Really just good value for the money. May be my new take-out sushi spot. The nigiris all came with huge slices of fish. The sushi rice isn't my thing.. kinda fell off the fish a bit.. maybe just me? Free roll, miso soup and salad included! I think overall this is just hard to beat. Only thing is this is takeout only.

It's so good and so simple. The food is affordable and very fresh and delicious. I got a sake donburi, sake making and spicy tuna. I don't love avocado in my spicy tuna, but it was super delicious. It's a takeout spot in a strip mall with limited parking so plan accordingly. I'll definitely return soon, it's a great value.

Nori Roll is a tiny take-out gem of a sushi shop in a strip mall. They're efficient with orders- each time I've come in to order in person, it's ready to go within 10 minutes. We've been three times, trying specialty rolls, classic rolls, veggie maki (including sweet potato which is one of my new favorites), and pork ramen. Prices are very reasonable and there's usually easy parking.

Good quality sushi. I appreciate how many different choices they offer at a very affordable price point. This is a to-go spot, so don't expect seating. I will be back to try more of their creative rolls!

A really solid and affordable sushi spot. I ordered from ubereats and honestly it was worth the money. I'm surprised how fresh the quality of my salmon nigiri was! I feel like my least favorite was the spicy tuna roll. It definitely wasn't spicy and it was sort of slimy.. but overall good experience. The dragon roll was really good. Pro tip: ask for extra ginger bc they're a bit skimpyy and use different wasabi.

Our go to takeout sushi place! It's no frills and the fish is always fresh. Ordering online and then coming to pick up is a breeze. There are so many different rolls to choose from and we've liked everything we've gotten so far. The rolls are big, yummy and filling. It's not necessarily traditional nor is it a fancy place but if you're looking for a delicious casual takeout sushi place - this is it!

A great little Japanese takeout restaurant. Service was quick. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the fish. I ordered a chicken karaage, rainbow roll, salmon lover roll, and cherry blossom roll. Everything was really good and very reasonably priced. I will definitely come back.

so yummy and so good. portions are generous and the owners are so sweet. worth every penny! wasabi is legit! there isn't any real sit-down area, so its a quick pick up and take out vibe.

This is a Togo sushi place but with the Best quality sushi with reasonable price that I could find in the Bay Area. I have been eating sushi / Sashimi from all over the world including Japan. You should give it a try if you care about sushi rice , sashimi quality. They also have a reward program when you order online which makes it even better deal. Super convenient process. They also willing to use the containers I brought, making togo order environment friendly

The messiest and loose rolled sushi I have ever had. I tried to pick it up with chopstick and dip in soy and it would just fall apart before I even got to do the. Highly disappointed

Mugunghwa has their own parking lot, which is nice since parking is not the easiest in this area when it gets busy. The restaurant is a pretty good size compared to the strip mall just north of this location. They could handle a larger group, no problem. We were a party of two and ordered a combo along with some wings. The food: The banchan here is S-Tier. Everything is so flavorful and there is a lot of diversity. I'm including the SSAM as banchan, which includes lettuce, thinly sliced, pickled daikon, thin pieces of raw garlic, pickled jalapeno and onion, and a gochujang based sauce. I really enjoyed the bulgogi with the sides. I wasn't exactly sure how to eat it, but I put a little bit of everything that came with the SSAM along with some rice and bulgogi and it was delicious. We ordered an 8 piece wing that they were able to split half Soy Garlic and half Spicy. It was nice they offer half/half on such a small order. Crunch was good, but not excellent. As part of the combo, we got the Seollongtang, a thinly sliced beef brisket soup and purple rice. The soup was neutral and not super beefy. It looked about right, but maybe it could have used a little more salt. Overall, really impressed with the selection and the complimentary side dishes here! Excited to find another solid Korean restaurant in the Bay Area.

Everyone that ate the bulgogi had diarrhea the next day. It's sad bc the flavors of the food here is actually very good and authentic (and I've gotten the hot tofu soup many times and that seems to be okay). If you look into the older reviews, you can see that there have been others complaining of getting food poisoned. I hope they take this issue seriously and look into their food handling practices. For health reasons I will not return back here unfortunately.

