi-Fi had been "spotty," so apparently the order wasn't received until the time I showed up to pick it up. He then explained that the bakers weren't there yet and there was nothing they could do. My son was standing right there, excited about his birthday donut, and understandably became very disappointed. The manager offered him a single donut after seeing that he was upset. I said he should offer us way more than just a single donut and he said that was not possible. I did not appreciate the gesture. I asked why not refund us and still make the birthday donut and he said that was not possible either. At that point, it felt like an inadequate attempt to make up for a mistake that should never have happened in the first place. If the business knew their Wi-Fi was unreliable, why wasn't someone checking for online orders or making sure orders were actually coming through? That is a problem with their system--not the customer. What was most frustrating was the complete lack of accountability. First, we were told they "forgot to make it," and then we were told it wasn't their fault because of the Wi-Fi. Either way, my order was placed correctly, I had proof of purchase, and they failed to fulfill it. We ended up getting a refund and leaving extremely disappointed. This was supposed to be something special for my son's 6th birthday, and instead it became a frustrating and upsetting experience. Poor communication, a broken ordering system, and a complete lack of accountability. We will not be returning to this location I read a review with the same issue posted a YEAR AGO!
