When I was there, it was mid afternoon (before closing) so it was calmer all around. I love their pastries, but the recent price increases do make them a luxury item. Kouign Amann are my fave, but any of their croissants are also great. Had a Hot chocolate at the Camarillo location, and they even had a little latte art in the milk foam. Server was much more talkative and friendly because it wasn't crowded when I went. In general I felt a friendlier warm vibe compared to Ventura location, but either one is great for classic European vibe, and great pastries. read more

Stopped here on the way to Santa Barbara and got a vanilla oat latte, drip coffee, and their ham and cheese croissant. The latte was delicious, it was really the perfect ratio of milk, espresso, and syrup. They use verve coffee beans so it's good quality coffee! Arrived on a Thursday morning about 9:30am...the place is packed...which is a good sign. I came get a good breakfast as I was hungry...when I came in the first thing I see is the coffee and tea menu and a few bread items in the bakery window. First and last time visiting this location. Normally, we love Cafe Ficelle. But today we ordered the Croque Monsieur sandwiches and they both disappointed. The first thing we noticed is that they tasted like they were on day-old bread. Completely stale. (Not surprisingly or coincidentally, they do sell some day-old baked goods.) As for the bechamel sauce, it was non-existent. When we asked if they forgot to put on the sauce, they said that they do put it on the sandwiches. But clearly that was not the case today. As a result, the sandwiches were completely dry. When asked if we could get a side of the sauce, they said yes, but it would be cold, is that OK? Obviously not. The server was kind enough to offer to replace the items, but by that time we were almost done with the disappointing food and, frankly, we did not have confidence in any other dish. On top of that, we added the egg to one of the sandwiches and noticed we were charged $1 more than the price posted on the menu. As for portion size, the sandwiches were small. Given the price, we thought that we could probably split one, but that was not the case. We also had to go back inside because our coffee was not delivered to us. When I inquired about it, the server said oh, it's over there, on the counter. Nobody related to us that we pick up our coffee at the counter, even though the rest of the meal is served outside. So the coffee was sitting there for 10 minutes or more . They didn't even offer to bring it to us. How long would it have stayed there if we hadn't gone inside? As for the ambience on the patio, there is none. Not even the nice touch of music overhead could distract from the freeway sounds. Of course, not much they can do about that, but it is something to consider if you want a nice outdoor experience. The one thing they did have control over was cleaning the tables. But from the time we arrived to the time right before we left, the same dirty dishes sat on the same tables, even though it was not busy inside or outside. For the prices this place charges, you should expect more and they should deliver more. Your money is better spent elsewhere. Glad I only used a gift card. read more

Really enjoyed their matcha latte here! It was the first nicely sweetened matcha I've had which had a good flavor but wasn't overly sweet after asking for sweetener. Staff was very helpful in recommendations and when I asked for the wifi: espresso. Super cute cafe perfect for brunch, a quick chat, or to get work done. Two hours into our drive back to LA, and we were met by a sea of brake lights all aglow -- the 101 Fwy is backed up (as expected) -- and a good excuse to pull over for a quick break, which made La Ficelle in Camarillo the perfect stop. I've been to their much larger location in Ventura, so its familiar nameplate was a welcome sight. Nibbles for this afternoon were Kouign-Amann and Pain au Chocolat, and espresso (of course!). The former pastry is the delectable meeting between a buttery croissant and a glaze of caramelized sugar - with the unexpected pinch of salt on top to balance out the sweetness. Superb! And of course, Pain au Chocolat pairs perfectly with the espresso -- its bitter notes cutting through the buttery, flaky layers. Sweetness from the chocolate -- and the contrasting bitterness was great for the late afternoon's cool down. I'd love to rate this place a 5, but the outside patio's floor was an unattended collection of today's menus, attracting birds, that made me think back to St. Mark's Square, with birds gathering around discarded food. Cafe Ficelle is just so adorable. I come here to get quality coffee whenever I come to visit my parents in Camarillo. Normally I get an iced long black (yum) or a oat milk cortado (also yum). This time I decided to get one of their Pour Over options, specifically the Guatemala. It was full bodied and delicious. They also have bread, tons of pastries, and a breakfast cafe menu with a decent variety. I recommend the avocado toast! The people there are kind as well. My daughter ordered a chocolate croissant and while she was looking at the options and asking questions the woman at the counter was very polite and answered the questions that my 7 year old had.
