Before Sumo Roll, I've never had sushi burrito's before and now I love them - especially from here! Seeing that we're still in a pandemic, I order mine to-go and it's still great. Great balance of flavors in each bite, I think they've chosen the ingredients quite right. The burritos are a fair size for the price you pay. Picking up the food is also a great experience. My first impression walking into this place was how attentive the staff are here. I greeted upon entering and came by often to fill my water cup when it was empty. I came to Sumo Roll before they changed their menu a couple years ago, and I always ordered their California Roll. They still have this roll on their menu so I ordered it again, and it is still delicious. It appears that their rolls no longer have the oddly colored purple, sour vegetable in it. I like this roll even more now actually. The price is good for the serving size. Next time i come here, i will try their poke bowl. Edit: 10/16/18 The staff still impresses me with their attentiveness. Their menu appears to have changed again! I ordered their agemono (sushi burrito with shrimp tempura), but this time I did not like it very much. I was really eager to write this review and give this place a negative review because we had a not so pleasant experience with ordering through grubhub and our food not being ready for over 45 minutes after we ordered. The host was kind enough to offer us a full refund but we decided to wait it out and just get the food since we already had waited that long. The food was amazing, we ordered the seaweed salad, the real California roll, the Kazan burrito, gayoza and the takoyaki. We drove the food back to SF and ate it at home and the food was still delish! Bombdotcom for sure. If you are around this area and want some good sushi at an amazing price I highly suggest this place. Only reason that I gave it 4 stars is because of the wait that they blamed on grubhub. Parking anywhere here can be a pain. Best experience doing takeout here is going with a friend so one of you can grab and go. Anyway, I love a good sushirrito (sushi burrito) and this is my go to spot for them in the East Bay. They're only open for takeout at the moment and can be ordered online or via phone. I took advantage of one of their Berkeley Restaurant Week deals which included 2 burritos and a 2 sodas. For the deal the burritos were pre-selected, but I didn't mind because it included two different kinds and allowed me and my partner to try two different flavors. The Verdict? They're all good! Order based on your mood or time of day. The Oki California Roll tasted very fresh and in the future is something I'd choose for a lunch or on a hot day. The Agemono was my preferred as I loved the mix of proteins and I would choose this one any time of the day. The warm salmon option I'd prefer on a cooler day or for dinner. Another sushi burrito spot opens in Berkeley. I came in by myself and got the kamikaze (spicy tuna) and upstream (salmon). I didn't like the kamikaze very much because everything was cold. Perhaps I should of waited to eat it at room temperature. It also wasn't spicy enough for me. Habañero tuna is not bad idea. They should consider different levels of spiciness. I ate the upstream later in the day and tasted much better at room temperature. It was much more flavorful. The rolls are very plumpy with lots of toppings/ingredeints. It seems that the rolls have more toppings than actual fish. A little more fish/protein would be nice. You can always add extra for $2.95 I sure don't mind paying for extra fish/shrimp. I just hope the extra portion is as much as the portion that the rolls originally come with. Came here for a Sushi burrito as they came up as #1 on my Yelp search for the area. I was a bit reluctant to visit this spot, as I really like my normal place...... I should've went with my instincts. First strike-- the food. I ordered the baked miso salmon sushi burrito. The seaweed wrapper was super soggy and added nothing to the burrito, except a flacid layer that weakly held the contents together. As soon as I bit into it, I was shocked at how dry it was. I continued to eat it, as I was curious why it was so dry. IT WAS THE SALMON. All of the juices were cooked out of it and there was absolutely no trace of a miso dressing. Needless to say, I felt played after spending $15 on something that ruined my appetite. Second strike-- the customer service. It was terrible. I love this lunch spot! Big portions, delicious and fresh ingredients, and affordable. What else can you ask for!? I have only ever tried their 'make it yourself' poke bowls because they are such a good deal ($8.75 whilst the other poke places in the area are between $11-13), but I plan to try the sushirritos next. The poke bowls are great. I always ask for a mix of raw salmon and tuna with sushi rice. You're free to put as many toppings as you'd like, which is amazing and makes for a pretty good size bowl that will fill you up. They have a pretty long list of them; from tomatoes and carrots to edamame, tobiko, and dried seaweed. The service is also something that definitely made for a better experience. The server working here is incredibly sweet and helpful. The first time I was here, she offered a sample of their sauces and gave recommendations. Also, they took forever to come by and refill our water, even though there were hardly any other people dining. Takoyaki-HIGHLY RECOMMEND: 6 pieces for $5.50 is a great price! The takoyaki was the best dish I had here. It was warm, and the dough was that perfect in between of battery and fluffy. Calamari: So addicting-the sauce was good too! Rainbow Roll: $9.95 is a little pricey for this roll. It was mediocre-the crab mix and rice were fine, but the fish had a chewiness and did not melt in my mouth. The first time we had this place we were AMAZED! The sushi was so FRESH and DELICIOUS! This was right before Covid quarantine in March. We had this place again last week and the sushi was STILL FRESH and DELICIOUS....BUT man did they get our order all wrong! We ordered tempura sweet potatoes and got all carrots with no notification. While this place started off as 5 stars, it has gone down hill significantly. The last visit will be my last. Why? 1. I had several bones in my salmon and tuna pieces. 