I'm not sure what's going on over at Oori, but it seems my rice triangles have shrunk. The two pieces of scallions add a beautiful bite to my spicy pork, and handful of edamame went well with my two triangles while the box behind it had about twice as much. On our way back home, we decided to get dinner here. Food was good, but we didn't get one of our orders, their Dubai Marshmallow Chocolate Cookies Dessert ($7). We didn't notice it until we got home and it was already too late to go back because one, it's a bit late already and second, by the time we get back there they would be closed. I don't know how they would forget it, it was the very first thing on the receipt which was taped on the front of the to-go bag! I don't know how these places don't double or triple check the orders as they go which they should as part of giving good customer service. I've been here twice now. The first time wasn't particularly memorable, but I wanted to give it another shot before committing to an opinion. Unfortunately, the second visit confirmed that it's not worth the time. Most recently, I ordered the chicken teriyaki and the unagi (broiled eel). Both were noticeably bland. Unagi is usually a safe bet because it tends to have a consistent, rich flavor even at basic sushi spots. Here, it was completely flat. It tasted like it had never been marinated, and no seasoning was added to make up for it. They do offer a generous condiment station, which is a nice gesture. But even after trying to resuscitate the triangles with some emergency flavor injections, they were too far gone. The atmosphere is casual and geared toward takeout. There are a few seats inside and a couple of small outdoor tables. If the food were better, it could be a nice spot to sit outside on a sunny day with BART trains rolling by overhead. The menu is small, which should make it easier to maintain consistency and quality. Right now, though, the execution just isn't there. Maybe things were better when they first opened, but at this point, it feels soulless and phoned in. With so many solid options nearby, it's hard to recommend this place unless it is the only thing open at 9pm and you need something quick. If you're after a handheld rice snack, I'd suggest checking out Yonsei Handrolls down the street instead. read more

They have a salad on the menu but I didn't see it on the kiosks - which is the main way to order. The servers (behind the counter) are always friendly and fast. One thing that didn't used to be an issue as much but I noticed recently is that the place really needs a deep clean. I often make my own musubi/onigiri/rice balls at home so I try not to eat out for it, but this place is definitely somewhere I will go to again and again! Tried Oori out for the first time the weekend and it was so good!! Ordering online and pick up was easy. Parking might be hard but luckily we found an open spot right in front. It wasn't the biggest deal considering I LOVE their short rib triangles but it was disappointing knowing I paid extra for double unagi just to not receive it. This place has been in my bookmarks for quite some time now. I decided to give it a try today because I wanted something a little different. I ordered the 4 piece triangle box so I could share with my brother. Spicy Ahi tuna, chicken teriyaki, short rib and spicy pork. My brother really liked the short rib. He said it was very flavorful and preferred it over the others. I really enjoyed the spicy ahi tuna. I liked the texture of it lol and the spicy pork was pretty good as well. They both had the best flavor and taste to me. The chicken teriyaki was not that good, I wouldn't order it again in future visits here. Edamame was good. Staff/service was nice and ambiance of the place... it was quiet because I came right as lunch time was getting started. Maybe 4.5 stars? This place is NOT meant to be super authentic Japanese food. It's more like Chipotle for Mexican food, if you want a comparison. It's got rice and onigiri and some (not too out there) seafood options and edamame, but that's where it kind of ends as far as Japanese cuisine goes. It's Japanese-lite fast food, how about that? But the quality is pretty good for what it set out to do. The food (both portion and quality) is pretty consistent, so you almost always know exactly what you'll get. That's a win for me. I always get the 3-item rice plate, with spicy shrimp, ahi tuna, and a third option that varies depending on my mood. You can ask for siracha and teriyaki sauces from them. I tried their wasabi packet once, but wow, that has a serious bite! I also add my own lemon and avocado, and it's a really solid, satisfying meal. If you want a quick, convenient, filling bite, Oori Triangles just might be for you. That was exactly what we were looking for after our bike ride up Tunnel Road. Maybe because we also just came back from Japan recently, and we may have been looking for a familar taste. One of the things that caught our eye was the free set of edamame we get when we buy a set of three "Triangles". I loveeee a good plain bowl of edamame, so even if I can't finish a set of three in one sitting, I was going to order a set of three for the free edamame, haha. This place is street parking only, and luckily, we found a spot right in front! There's not a lot of tables inside nor outside, but I think turnover is quick enough that you wouldn't have to wait long if you wanted to sit and eat there. Inside is a little