FRESH & DELICIOUS DONUTS HERE!! We have such solid options for donuts in the 805 that Dunkin' Donuts really has no chance of taking over the scene here, especially when their donuts are not even made on site! Thompson Donuts, in Ventura, is one of those Mom & Pop shops that make incredibly delicious fresh donuts, and their customer service makes you feel like part of their family! There are other options for eats (like REALLY YUMMY croissant breakfast sandwiches, but that's for another review ;) ) however, it's their donuts that I feel should take point for all the uninitiated! APPLE FRITTER: For most of my life, I LOVED these things! Didn't matter how it was made, what was inside, they were just my "Go-To!" But as my tastes have become more finicky in my current state, it seams i have more of a preference for: not so doughy, LOTS of apple chunks, crisp edges but moist inside, and not too sweet of an outer shell. Their version here is delightful! CUSTARD FILLED RAISED: Thompson's "raised" donuts are well crafted, so you cannot go wrong with any of the versions that are available for sampling. But their Custard?!? LEGIT!!! Smooth, not too sweet, doesn't taste artificial, and a generous serving inside so you can have a lil bit with every bite! Yum! SPECIALTY THEMED DONUTS: EVERY holiday season they create fun themed donuts for people to enjoy! Or how about gigantor sized donuts? Yup! They hook that up too, on the daily! Festive joy in a "thinking outside the box" kinda way! VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! If we are looking for donuts in the Oxnard/Ventura/Camarillo area, this is our jam! Enjoy!!! ;)

Wowza! My favorite donut place is Best Donut in Westlake Village, CA. When I drive past Westlake, I always make a pit stop on my way to wherever I'm headed. So, as you can imagine, I'm looking for a local donut spot that makes their donuts similar. Thompson Donuts is very close! I ordered a maple bar and 6 glazed donut holes. TASTE: subtle, buttery, not overly sweet, melts in your mouth. No grease taste. Maple icing melts in my mouth. Donut hole melts in my mouth. APPEARANCE: fresh and not overly glazed or iced. Traditional size. DENSITY: light and airy. Pillowy soft. Has a very slight crunch. SWEETNESS: I don't like an overly sweet donut. This donut is not super sweet. It's perfect...no sugar coma after. I think this is going to be my new go to for local donuts. There are closer donut shops to home, but it's worth the 2 mile drive. Cost me $2.90 for maple bar and 6 holes. $16 for a mixed dozen. Service is quick. Ask for napkins.

Thompson Donuts is a nice, small donut shop located next door to Subway & near Vons on Thompson in Ventura. Service has been quick the past few visits. They were also nice to me the last few times as well. Which is probably why I don't mind coming back if I'm in the area. They seem to have some new menu items. Savory and or sweet is always a plus... I've also been able to pick up some good to go orders as well. Which is definitely something good :) read more

I don't say this lightly--Thompson's Donuts is hands down one of the best mom-and-pop donut shops we've ever been to. We're actually from San Diego and were just visiting Ventura, and it's a bit of a tradition for our family to try a local donut shop whenever we're in a new town. I also grew up in a donut shop for over 30 years, so I'm very particular when it comes to donuts--and Thompson's absolutely blew us away. The service alone deserves a shoutout--everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, which just made the whole experience even better. And the donuts? So fresh, soft, and perfectly moist. Every bite was flavorful without being overly sweet, which is honestly hard to find. You can tell they really care about what they're making here. This is exactly the kind of spot you hope to stumble upon when traveling--and then wish you had back home. We'll 100% be back next time we're in Ventura. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Update: They are also on the Too Good to Go app. Generally you get dozen donuts for discounted price. They were soft and fresh so I could tell they were today's donuts. Some other places you may get yesterday's baked goods in the bags. So I'd recommend them also for this app! read more

The BEST donuts in Ventura County! I drive from Santa Barbara to this donut shop and don't mind the drive! It's a place I will return to time and time again. My favorite donuts are the jelly-filled, old fashioned and the regular w/pink frosting & sprinkles literally melt in your mouth! Along with the tastiest goodies, the staff is the best. I can't wait for the Halloween themed donuts because they always make my family so happy. Lots of parking in the Von's parking lot as well. read more

God awful Place ordered a number three ham egg and cheese. Only had on piece of ham and a piece of cheese with greasy croissants. When I opened the croissant it did not have an egg. A very unassuming little donut shop, and the donuts were great! You would expect that late in the morning (9:00ish) the donut selection would be sparse and stale, but not here! My go to for donuts in Ventura by far has fresh and variety. Other places just stop making at like 6 or 7 and that's it. This place always has a good stock. Friendly service the donut place by Ventura high should take some notes from this shop. read more

Everything I've had here has been delicious. The customer service is great and I occasionally am gifted an extra donut, which I appreciate but my waistline doesn't. Their old fashioned donuts are off the charts good. Same with the cake donuts. And the raised. And the apple fritters. So, like I said, everything. read more

I have been going to this shop for 22 years. Ok, I understand bias, but I travel a lot and like to get doughnuts when im out of town. I have yet to find better. I cannot even stomach any commerical places now. The bear claws are my fav, nice and extra fried. the kids love the double chocholate cake and coconut glazed. Family owned (you already guessed that) and very kind and very sweet people (no pun intended). Give a try! read more

No apology from the owner or anything. Speaking of, the location is right next to a Quest Diagnostics, where elderly people need labs done. Now my mom's back has been hurting ever since. She can no longer do tasks that she did regularly.

