Typically I do my own work, but when I don't have the time I will take a vehicle to a garage. I have not had a great experience at Sun Devil Auto. I had some work done on one vehicle over the summer. Original work was completed, then it was 4 trips back to the shop. After replacing every part in the particular system, it works now. In addition, the basic protocol seems to be replace parts until a problem resolves. Recently, I thought I would give them one more shot. A different vehicle this time. Again, every part in the system was replaced. The vehicle leaked fluid on the way home. Steering wheel drifted left and right. 1 trip back to the shop at their expense via tow truck. Then, same vehicle, the idle was also high/erratic and told it will settle down, never did. Coolant was way low and it is the wrong kind for the vehicle. I did not take it back and will never return to Sun Devil Auto. There was other work performed on this vehicle and now I'm questioning all of it. read more

Took my car in because it was making some cracking and popping noises. Thought it might be the tranny or the front suspension. They called me after having the for 6 hours and said it needed struts. They said it would be $1335 which I later found out is about $400 more than it should be.I had them do the work and got the car back. It still makes all the same noises it did before the work was done. Turns out the tranny really is bad. I guess they figured if they told me it was the tranny I wouldn't get it fixed so they got me for 1335 for the front end instead. If you use this place make sure you get a second opinion. read more

I went into this place on August 1st to get my ac repaired. Now I'm not an auto expert, but thankfully my father taught me the basics. I knew my blower motor had gone bad but in this weather I'm not gonna lie I got a little lazy and I didn't want to replace it myself. But then Roussell who I imagine is a manager quoted me $730 to fix my blower motor under the guise of "you can only get the part through the manufacture". He also said it was two weeks out. I went to Mazda's part store website and a new blower motor cost $168. Wait it gets better. I went to Autozone and they had that exact part in stock! 2 clips and 3 screws isnt $500 in labor. You're robbing people blind during a pandemic. Update for the reply: I bought it from Mazda's part store. How is that in any way low quality? Not to mention I'm almost positive the the ac recharge I paid for wasn't done. My car's ac is hissing being starved from freon. People, please don't go here. On top of this, over the course of the one day I left my car here they killed my car battery. So not only was my freon not refilled (if so poorly) but I had to replace my battery when just 24 hours prior it was running smooth. I encourage you to find another shop or if it's a basic fix do it yourself. I promise you will save a lot of money and your car will be in better condition. read more

You usually don't expect such high ratings for a car service place. I called to make an appointment and the young gentleman that took my call was so polite. I got my oil changed a few days later. They were super polite in the shop, made some recommendations for the future, and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. Definitely will be back for all my future car needs. read more

It was about time I wrote up a review for Sun Devil Auto. I see that they are always busy and the reason I know they don't have any Yelp reviews is because they happen to be near a lot of mobile homes and senior communities. There are A LOT of thank you notes and letters in their shop though, rather than internet reviews. :D I've taken all of my cars there and let's just say I have not had one bad experience. Every time I come out and think to myself, "It was cheaper than I had originally thought!" which is a very good thing. Chrysler 300's are notorious for this little pink plastic piece breaking in the gear change assembly. The car wouldn't shift out of park. Reading up on it on the internet, my dad and I thought we could do it our selves. We did manage to fix it, but then the key wouldn't come out of the ignition. After a while, I decided to take it to Sun Devil and they could have charged me for a couple hundred bucks. Instead, they showed integrity and told me one part had been put back together wrong, and said they would only charge for the labor of taking it apart and putting it back together. They ended charging me less than twenty dollars even though they had spent considerable amount of time on it. Honestly, they could have charged me two hundred bucks and I wouldn't have been the wiser. I take all my cars here for the oil changes and they never try to sell you air filters and belts that every other oil change place seem to do. Another good example of their stand-up service is how they always give you a ride to and from if need be. One time I was there, a couple from another state were having trouble with their van/RV and they stopped by Sun Devil Auto for some help. The staff was friendly enough to take them to the nearby laundromat so they could do their laundry while they waited for their car to be fixed! It's too bad I moved to North Phoenix though, I'm too far away now! read more

A friend told me this place does oil changes for 19.95. It's by my house so I decided to try it out. I get there and they are like oh your going to need full synthetic oil (which everywhere else says semi synthetic) that's going to be 55 with tax which is more than Wal-Mart or my normal place in Tempe that charges me 24.95 but is a bit of a drive for me. Save yourself the time and go elsewhere, the coupon is just to get you in the door. read more