bare, but they provide everything you need for sit-in, or takeout. Something I noticed is that there seems to be a good amount of foot traffic there. Maybe it's a popular, small-bite restaurant amongst the locals? I'd love to have some place similar closer to home! For myself, I opted to get 1) Spicy Ahi Tuna Triangle, 2) Grilled Salmon Triangle, and 3) Double Unagi Triangle (there's an option to get single unagi or double)! My partner opted for the same, except he got a Short Rib Triangle instead of a Spicy Ahi Tuna. We also got a side salad, without cheese, to share. Dressing was provided on the side, and they also gave us two small containers for sesame seeds if we wanted to sprinkle them on salad/triangles! These triangles are more pricey than the onigiri you can get at Berkeley Bowl, or other supermarkets, but these are made-to-order (fresh and warm), and they are stuffed with ingredients. The rice to ingredient ratio is more like 1:1. They're also bigger size too - I would say maybe 1/3rd bigger than a regular onigiri. From my order, I would say the Unagi definitely tops the other two. My second favorite would be Spicy Ahi Tuna, and last is the Grilled Salmon. The Unagi is perfectly saucy, not too overwhelming in taste, and pairs perfectly with the rice. My Spicy Ahi Tuna was saucy as well. It wasn't really spicy at all - maybe they need to take the spice level up a notch. It's more mild in taste, but I preferred that today. Lastly, the Grilled Salmon Triangle. I don't normally like Teriyaki sauce, but I opted to try it as is today and it came with Teriyaki sauce. Maybe if I opted for no Teriyaki sauce, I would like it better, but I thought the salmon was a bit on the drier side. I also prefer the salmon in my onigiri flakey. It's still an good onigiri, just not for me. I also wish the edamame was just salted and boiled, but I think it's grilled, so a tad more flavorful that I'd like, but it's complementary, so can't complain! As for the salad? Mixing in the sliced gingers was interesting, but good! Salad was really fresh too. Would I come back again? For sure! I love how quick and convenient a Triangle bite is. It's also a perfect re-energizing bite after a bike ride. 10/10 would recommend if that's what you're looking for! read more

I love this place. I recently discovered this place because I was craving for an onigiri on a late night. I've been here twice. I've tried: Short Ribs, Pork Belly, Grilled Salmon, Spicy Tofu, Spicy Kimchi Triangles. My fave? I can't choose, they are all equally good, well maybe kimchi is second above others. But I have a tip: when you order the grilled salmon, make sure you ask for lime. Drizzle the triangle with lime before you eat, the flavor is even more bomb. Good ratio of meat to rice. At least I was not wishing for more meat after I ate. For me it was perfect. But then again, I love rice. They sent her and her friend away without food, refund, or any record of a credit to her account("come back in a few days if you don't get a refund"). I went down to show them the manager the debit record and she said it wasn't their fault, "it's the system". I asked for a refund and they said they couldn't do it. Unbelievable that a business would not take responsibility for their errors and try to make it right with the customer. This happened before and I wrote it off as a fluke. We loved the convenient location on Solano, the fact it was affordable, and how the food came out hot, fast, and fresh. The restaurant is small in size and is primarily a take-out spot. You're able to order online, on their app, or their tablets inside. You pick up your food and utensils at the counter and take them to go. They have two small counters and bar stools and a couple of tables outside to eat at. Service is quick and efficient as the workers both create the triangles and hand you your order. Parking is a breeze as it's free street parking on Solano Ave. My friend and I ordered ahead online and were pleasantly surprised that our food was ready before our designated time. She opted for the Three Triangle Box which comes with complimentary edamame, while I got the Two Triangle Box. You have the option to pick and choose what triangles you want which range from various meat, vegetarian, and spicy options. I decided on the Unagi Triangle and Spicy Shrimp Triangle (my two favorites). The Unagi Triangle comes with a tender and flavorful piece of unagi glazed in unagi sauce. While the Spicy Shrimp Triangle comes loaded with creamy cooked shrimp--I find it to be mild and not spicy at all. Was looking for something to eat today that didn't have "meat" in it. Was craving something sushi-related, so decided to stop in. Since it's Ash Wednesday, I ordered the trio triangles which included unagi, spicy ahi tuna, spicy shrimp. It included free edamame. There was a sign on the table that you can request teriyaki, sesame seeds, and red pepper. There were no options for those toppings on the tablet I ordered from. The place is very small, no dine in, but there are maybe three small tables out front. There are about 3-4 tablets that you can order your food from. My order came out really quick, in about 3 minutes or so. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. Like the other recent reviews, the edamame was cold. The rice tasted like plain Jasmine rice and it wasn't warm either. Maybe it was already prepped, that's why my food came out so quick. It's a bit pricy for 3 triangles, about $15.