One of my favorites is their toasted bagel with tomato, avocado, and cream cheese, it's simple and so satisfying. Next time I'll be trying one of their fruit bowls. I was not expecting it to be a plain dosa and chutney on the side. Masala dosa: this was better since it was filled with potato. Chicken sandwich: loved this, very juicy and balanced. Side of fries was excellent. The sandwich is small, just bigger than a slider. Finished in 4 bites. Fries with gunpowder: when we got this, it looks exactly like the regular fries. We figured they mustve forgot that we asked for gunpowder seasoning. We went back to ask for more seasoning, expecting them to just sprinkle it on. They were kind enough to remake it and bring it to us, which was very thoughtful. This time we could see the seasoning, but unfortunately they didn't taste any different. Don't get me wrong, the fries themselves were great- amazing crispy texture, but adding seasoning didn't do anything for them. Overall the hits were the Americano and Chicken Sandwich. Service here is fantastic, and the vibe is awesome as well. This is somewhere I'd stop for a small bite, but not the fill up.

While it can get a bit busier when the nearby church lets out, it still maintains a comfortable and laid-back vibe. It's one of our favorite spots to sit back, relax, and enjoy some quiet time together. We've also had the opportunity to try their wine, and it was a fantastic experience. It's great to have such a wonderful local business close to home, offering quality coffee and wine without the hassle of heavy traffic or large crowds. This place deserves more recognition than it gets. Although it's somewhat hidden, it's become one of our favorite places to visit, and we always look forward to coming back.

If I could leave more than five stars for Thompson Donuts, I would. They were the absolute silver lining to a miserable experience next door. If you want a great meal and a welcoming environment, skip the Subway and go straight to Thompson Donuts. Their sandwiches are massive, much more affordable, and the quality is leagues above the chain next door. Most importantly, they were incredibly friendly and fully compliant with accessibility laws. They turned a stressful afternoon around, and as a local, I can't recommend them enough. On the other hand, if I could leave zero stars for the Subway next door, I would. I visited the Subway at 2790 E Thompson Blvd on 2/8/26 with my children and my service dog, and I was flatly denied service. The manager (who called himself "Pablo" despite his name tag reading "Raul") refused to serve us because my dog wasn't wearing a vest. I calmly explained that under California and ADA law, service animals are NOT required to wear vests or carry ID. Staff are only permitted to ask two questions: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? My dog is trained for diabetic scent detection (alerting to dangerous blood sugar changes) and medical retrieval. Even when I offered to order and eat outside to avoid conflict, I was told I could not spend my money there. To make matters worse, the manager was incredibly unprofessional and intentionally gave me a false address (36 Thompson Blvd) to try and stop me from filing a formal complaint. Don't waste your time or money on a business that violates the law and treats local families with such disrespect. Go to Thompson Donuts instead--you'll get a better sandwich, a bigger meal, and you'll be supporting people who actually respect the community. read more

I preface this review with two key bits of background information: 1) I am pregnant. Thus, I suddenly find that identifying the best donut shop in town seems to be of UTMOST importance. To this end, I had my loving husband and tolerant brother drive around to several such local establishments (that I had never even previously considered patronizing) in order to collect a representative sample of (hopefully) yummy deliciousness. 2) I have ALWAYS been a fan of the obscenely sweet. I am continuously baffled by the apparent inability of Southern Californians to understand that desserts should be sugary sweet, not just somewhat vaguely sweeter than, say, wheat bread. I get/appreciate the whole healthy lifestyle thing (I was 102 lbs. before I got pregnant), but when I decide to indulge I want it to be worth my while. Ergo, if your idea of the perfect donut is "not too sweet" (in which case, what is wrong with you and why are you eating donuts in the first place???), then feel free to disregard the following donut appraisal. All that being said, Thompson Donuts came in second out of three blind taste tests in the simple glazed category. It could have used a little more glaze (as I said, I like my sweets SWEET), and the dough didn't have much flavor. It wasn't one of the best donuts I've ever had (Krispy Kreme is better, and Southern Maid in my home town is still the best), or even the best donut in Ventura (although I plan to do another taste test for the chocolate glazed category). But if you're looking for a pretty good donut in Ventura, Thompson Donuts will do. read more
