After dropping off my car, they let me know a timeline of the couple things that I should get fixed (from low priority to high priority). I was very pleased to know the same recommendations that Sun Devil Auto made, our family auto repair guy suggested them as well. The pricing was fair, and they provided financing options that don't involve opening an additional line of credit. Every time my wife and I brought in our car to have its oil changed the mechanic would discover something wrong with either the radiator hoses, or the engine mount, or an oil gasket was leaking... It was repair this and that ad infinitum. Fortunately, I decided to independently verify all of these things before getting our 07 Chevy Impala overhauled by Sun Devil. Actually, the irony is, we took it to Big-o, who said they spotted a leak from a manifold head gasket. Sun Devil never mentioned that. (We too had that independently verified. And sure enough, there was a major issue that costs thousands of dollars, having just exceeded our warranty.) From this experience, my inferences conclude me to assume that the modi operandi here is mostly guesswork. They seem more interested in nickel and diming its customers, which is something that many mechanics do, even Big-o (whose services I have also eschewed). I have been a loyal costumer to sun devil for over a decade now. Unfortunately, it is time to take my loyalty elsewhere. I took my disel in for a basic oil change and top to bottom inspection for a cross country 1500 mile road trip that I was about to take. They came back with that I needed a new radiator system and quoted me $1400. I took my truck for a second opinion to Crawford auto, who also did a full vehicle inspection... And said and I quote "i wish I could tell you your truck needed service because that's the business were in..but it doesn't. Your vehicle is in perfect working order. I would have no problem taking it cross country". Crawford had the perfect opportunity and setup to confirm its need for a new radiator system and quote me a little less to ensure my business with them. I did communicate exactly what sun devil said and quoted as well as showed them in the system exactly what they showed me. They were LOOKING for the problem!!! And still NOTHING!! Sun devil auto are thieves! They take advantage when they see opportunity to. Then conduct high pressure sales as they told me that I should think twice about driving my truck off their lot without getting the repair done. That I could blow my engine at the next stop light. A pretty bold statement considering the truck checked out PERFECTLY the next day elsewhere? Do not go here... On a side note, since the owner called my husband offended that I called them asshats on Yelp. I did them the service of removing it. Regarding your comment: nice back stroke sun devil! The guys who work here are always polite &friendly and they don't PUSH you to get other things fixed on your car, they simply inform you of a few things (if any) and give you an estimate should you decide to go through them. I'm new to the area and nobody was able to give me a recommendation, so Yelp to the rescue! Sun Devil Auto at the corner of McClintock and E. Elliot is great! I really know my car and I went in for a basic oil change, tire rotation, fluid top off before heading out of the area on about a 400 mile trip. I knew what they should come back suggesting in terms of additional work I might consider doing on the car and I knew just how urgent the work in question *isn't*! lol They came back mentioning just the things I already knew about, were honest that my car is perfectly safe and that the repairs in question are just something I'll want to take care of at some point...but there's no urgency about any of them. Big points right there. They caught all my cars little problem areas and were straight with me. That's HUGE from an auto shop. (At least in my book!) I had an appointment - something I suggest to one and all whether you're *just* after an oil change or your car is needing to spend more time at the car doctor. They're kept busy and yet it was clear that they are still being thorough and taking appropriate time tending to each customer's car. They got my car back right on time and it was done in about 45 minutes. The "front desk Daves" were both really friendly and I ended up having a lovely chat with one of them while I waited on my car. They honored an online coupon I'd found even though I'd been unable to print it out per the instructions! I had all my fluids topped off, my oil changed, and they rotated my tires - I was out the door for under $23.00! That's QUITE the deal. (Oil changes are typically more like $40 and it's usually another ten bucks or so to rotate tires.) I had the opportunity to listen to the Dave I hadn't been in conversation with talk with a woman about the problems they'd found with her vehicle and she needed it all broken down and explained in "bite-sized" chunks in order to be comfortable and make decisions about what work she wanted them to do. (She'd brought the car in because it was having some troubles and Dave was going over what they'd found and the estimates for the work the shop suggested be done.) I thought his explanations were *fantastic*. He made the whole thing very accessible for her and she was clearly at ease when deciding what to do. They get a lot of credit from me for that. A lot of shops lack the ability to explain complicated car problems to non-car savvy people...and even if they've got the skill, they so often lack the patience! This leaves customers really wondering if they're doing the right thing agreeing to put all this money into fixing things they don't exactly understand. Good Job, Sun Devil Auto! I also got to overhear the Dave I did spend time talking with "breaking the important news" over the phone to someone that their car repairs had come in a couple hundred dollars UNDER what had been quoted...so they have a sense humor, to boot! The only thing they didn't do that I'm sort of used to places doing when they do an oil change was vacuum out my car, but at $22 and some change - a timely but thorough job - a totally pleasant experience - and where NO attempt was made to talk me into additional things not necessary - I'm NOT really complaining. I can vac my own car! lol There folks do about every kind of work on cars/trucks/vans imaginable. The only things they don't really do is much in the way of body work or upholstery. I only went in for something very basic, but after having the experience I had and getting to see their employees interact with customers whose cars had bigger problems, I wouldn't hesitate bringing my car here again...be it for the maintenance they suggested that does need to be done at some point or for something far more major. Car overheated on the freeway and a few things went wrong at once. After I had it towed to the Tempe location, they put in a new radiator which had cracked during the overheating, thermostat which got shot in the process, hoses, system flush and a new battery with a 5 year free battery warranty for just 800 and that was without coupons etc. read more

