Came here yesterday as we were exploring the area (just moved here) we got coffee right across from them and decided we needed donuts. Glad we tried this place! Donuts tasted fresh and light. We got a chocolate cream filled, chocolate donut, and 2 cream cheese filled glazed. Delicious! Call me crazy but I am not a fan of rolling pin. Love me a good old fashion donut shop! It was just one man assuming the owner? He was pretty nice; running the whole place by himself. Only thing was it's cash only. read more

I love this local donut shop, and seeing the same 2 lovely ladies who have served us since 2003! Donuts are so good, and well-priced, with plenty of variety. Mostly, I think it's probably the nostalgic feeling I get when I think about bringing my son in (3-years old in 2003) back in those days, and talking with the ladies who still remember me and my son from then! read more

They open at 4 and I was the first customer. I couldn't sleep so went for a long drive which means eventually you need donuts! I got a chocolate chocolate old fashioned, a raspberry jelly, a chocolate long John, a cinnamon crumb and a cinnamon roll. All of them were light and airy, fluffy, and not greasy at all. Since it was my first time I'm happy to report that the chocolate on the long John was nice and chocolaty. I got a Diet Coke and as you probably could guess, I didn't need to eat anything the rest of the day. read more

I really wanted to be excited for a small town donut shop but things fell flat for me. The donuts just didn't even hit par, the cream filling was really bad. The eclair was not edible it was stiff and stale. Donut hole was also stale. Cash only as well.. read more

It's just another donut shop. It's conveniently open at 4 AM with the worse selection of donuts eg plain cake donuts in every flavor but nothing with frosting or sprinkles. They start making the yeast doughnuts at 6 AM but they're very stingy about it. I showed up a little after 6 AM and I was planning to order four dozen donuts but after seeing the terrible selection for the first two dozens, I stopped the lady and told her that would be all. I didn't get enough donuts for work but it's better than four dozen of the worse donuts. It's cash only. Yes, it is possible to be sad after eating a donut. Just got one thing, an APPLE FRITTER. It was soft and mushy on the outside, stale and dry inside. Moreover, the entire thing was bland. And because we paid for it, we ate it. I know, it's an unhealthy rationale. Lackluster quality aside, at least the service was very nice. Note that this place is CASH ONLY. On top of a donut, all covered with glaze, I lost my whole dollar, and walked away. I have been to a lot of donut shops in the OC. This is your very basic old school local donut shop located in an outdated strip mall housed with gems like Starbucks, Noahs and Roebucks juices in the 805. Fostars display cases were filled with colorful basics; Twists, bars, jelly's, cakes. Thats it. Nothing fancy or fluffy or OMG factored in. After staring at the old school styled treats I ordered the plainest thing, a twist. I handed the nice lady my dollar, and she gave me .15 cents back and I walked away. My twist was a little dry and disappointing. However, there is potential in their donuts. They also sell coffee, chocolate milk, plain milk, sodas, water, ect. The outdoor ambience is pretty nice. Lots of outdoor seating with a beautiful fountain overlooking a few tables. The service was good. The lady behind the counter was nice. I am very spoiled with living in the OC, and feasting on the 2014 style of doughnuts. But Ventura County still holds a special place in my heart. If you have cash on you and a sweet tooth you have to stop at Fostars. If you don't have cash on you , don't worry, go around the plaza to an atm because the charm of this small family own business is that they do not take cards. Their bavarian and bear claw donuts will blow your mind so make sure to get there early while they are peak freshness. read more

So this morning I decided to give Fostars family donuts a second chance. The first time I came in and got an apple fritter it was undercooked and oily and really nothing like an apple fritter should be. The doughnuts are glittering gems in the display. The assortment of frosted cake doughnuts are so colorful and tempting looking. But I usually get the glazed twist or the glazed old fashioned. Always good, sometimes a little oily tasting, so I give them a solid 3 stars for those pretty pretty doughnuts. Price for 1 glazed twist and 1 chocolate frosted cake doughnut: $1.30. Hardly had to dig deep for that. The extra star is for being a mom and pop business with a friendly woman behind the counter, and for there being a lush oasis of a raised planter and fountain just outside. I've never seen such a nice arrangment of greenery and cascading water outside a stripmall anywhere else in Camarillo. I uploaded a picture of it! Fo' stars for Fostar's. While I'm stuffing the doughnut in my mouth, I make sure I am staring straight at the smoothie and health food cafe across the street, so I can feel extra indulgent. It's the best donut shop I've been able to find in Camarillo. Prices are competitive. And their cream puffs are devilishly good - I try to stay away from them because they're that good! Owners are friendly and will strike up a conversation with you if they're not too busy. There's limited seating inside and a semi-common area (Starbucks') seating outside. It's usually kept pretty clean. Hard to think of why a donut shop would get dirty in the first place (except for powdered sugar, of course). Like a true donut store, they only take cash but they don't open as early as I would hope. Overall, three-stars is as much as I can give though. I'm from San Fernando Valley, where they make donuts before the butt crack of dawn and open early for fresh batches. It's truly unfortunate that there's not a better place in Camarillo. **sad face** read more

