I bought my staff an assortment of glaze, strawberry filled donuts, twists, and the long ones (lol) I got one for myself, and holy cow their maple old fashioned is a 10/10!! The inside isn't too doughy, the outside is perfectly crunchy but not super hard, and that's really hard to do lol most old fashion donuts miss the mark for sure. I bit one of the "long John's" and ahhhh SO FLUFFY. Price: 4/5 For 1 dozen it was $19.25 with using card. I feel like that is a bit much for 12 donuts; in LA I get a dozen for 15. . but everything is expensive now. So, it is what it is! lol. All around: 5/5 I will definitely come back. These donuts are simply thick and fluffy which composes a delicious donut they have a ton of variety and even have some specialty ones from time to time. It's easy for me to get off on the avenue when I come down from Santa Barbara because they're right off the exit across Burger King in the parking lot. The only complaint I've ever had is I had to give up on a new favorite donut that I once tried on their recommendation because they always ran out of them before I came in, regardless of the time of morning. To people who complain that businesses charge a fee to pay with your cards: Grow up. Cards aren't money, and businesses pay a fee to the banks to process your card transactions. Don't like it? I love the donuts that are made here at Cathy's shop. First of all the actually cook their donuts so they are nice and brown. SO MANY other donut shops serve a half cooked mess. Not here. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Love everything I have ordered here especially the cinnamon donuts. Best donut shop in the area. I think one of the keys is always to use clean oil or donut fry if that is what is used. A lot of other donut shops use the oil until it tastes rancid. Awful! Stopped by for the first time due to my son wanting a chocolate sprinkle donut. The owner was the sweetest person you can meet, and we explained how our other donut shop didn't have the donuts he usually likes and she even had my son pick any sprinkle he wanted and let him have it for free....seriously who in the hell does that nowadays?? I was inclined to purchase two dozen for my staff which they all seemed to enjoy better than our regular donut shop and now we are customers for life... Stopped here after surfing with team and friends on Sunday. Above average donuts for a reasonable price. They are donuts and are good here. The place is relatively clean, but though not really their fault, this parking lot is overrun with homeless guys who are a bit aggressive in their panhandling. Look I get it that many of these guys have fallen on hard times and all, but why is it my problem to solve their problem. The owners here accommodate these people as best they can but Ventura Police Department, please realize that these business owners pay your salaries and as a result deserve some decent coverage. Do us all a favor and move these aggressive panhandlers into a shelter, into an asylum, or send them to do an honest days work for honest pay, or just send them on their way, so this nice family that owns this place can make a living like the rest of us. They have a private parking lot with abundant parking, but as already mentioned, it is overrun with idiots who just let go on life for various reasons I am sure; none of which are the fault of the average customer or this nice family running this business. Definitely Avenue Donuts has a lot of local following and there would have to be a good reason for that. However, personally, on my first visit, I didn't really find the place above average. It is your standard donut shop. The donuts themselves are also average. The dough is light and good, but the glazing is more sugar than the suggested flavor (i.e. you could hardly taste the chocolate.) It is a good place to satisfy your donut craving; but I think there are other places where it would more than hit the spot. read more

I preface this review with two key bits of background information: 1) I am pregnant. Thus, I suddenly find that identifying the best donut shop in town is of UTMOST importance. To this end, I had my loving husband and tolerant brother drive around to several such local establishments (that I had never even previously considered patronizing) in order to collect a representative sample of (hopefully) yummy deliciousness. 2) I have ALWAYS been a fan of the obscenely sweet. I am continuously baffled by the apparent inability of Southern Californians to understand that desserts should be sugary sweet, not just somewhat vaguely sweeter than, say, wheat bread. I get/appreciate the whole healthy lifestyle thing (I was 102 lbs. before I got pregnant), but when I decide to indulge I want it to be worth my while. Ergo, if your idea of the perfect donut is "not too sweet" (in which case, what is wrong with you and why are you eating donuts in the first place???), then feel free to disregard the following donut appraisal. All that being said, Avenue Donuts had the best donut (simple glazed) out of three blind taste tests (it was the only one I actually wanted to finish). My only criticism is that it could have used a little more glaze (as I said, I like my sweets SWEET). The dough had a delicious donut flavor, and the glaze was yummy, if somewhat scant. Was it the best donut I've ever had? Not by a long shot (Krispy Kreme is better, and Southern Maid in my home town is still the best). But if you're looking for a good donut in Ventura, Avenue Donuts is a good call. read more

Absolutely the BEST donuts in Ventura! Do yourself a favor and stop in here the next time you need some sugary fried carbs- you will not regret it. The donuts are all made fresh, in house, every morning- and they are cooked right, crispy on the outside, and cooked thru- no undercooked, doughy insides here! There is a wide selection of flavors and styles, and everything I've tried is great. My personal favorites are the apple fritters, and the old-fashioned/buttermilk donuts, I'm pretty sure these should be illegal. The lady who runs the shop, Cathy, is always friendly and gives prompt service with a smile, even when she's swamped on the weekend. Everything is priced well here, even the milk/juice in the coolers; I get a large coffee for 2 bucks here, and it's good. Pro tip: they have 'donut happy hour', and it's buy one get one free after 4 pm.