It appears to be popular with families as well. It was a Friday evening after 9pm, kind of late for us to eat very much but I needed something so we popped in. It was quiet, maybe three or four other tables. Our food server was patient as I looked over the fairly large menu. Ended up with some of my current faves: hamachi nigiri, California roll, yam roll, and salmon skin roll. Everything was thoughtful, well prepared, and delicious. It was just enough food and I was good for the night. On our second visit, my hubby and I brought my dad for lunch to celebrate his 88th birthday. It was pouring rain outside but we were fortunate to get parking right outside the door. We ended up sitting by the window which was the same table we sat at during our first visit. We ordered gyoza (6) for the table. We all ordered bento. Dad had the beef short ribs and California roll, hubby had the Vegetable tempura and California roll, I had the Saba shiyoyaki and hamachi sashimi. All three came with miso soup and salad. Everything was delicious. My fish was well seasoned and moist, dad's beef short ribs were tender, hubby's tempura was light and crisp. Lunch was very reasonably priced for all we ordered. I am definitely a fan of this place and look forward to dining here again.

Review for dinner service on 6 March 25…read more I had been trying off and on to get a booking but nothing was ever available, so I was pleasantly surprised to snag a seating for two within a week of the reservation because a fellow Yelper cancelled her reservation (thank you Sarah T!) The following week, we were in for a wonderful, delicious and entertaining evening. The two other couples had made their reservations back in December, so I felt very lucky we did not have as long a wait. Chef Aki-san and Michiko-san are a husband and wife team. At 6pm, the door opened and Michiko-san invited the six of us to choose a seat at the sushi bar. We all sat down before a simple place setting: a square ceramic plate, hashioki (chopstick rests), hashi (chopsticks, paper napkin and oshibori (towel for wiping your fingers). She handed us a menu and checked in with everyone to see if there were any dietary restrictions or allergies, took our drink orders and a brought a small bowl of edamame for each couple. We declined ordering any side dishes because I suspected that the 16-item omakase selection would be more than enough for the evening. As it turned out, two salads were added to our already extensive menu. Nommmm ... more tastes for me :D As we drank and munched on edamame, we watched Aki-san stocking the bar with ingredients he would be serving to us. He introduced himself and in turn we introduced ourselves - where we were from, how we learned of the restaurant, etc. It turned out to be the first time for all of us. During the course of the evening, we learned quite a bit about his history and experience working as a sushi chef before opening his own restaurant. Our menu (in order) for the evening: -Tako and Sunomono salad with shiso leaf, drizzled with a light miso sauce -Blue fin toro -Ika/squid -Hokkaido scallop -Ebi/fresh water shrimp -Sake/salmon -Saba/mackerel -Ankimono (Monkfish liver) and Sunomono salad with scallions and tobiko, shiso leaf with a ponzo sauce -Ikura, avocado and tobiko -A5 wagyu -Seared albacore -Hokkaido uni -Buri/ hamachi yellowtail -Blue fin toro -Sake/salmon cold smoked with hickory -Anago (fresh water eel) -Unagi (salt water eel) -Tamagoyaki Everything was incredibly fresh and tasted of the sea. Each piece was carefully prepared, perfectly seasoned, beautiful on the plate. He talked about each item as we tasted and ate. I loved watching as he rubbed the wasabi root against a metal shark skin grater, a tool he has had forever. Chef Aki-san chided me when I confessed I was eating the nigiri in two bites - apparently that is the wrong way to eat! Nigiri is meant to be eaten in one bite, the logic being that you don't get the full experience of the taste and flavour in two bites. My issue is that most nigiri sushi these days have too much rice that my mouth is too full to appreciate the flavour. However, he prepares "low carb" portions so the fish and beef are highlighted, yet all in balance. To sum things up - the food and presentation was perfect. I am not a fan of eel, so those were my least favourite bites. It was my first time eating monkfish liver. I found it quite delicious and would definitely eat it again. Mitchiko-san was very sweet and attentive, noting if we needed refills of water or sake jars. The atmosphere overall was light, friendly and jovial, and we enjoyed the company of who we were dining with. Not to mention that Aki-san is quite entertaining in his own right. Note: There is only one service per evening so you will not feel rushed to eat and dash. We did not get out of there until 9:30pm. He also mentioned that starting in June they will be cutting back to two days a week - Friday and Saturday only - something to keep in mind. Will try our luck getting reservations again in about 7 months to celebrate our birthdays and anniversary.