2. Clean flavors, decent portions for the price, close to a nice park to sit in and devour food. The front looks clean, you get to watch as things get assembled. The place is relatively tiny though so I can only imagine how packed things can get when the lunch rush is going through being across from campus and all. So I ordered the kamikaze. The bites were well balanced and I liked the amount of veggies that were in it. The tuna and wasabi aioli had a nice kick to it. Makes me want to make my next aioli with wasabi in it too although I don't eat fish as much as I'd like to so I'm not sure when that'll happen next haha. I doubt I would want to make it and get sushi to go or something although I'm tempted by the idea anyway. The pickled cucumber and seaweed salad that was put in gave the whole thing a nice crunch here and there which was nice. I personally like texture differences so a little more crunch might've been better although I'm not sure what I could've added to it to really get that. I didn't see any kind of menu for what veggies are offered despite seeing a 0.50 upcharge to add it. I think an addition like that and types of sauces offered would make customizing really good in this case. It was good for what it was though, I'd definitely keep it on my list of options for food when trolling the area for eats. Recently changed ownership as of 9/2017. I never came before this month, so I can't say much about how the food was before, but the thing I ordered tasted great! I went for the furano burrito (vegetarian), and the futomaki roll (vegetarian). The furano burrito was great -- I was a bit hesitant about the asparagus, but the kimchi (delicious btw, not over/under fermented) and the house dressing definitely out flavored it, in a good way! I'm not sure about some people, but I definitely could eat a lot - so just a burrito wasn't enough for me. The futomaki roll came with 4 pieces (not 5), and also tasted delicious! I love that their rice has just the right amount of rice vinegar. As for the restaurant itself, there seemed to only be two people working there, so service was a bit slow. However, when I walked out the restaurant with my to-go order, they forgot my napkins, so the lady ran out of the store to give me napkins! Staff is very friendly. We ordered 3 rolls, Lion King Roll, California Roll and "Waguy" Maki. Not quite sure if they misspelled Wagyu on purpose. All were delicious. The rolls were pretty large. Good size portion. When the Waguy Maki came out, the meat looked pretty much raw with the fat hanging out. Not sure if it's supposed to be served like that. It was still good but we brought it home and tasted much better when the meat was a little bit more cooked. Lion King roll had sriracha which I liked. A little bit different than other Lion King rolls I've had. The one thing I didn't like was that they torched the salmon on top of the Lion King as opposed to baking it. So, some parts had an unpleasant propane taste. It got pretty busy in the afternoon so the service was quite slow when getting our bill. We had to go up to ask for a box and our check. Overall, happy with our experience at Suno Roll. We would come back again when we're in the area. My new favorite local sushi spot! I think my favorite part, besides the authentic food, was the service. When walking in, I was greeted by the sweetest young lady. She walked around the counter and walked up to me and my boyfriend to show us around the menu that we picked up by the front entrance. I am seriously overwhelmed by how genuinely nice and respectful she was. We ordered our four sushi rolls, and she then asked if we would like free miso soup. We picked our seats and she brought out the miso soup. She also brought us free green tea! The miso soup was delicious! I hate the miso soup without any body to it -- just plain broth and a few pieces of seaweed and tofu floating. The miso soup at Sumo Roll had so much flavor and REAL seaweed. I was also very satisfied with the rolls we ordered for dinner. I would come back in a heartbeat. I believe the girl who I keep taking about is the owner or the owner's daughter. Such a sweetheart. I walked into this restaurant because I needed to grab dinner prior to heading somewhere else. They have sushi burrito and poki/poke bowl, along with monthly special of pork belly dish. They did not have too many customers inside, but definitely have plenty of tables and seats. I ordered one burrito and one poki/poke bowl (which you can order by marking the ingredients you want on a menu with whiteboard marker). They took pretty long time to make both of the items. Two items took them over 25 minutes to make. Knowing that other poki/poke bowl places take only like 4-5 minutes to add ingredients into the bowl as you choose (like chipotle), this was a drawback. The food however tasted great. The sushi burrito was packed with ingredients, which is probably why they took a long time. The bowl had nice portion of rice, protein, and other selected toppings. Overall, a great place to go and get nice sushi burrito or bowl. Just keep in mind that they will take a bit of time to have your food ready! read more

I would rate higher, but this is based off the poke bowl (I would probably come back for the sushi). I think they forgot one of the ingredients, but I didn't realize until later. Maybe it's because I got brown rice, but the entire bowl seemed off with the flavors. There wasn't as much protein as you would get from other poke places too. I think it was an underwhelming bowl.