This place is awesome. No bullshit. Went there to have my brakes checked and possibly replaced. My brakes were making a slight noise. They took the car, checked the brakes and were completely honest with me. My brakes were only 10 to 15 percent worn. And they informed me the noise was caused from dust. I doubt any other brake place would be this honest. They did tell me they could clean them with brake cleaner, for 30 but they weren't pushy about it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. read more

I've been taking my vehicles to Sun Devil Auto on Elliot Rd for several years. Two services ago I had the oil change in my 2009 truck and they pointed out the unusual wear on my front tires. I choose to have it aligned closer to my home. The next time I changed the oil they noted on the receipt the tires were rotated, but clearly they hadn't. Yesterday I took my wife's car in for an oil change. Just to check on them I marked the tires so I could clearly see if they were rotated. After the service their paperwork indicated the tires were rotated, but again they clearly we not. When we leave our vehicles for service anywhere it's a leap of faith they will be trustworthy and do what they say they will do or have done. Before I left the area I pulled the dip stick just to check if there was clean oil on it. I fell fortunate they at least changed the oil. Now I have to find another shop to get my repair work down because the trust I'm looking for isn't at this business. The only plus (besides actually changing my oil) was the support and confidence the manager had for his employee saying he did the work. I guess loyalty between workers is a good thing even in an untrustworthy place. read more

Was referred to this shop by a friend. I was very impressed with Chris's "can-do" attitude and relaxed demeanor. Unexpected car problems can be so stressful and Chris was very attentive and actually listened to what I said in regards to the car's issues. Chris sorted out a free tow from across town and kept me up to date on the status of my car. Sun Devil Auto diagnosed the problem with my clutch for FREE. The quote I received was about $500 less than what another shop quoted. I had also been quoted for a radiator replacement due to "discoloration"- SDA took the time to look up my radiator and determined it was just the actual color of the radiator and it didn't need to be replaced yet. They informed me about what needs to be done next as well, so I can prepare accordingly. They quoted a few other things for me and they all fell lower than 3 other independent shops in town. I'm blown away with the care and detail they provide for their customers at such a competitive rate. They also serviced my brakes for an incredibly competitive rate. Sun Devil guests have included our personal vehicles, and those of my parents, my siblings and friends.... Depending on our needs, we have occasionally popped in for a quick fix - blinker bulb or fuse; have also dropped vehicles off with a "pls look at litany of items". No job is to big or small, but what is truly great is the communication between Sun Devil Team ( I usually talk to Dave) and customer during the process - "here's what we got, recommendations, costs". No hard sale. This time, took 2001 jeep in for check-up. Told Dave the young lady with me (our 16 yr old) would be primary driver. Dave promised he'd look it over as he would for his daughter. Needed tie rods replaced and an axle boot along w/ minor maitenance. Big item - new tires. Sun Devil took care of physical vehicle, rumbled down road got new tires. This place is terrible at diagnosing problems, and the front staff is annoyingly condescending. I bought a car battery there 1 year ago and it died last weekend (that was the 3rd time they pro-rated the original battery I got there--they all only lasted 1 year.) I took the car back to Sun Devil Auto so they could check it out. After awhile the guy told me "we've tested and tested it and the battery is absolutely fine. Something must be drawing from your battery when the car's not running." So I brought the car to my mechanic so he could check out that possibility. He tested everything he could think of and decided to try and put a new battery in. The car is running great. I will NEVER go to this place again. read more

Friendly, fast service and they don't skip a beat. Quality care. I have very high mileage on my Kia Soul and they did not try over sell me when just getting an oil change. Also thought my brakes were in need of replacement and they could have lied and said yes but they did not. I have gotten my car fixed by this location recently. After doing additional research by getting a mechanic friend to look at my car. And he told me what needed to be done. When I told them this they said to check it out. The work I needed done should have cost a total of 300 max from parts and labor but then they happened to added other major charges that did not need to be done. After the work was done I got a list of everything done and having to pay 850 later I realized this place rips people off. I've called a few places to check on prices and figured out sun devil auto price gauges 4 to 5 times more than so many other places for the same work. Amco charges 30 for transmission flush I was charged 120. And more just like that. Highly recommend going other places first before falling for there shit there. Don't fall for the free tow. best of luck. Doubt u can get your money back or free services from them to offset the way over charge but I'm sure u can find actual real prices from other places rather than being over charged at this place. read more

