I always love supporting small businesses, and K D Donuts definitely deserves the love! I first heard about this place through my coworkers. One person brought in donuts from Rolling Pin Donuts, while another brought donuts from K D Donuts. To my surprise, almost everyone reached for the K D Donuts first! Before work, I decided to pick up two dozen donuts for my team. Within 30 minutes, they were nearly all gone. That alone says a lot! These donuts honestly have a slight edge over Rolling Pin Donuts, which has always been one of my favorite donut shops. Even one of my coworkers, who normally doesn't eat donuts, ended up eating two! She pointed out that they didn't have that greasy taste or overly sweet aftertaste--and I completely agree. The donuts were fresh, light, flavorful, and clearly a hit with the entire team. K D Donuts is officially one of my new favorite spots, and I'll definitely be coming back. Donuts matter to me. I mean, like, a lot. Maybe too much. They're pretty much on my mind all the time. I don't really care about Politics. I care even less about Sports. What I care about is Donuts. And I'm here to tell you, these are the Best Donuts in Ventura. I've been a customer here for 24 years now. In that time I've sampled donuts from more than a dozen other places around town and I've never found any better than the donuts from KD Donuts. The donuts here are far superior to Rolling Pin. I'll die on that hill. And don't come at me with Krispy Kreme or any other corporate junk, because hell nah. This is a local, family owned and run business.. As to why I say these are the Best Donuts in Ventura: The benchmark I use for comparing donuts is a white cake donut with chocolate icing, topped with sprinkles. Whenever I hit up a new donut shop, that's the first thing I try. The one they sell here reigns Supreme! Other highly recommended donuts here are the Apple Fritters, the Buttermilk Bars and the Old Fashioned (Chocolate, Glazed or Plain). I like that the donuts here are traditional donuts. The kind you can take a dozen of to work with you and you can be sure everyone will love. None of that $5/donut ridiculousness over here. Most here are $1.75, including Small Apple Fritters and Small Cinnamon Rolls. The large size of the fritters and cinnamon rolls, along with the Blueberry Fritter, Bear Claws and Filled Donuts will set you back $2.75 each. That's fair! GETTING HERE: Located on Telegraph Road, next door to DV's Mexican Grill. REVIEW: If you know, you know. Am I right? I am hit and miss with donuts, but since I am a frequent customer of the business located next door, I knew that on my most recent trip I had to stock up on some yummy donuts from KD's. Unfortunately, I don't have a comparison visit prior to c 1 9. Presently, there is a small area inside if you wanted to stay to snack, but for myself I placed my order to-go. Also, they have a drive-up! For donuts! Can you imagine? Next time I will do a drive-through to get my fresh donuts. I got a variety of items because donuts. We had absolutely no idea that KD Donuts would totally ruin us for other donuts... forever. We had one of those crazy moves, and needed a whole bunch of donuts for the whole bunch of people who helped us. KD was near our new place, so we bought about five dozen assorted. We never even had to get out of the car which was great because at 7am, we were already exhausted. The box they came in wasn't printed with a name, but all the local movers knew they were KD just from the insanely fresh delicousness. One bite and we were instant believers, too. My friend and I decided to do a taste comparison of maple bars and glazed donuts of two local donut spots. We randomly chose KD Village Donuts and Sun Village Donuts. The difference: APPEARANCE: SV- fresher looking & perky, maple was not as thick as KD. Normal size KD - droopy (could be because of the weight/size), maple was thicker on donut, very big TASTE: SV: buttery, maple tasted the same on both KD: you can taste the oils aftertaste, and it was a little crispy outside because of the oil FLUFFLINESS/DENSITY: SV: lighter and less dense KD: slightly dense SWEETNESS: SV: Less sweet than KD, still sweet. KD: very sweet, especially the glaze. Every restaurant and eatery I know of has experienced a big increase in prices over the last five years, but KD's prices are not as shocking as many places, and their donuts are awesome! Their raised donuts have a light, pillowy texture that keeps people coming back for more. They didn't have a huge selection when I went there around noon, but that's to be expected. My donuts were cold, and they were definitely not fresh. I threw them away. Yuck. I'd recommend Thompson Donuts by Vons better. They're much nicer there, too. Also, if you have a service animal, don't come here. I heard the lady tell someone, "don't bring your animal here.... Go, go, go!" Just an FYI unless you can do the drive thru to avoid this.