This was my second and last time at this shop. The first time was OK, not the best but it being conveniently located next to a Starbucks made me try again. This time, I found a hair in my donut. I thought maybe it was mine as I am a female with medium length hair but when I grabbed the hair, I was met with a lot of resistance, meaning it was embedded in the donut not just laying on top like it would if it were my own hair. Located in the Las Posas strip mall this unassuming little donut shop turns out some seriously decent donuts. And cheap. A jelly filled is 80 cents. And when they say filled they're not fucking around. There's an almost obscene amount of filling. Almost. They also have an impressive array of PINK donuts. I'm talking crullers, twists, glazed and cake...all in pink. When I asked why they were pink I was a little disappointed that there was actually a reason for the color. They're cherry. This is a pretty standard donut shop for the area in so many ways. It's a little, family-run place in a shopping center. It's got a pretty wide selection of donuts, but the selection looks just like all the other places -- various cake and raised donuts with the frosting changing on them. The people who run it are friendly, and chat with their customers who are often regulars. There's no bathroom, and the inside is sort of a plain, white place with a table or two. With Fostar's, this improves a little because their outdoor seating is nicer -- some wood laminate four-seat tables in a sort of green oasis on concrete. These sorts of soft, non-food qualities are some of the advantages of the place. The donuts taste good. I think that if this were more or less right next to me and I hadn't tried all the other places, I might be stopping in here pretty often. However, donuts basically always taste good. They're donuts. The baking is noticeably better than some of the not-so-great donut shops I've tried. It's reliable in terms of all the pieces, but still a big step down on taste from Rolling Pin Donuts. read more

Old school donut shop. Got a round glazed donut around 930am. Tasted like it was supposed to taste. Delicious. Don't know what all the bad reviews are about. .seems like yelp is full of whiners. Yes no credit cards..because it's a small business and I'd imagine the fees are a bit steep for 85 cent charges. Grab some change out of your cup holder and stop being a baby. And yes no fancy "foodie" donuts. Some things don't need to change. Liked it better than the Rolling Pin. read more

Ok, I can't really tell you much about the donuts because I came in at about 8:30pm and there were only about 20 donuts left in the case. I bought a chocolate bar only because I am a pig. It was dried out. I am sure it would have been much tastier earlier in the day. But the lady behind the counter was friendly. I believe by the few donuts that were left, that the donuts are good otherwise there would have been many more left in the case. Makes sense huh? I'll be back one day in the morning. read more

I have been coming here for nearly 20 years, since I was just a child. Even though I do not live here anymore, anytime I drive through Camarillo I always make sure to stop in for their amazing sprinkled donut holes, (both rainbow and chocolate). This one is the one next to Ralph's right? I came here to give myself a treat.........and a donut is what I got. I got some creampuffs and a jelly filled. They were all right. The Asian lady owner was pretty nice, not very nice like Kim's donut. The donuts were not as good as Kim's donut too. But they satisfied by craving. I don't think I'll go back though. read more

Put in an order for 100+ donuts on Easter last minute. They were very accommodating and the donuts were fresh and everyone loved them! I don't usually like the standard cake donut but they make a good one. They also make delicious custard filled cream puffs. Every shop has their hits and duds. Also keep in mind donuts are usually made in the early morning and if you want the freshest get it before noon. I've even had stale donuts at Krispy Kreme so know when to buy! read more

Donut shops give that feel good nostalgia of waking up as a kid and knowing if your parents will budge to get donuts then the weekend is glorious. As an adult I try to stay away from donuts but sometimes when the urge hits you have to go grab one. I've had this spot bookmarked for a while now in Newbury Park mainly because they have the cutest decorated donuts here. Definitely picture worthy and fun for the kids. They seem to have different themes and styles. Would be great for parties. I stumbled in this morning and grabbed a few of my favorites. Some of the classics - sprinkles, maple, chocolate glaze. I saved the fun hello kitty and baseball donuts for the kids who would be sure to come by later. Four donuts for $7. A little over $1.50 each ain't bad. Donuts are made with love and the lady (Judy?) working behind the counter was very nice. The shop is small where you grab the donuts when then there is a nice little bend with some seats and tables. Happy a place like Newbury has this cute little donut shop.

When I was there, it was mid afternoon (before closing) so it was calmer all around. I love their pastries, but the recent price increases do make them a luxury item. Kouign Amann are my fave, but any of their croissants are also great. Had a Hot chocolate at the Camarillo location, and they even had a little latte art in the milk foam. Server was much more talkative and friendly because it wasn't crowded when I went. In general I felt a friendlier warm vibe compared to Ventura location, but either one is great for classic European vibe, and great pastries.

Huge kudos to Ashley for recommending their breakfast crepe (not something I'd normally order, but WOW was it good). BREAKFAST CREPE: A fluffy crepe filled with soft, melty brie, eggs, bacon, arugula and tomatoes, absolutely delicious and so well balanced. I'd get this again in a heartbeat. 10/10 ICED MATCHA: Washed it all down with a sweet iced matcha, just how I like it...lightly sweet, a little creamy, and still packing that earthy matcha flavor. 8/10.
