What I care about is Donuts. And I'm here to tell you, these are the Best Donuts in Ventura. I've been a customer here for 24 years now. In that time I've sampled donuts from more than a dozen other places around town and I've never found any better than the donuts from KD Donuts. The donuts here are far superior to Rolling Pin. I'll die on that hill. And don't come at me with Krispy Kreme or any other corporate junk, because hell nah. This is a local, family owned and run business.. As to why I say these are the Best Donuts in Ventura: The benchmark I use for comparing donuts is a white cake donut with chocolate icing, topped with sprinkles. Whenever I hit up a new donut shop, that's the first thing I try. The one they sell here reigns Supreme! Other highly recommended donuts here are the Apple Fritters, the Buttermilk Bars and the Old Fashioned (Chocolate, Glazed or Plain). I like that the donuts here are traditional donuts. The kind you can take a dozen of to work with you and you can be sure everyone will love. None of that $5/donut ridiculousness over here. Most here are $1.75, including Small Apple Fritters and Small Cinnamon Rolls. The large size of the fritters and cinnamon rolls, along with the Blueberry Fritter, Bear Claws and Filled Donuts will set you back $2.75 each. That's fair! There was a woman behind me that told me this has been her favorite donut place in Ventura and has been coming here for 20 yrs. The cashier confirmed it been the same owner for 20 yrs. I got a maple bar and a chocolate old fashion. As other comments have said, these donuts do not have that strange oil aftertaste that some shops do. They are also sweet but not overly sweet. Maple bars will always own my heart so it was my favorite of the two but the chocolate old fashion was also really tasty. Both were soft and freshly baked tasting. They had some really large donuts and specialty ones but you can't go wrong with a basic maple bar or old fashion. Yes, the donuts are going to cost you $2.50+ per donut but just like everything going up in price, it's only expected that a small donut shop ought to do the same.