I went to Sun Devil on Baseline in Gilbert for a wheel alignment for my Dodge 3500 truck. I got a quote for $83.70 to complete the job. I got a call later stating that they could not complete the job because of "worn out front end parts". I was then given a quote for worn ball joints and noise in the hub bearings costing in excess of $2000. I picked up my truck and took it to Network Alignment who informed me that the bearings were fine and the ball joints were in "great shape". Sun Devil also tried to sell me other items such as cooling system flush, power steering fluid flush and transmission flush. All these items were done according to my service records and did not need further attention. I am very disappointed with Sun Devil as I have used them in the past but will will no longer go to them for any service repairs and will not recommend them to anyone who does not want to be ripped off. They have been timely, the prices were spot on & their staff took the extra time to make sure all the necessary repairs were done without nickle and diming me for any possible repair they can find. Mid 2012 Sun Devil recommended my 5 year old AC needed replacement. Well trusting them (Sun Devil), they proceeded and the AC work fine for about 20 months then the last 6 months showed signs of failing. Going back to them...guess what...they said it failed and another near $1800 was needed to replace it. I went to two other shops and that wasn't so. So I went and had it diagnosed by an AC expert. The repair shop commented to me....whoever (Sun Devil) replaced it...did not sufficiently purge and clean the system and the contaminants is what caused my current problems. Well after replacing a contaminated orifice and flushing four times...I was back on the road for less than 15% of the cost Sun Devil wanted. I would say to anyone listening. Go to your other experts for proper diagnostics and repairs and let Sun Devil change your oil. The customer can then remain in control. I think I been scammed by Sun Devil. read more

Six months ago, I was told by another auto repair shop that I needed a new a/c compressor. I thought this odd since I had recently purchased the vehicle and had it looked at by a Nissan Dealership. The a/c was working fine 6 months ago. That shop wanted over $800 for a used compressor. Over the past 6 months the a/c has gone from bad to non-existent. I decided to try Sun Devil Auto in Mesa. Several people in Leisure World had recommended them to me. I couldn't be happier with their customer service, knowledge & expertise, professionalism, and the repair work they provided. I now have perfect a/c and a safe car to transport my 86 and 88 year old parents in. They found 2 belts that were ready to go and that could have been disastrous. I got everything replaced, fixed, and checked over, as well as an oil/filter change for half the price of the used compressor that I didn't actually need. I took my 2000 Toyota Camry to Sun Devil Auto in Mesa on a Saturday Nov.5th. I had a HORRIBLE experience! After taking it in for an overheating issue (after I already replaced the radiator) they informed me that I needed new upper and lower radiator hoses and a new T-Stat. After approving this work to be done for $350. I also asked for a quote to do my brakes. The manager informed me that they were working on getting the back brakes off of the vehicle and would call me back. When he returned my call, he informed me that something with the back brakes was cracked/broken and they had to be replaced and could not be put back on. Now my quote is $950.00. When I returned to pick my vehicle up after being told it was fixed and ready to go. I got into it after the mechanic drove it around front for me and noticed that the temp gage was almost in the red and it was overheating worse now then before I took it in. I brought this to their attention and was told to drive it around for a while and see what happens. If it continues to have an issue then bring it back. On Tuesday, I returned and informed them that it was still having the same issue and that it was worse then before I brought it to them. They had my vehicle all day Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and were unable to figure out what was wrong with it. On Friday, they had a specialist come in to look at it. He came to the conclusion that the incorrect T-Stat had been installed to my vehicle 3 times!!!! At 5:30 pm on Friday, I picked my vehicle back up and was told it was all fixed and safe to drive. That evening I drove from Mesa to Phoenix, my car overheated. My vehicle continued to have the overheating problem throughout the weekend. The following Monday and Tuesday, it was not showing overheating on the gage, but the engine has that smell of an overheated engine, every time I drive it. I was told by a Manager of this store to "just rent a vehicle for a few days, can't be more then $30 a day". I don't think this is an appropriate thing to say to anyone! I brought my vehicle to you for a simple overheating issue and since you have had it, you have made it worse, not better! I am now currently in talks with the area manager. He is now requesting my car for a few days AGAIN so that he can look at it and try to get the issue solved! This has now been a week and half, and 2 times of telling me my vehicle is fixed! I will NEVER go to ANY Sun Devil Auto again and I will NEVER refer any one to them!! read more