Authentic Japanese cuisine served in a small but charming restaurant along the Solano Avenue…read morecorridor in the heart of suburban Albany, California, Sakana And Yasai serves up some of the freshest and unique sushi rolls in the entire region. Coming from the same team that has operated the smaller Sakana Sushi & Roll on Arlington Boulevard in nearby Kensington, Sakana And Yasai took over the old Sugata Japanese Restaurant that existed here from multiple owners for decades along the corner of San Pablo and Solano Avenues. What gives Sakana And Yasai its authenticity is the fact that their ownership is authentically Japanese, which can be hard to come by, even locally in the Bay Area, which is displayed by their massive cuts of sashimi grade raw fish, thoughtfully arranged nigiri plates, and some of the most delicious sushi rolls that I have enjoyed in quite some time, thanks to the abundance of freshly sliced fish and flavor combination profiles. What brought me and two other diners here on a weekend evening for a nice dinner was the fact that one of our trio were interested in dining on Japanese food nearby and after looking at our options, I realized that Sakana And Yasai was now open for business. We decided to get to their new location early right at 5 p.m. as they open every evening for dinner at 4:30 p.m. We were lucky enough to get a table for three as they only had one more left when we arrived for dinner. What sets Sakana And Yasai apart from so many of their competitors, especially along Solano Avenue is the fact that they use purple rice in all their dishes, including their sushi rolls. Purple rice is a special blend of white and black rice, which they say are rich in antioxidants and fiber, which offers a better balance of flavor as well as makes for better overall nutrition at least so their marketing states. The menu at Sakana And Yasai is separated into categories including Appetizers, Sashimi and Nigiri, Combination, Sakana Donburi, Sakana Special, Classic Rolls, Baked Rolls, Vegetarian Classic Rolls, Vegetarian Special Rolls, Poki Bowls, Special Rolls, and their special menu that is featured alongside a wall on a board. For our first visit, we ordered their Sushi Combination C from their Combination section of their menu, which featured six pieces of nigiri and six pieces of sashimi with our choice of a California roll and served with one bowl of miso soup. We also ordered their Chicken Katsu entrée from their special supplemental menu, and we order two rolls from the special rolls section of their menu, including their Orange Blossom Roll which had salmon and avocado wrapped on the inside, and salmon and tobiko on the outside of the roll in addition to their signature purple rice, and their Three Amigos roll, which had tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, tobiko all wrapped in the inside of the roll with their signature purple rice. Our Chicken Katsu entrée arrived first, and it was easy to see why it's such a popular choice. Perfectly crispy with just the right touch of salt, it delivered a satisfying crunch in every bite. This was followed by our two favorite dishes of the night, which was their sushi rolls. With generously sliced, high-quality raw fish layered over beautifully seasoned purple rice, each roll was delicious from the first bite to the last. We also loved their nigiri/ sashimi combination, as everything was prepared with such thought and precision that it felt like we were dining in a bistro in Tokyo. Our total bill for so much food, some of which we were able to take home for a late night snack, was $110, which was more than reasonable considering the amount of food we received upon our first visit to Sakana And Yasai. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience so much that our group was back days later to try once again those delectable two sushi rolls and this time their small Sashimi Combo which were nice very generous slices of the freshest raw fish including Maguro tuna, Hamachi yellowtail and Sake salmon, it was a real winner priced at only $26. We loved the rolls and freshly sliced fish at Sakana and Yasai so much that we can easily see ourselves coming back again and again to satisfy our cravings for quality Japanese cuisine. As one of the newest spots on the block, it's already proving to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood dining scene.