I stopped by this morning to get air in my tires. They had just opened and all the bays were full. I thought to myself... "damn, I hope they'll do me a solid and just give me some air." It was raining sheets at the time. I pulled up to the second bay and out comes Chase--my tire-filling angel. He filled all my tires with a huge smile on his face while getting soaking wet. It really made my morning. My wife took all the cash out of my wallet so I couldn't tip him, but I doubt he would have taken it anyway. I was there last Monday 9/19/16. My car had over heated because it turns out the radiator cap was so loose I had spilled out half the coolant. The first phone call I received explaining what needed to be done was by "Dave" the manager. If you come into contact with him or his shadow run, everything coming out of their mouth is a lie. I was told I needed a new radiator, 3 new hoses and a temperature gage. All for the low, low price of $918.00!!!!!!!!! After telling them no way and getting a second opinion from an amazing shop on Arizona Ave I bought myself a new radiator cap for $7.00 and my car is running as good as new. STAY AWAY ladies from Sun Devil nothing but a rip off!!!! Also when I got there to pick up my car they wouldn't put the supposed diagnosis in writing, maybe because it was a bunch of crap. The person comes to install it and he tells me the windshield is in but no molding was given to him or ordered. He advised them he needed the molding and was sent out anyway. Stopped into Sun Devil after a recommendation from my mom when I needed to have a connector to my battery looked at, and a standard oil change. First of all, right away they were super welcoming and friendly. I could tell when I walked in that they were definitely busy because almost all of the lifts were full, and the parking lot was almost totally full, but I came in with my car without an appointment, they didn't make it seem like it was an inconvenience (which I have experienced at other places when I have come in during busy times). They gave me an estimated hour wait for my car to be finished, and it was done in a little over 40 minutes! The waiting area had current reading material, and there was complimentary coffee. I am used to paying nearly $50 for my oil changes at Jiffy Lube...I know nothing about cars, so I will openly admit now that I was sucked into their marketing and seeing them all over town. I was literally SHOCKED when it only cost me $17.03 for them to fix the part on my battery, and for my oil change (this was after the $5 Yelp check-in discount). Definitely will be a longtime customer after today's experience...I highly suggest taking your car here. They are friendly, honest, reasonable and really put the customer first! read more

We'll see what else happens after getting my truck back(if anything else comes up), originally only went for the oil change. Asked for some things to be looked at and possibly get then care of. I know I did not have a crack in my windshield before entering for repairs however less than a mile drive away from what was originally intended to be an oil change and noticed a 7in crack in the windshield on the driver side. A quick eye ball of the damage and am given a "yup that's a rock chip".. I just worked a14hr shift at the hospital and stayed for 3 1/2 hrs and paid hundreds of dollars with no crack in my windshield when I arrived. Previously chose to come to this shop based on review and have heard of friends going to other locations. Staff member at desk very professional though staff that inspect damage gave the professional S.O.L and advised to call insurance. I just had to walk away because I'm lacking patience and am beyond irritated that I chose this shop to pay hundreds to make repairs. Not even a let me see what we can do for you since you paid quite a bit of money here. Straight to your f****, call insurance and feel free to bring back for another fix. Like damn this is how your expecting to retain business. Not this vehicle owner and can be sure Ill detour others from this company. read more

Can I give a Place no Stars , because that is what this place deserves, they suck NEVER NEVER NEVER go here. I got my A/C fixed and paid 1300 to replace my entire A/C components on my truck in july 2008. In less than a year later, It's broke again (April 2009). They said it was a valve that went out which they replaced. So, they replace that for free. Now, less than a year later again after April 2009 that it's broke in March 2010. It does not work again. In less than 2 year period, my ac on my truck has broke twice since I got it all replaced. They want to charge me to get it fixed now that the 12 month warranty is over. To top it off they retro fitted my High pressure line with the wrong valve and told me they could not fix that and admitted to putting the wrong valve on it. So, I could not fill is up with Freon to see where it is leaking. I had to buy 60 dollars with of part at auto zone to fix it. It's ridiculous that I paid for my A/C on my truck to be replaced and it breaks every year. Bad. I've used Sun Devil multiple times and always have a bad experience. This last time I went is the last time. They keep my car all day every time and never call me with an update or letting me know they'll have to keep my car over night, never let me know of the work that needs to be done or price in anyway before hand, and I can't help but feel I'm always over charged. I personally live by reviews of places across the board. I have gone to numerous places to have my oil changed since moving here over 2 years ago. No other place has compared and it's safe to say this location will be my location for car maintenance going forward. Even prior to moving here this was the first time someone sat down with me after my oil change and went through the little things they noticed that would need to be worked on potentially in the future. We went over the highest priorities as well and i was given quotes for those highest priorities to know what I'd be getting into.
