Many have had horror stories or bad experiences with dealerships and have relayed them to me over the years. I honestly didn't really experience this anywhere until I came here. I really have to say also, that I sure don't like giving bad reviews.. So my Subaru had a check engine light on. I have my own code reader. It had a generic evap code, which is common for a gas cap leak. I changed the cap. Code came back. I took it to a local mechanic that would check it for free. He mentioned that it would involve some labor to thoroughly check. So I called the Subaru dealer. The service advisor said that normally the diagnosis would cover labor time to replace part so I proceeded with this idea and took it. Every single time I wanted to find out the status of my car, I had to call them. Not even a courtesy call at the end of the day. I left my car here 2 separate times, the first for 2 1/2 days, second for 1 full day. All they could tell me was smoke was coming from on top on gas tank and it needed to be lowered to access area. Estimate $1165. No thank you, I'll go elsewhere. Meanwhile, they charged me the $199 diagnostic fee. They were blowing smoke up- well you know somewhere until I finally figured it out.. So I did go elsewhere,(see review) and then found out it was misdiagnosed! Or you can really say I was defrauded.. Are they incompetent or swindlers? A little bit of both maybe. Man, I told/warned them from the beginning, that I work on my own cars and know more than some. Sad state of affairs, either way at a car dealership. Yes, I'm taking receipts.. I then gathered up the receipts from both and went there after speaking on phone with the service manager. To avoid pounding on the counter when I arrived. He agreed with me and within minutes I was refunded the $199. They finally did end up making it right, after I had proved it to them. So this is why I have them at 2 stars- for the free Lyft rides, also coffee/tea in the customer lounge. So, from now on I will have my own horror story to tell about a car dealership.. read more

So the start of my journey with Summit started out good. I was working with one sales associate who ended up going out on leave, and started to work with Mike. I gave him a clear timeline when I was going to make a purchase and everything seemed fine. Until Jose got involved. I have dealt with many salesmen, but have never got the level of unprofessionalism and disrespect I got from Jose who is the sales manager. I did my financing with CalCoast which I could tell he was already irritated with from the start. Then because I was using them I needed to out the door cost from Truecar for CalCoast to run the numbers. Jose flat out refused, he had no interest in a deal unless it was on his terms. Then he had the audacity to talk about transparency and customer service being the pride of Summit Subaru. On that note I realized how much more respectful of my time, my money, and my pride the other dealership I was in negotiations with was. I wasnt going to write a review until after many ads popped up on social media that I commented about training their sales managers better and was blocked, that I realized this dealership will do whatever they can to hide the dark side of there business. The salesman i dealt with was pleasant at first. He took us for a test drive and knew the vehicle very well. It was a certified pre-owned w 5k miles. When it came down to the numbers, they weren't fitting my monthly budget. They add an additional $3k to vehicle price due to add-ons. READ THE FINE PRINT AT BOTTOM OF PAGE!! Those cannot/will not be removed even though the customer does not elect to have them put on vehicle. The salesman was loud in front of other staff and customers and kept repeating himself that our math wasn't mathing, we were making a mistake and they were busy and that car would be gone. I didn't appreciate his tone and even though I could probably afford the payment and make it work, I walked away. That part of the visit was extremely unpleasant. I thought about going bk because it was a good deal, however I decided not to give them my business. I waited 24 hours and the same car, different color came up in Orange Coast Subaru. So I called them up, gave them my numbers, they met my monthly and gave me a better interest rate. Got my car the same day (yesterday) yay! The only reason I'm glad I came here was because I wasn't even considering a Subaru until I came to this dealership and loved them. read more

I would like everyone to know that I sent over a negative review after one of my recent services a couple months back. To make a long story short, they would not honor any of the work that was covered under my warranty. I spoke to about 7 different employees/different departments, with each one of them providing different answers to my questions. It was not until I spoke to the service manager, that he honored the repairs were in fact under warranty (not sure why everyone else working there made me to believe it was not). We took our car in today and were told that they would not service us because of a negative review we left them a while back. The Service Manager mentioned he should have told us about this, but obviously this was not the case. I was not aware exercising the amendment to free speech is something I would be punished for it. Also, let's not forget about the countless emails and texts we receive to leave feedback on our visit. If a company cannot receive negative feedback, please do not ask for feedback at all. I would assume as a company you would want to know how to better service your customers. I am hoping nobody else has been denied services/black-listed for their honest feedback, as I do see some low reviews. This is NOT a business I would recommend taking your car to be serviced, as the employees from top to bottom are unprofessional. read more

I received 12 text messages leading up to the appointment date asking if I was going to arrive for the appointment. I answered all texts saying I would be there. The morning of the appointment, I received another text from the salesperson asking if I was still going to the appointment. I again said I was. I proceeded to drive 50min to the appointment. Upon arriving, I was told, "Oh, it's sold." What's the point of making an appointment and whatever happened to common courtesy of letting me know it was sold, prior to me making the drive. I mean, there was no communication issue with the 12 text messages prior. Thanks Summit Subaru for not allowing me to buy a car from you. I'm sure I dodged a huge bullet considering this is how your business practices are towards a customer that was just following all your rules of setting up an appointment. read more

I was disappointed in the way this dealership handles its business. My wife and I went there this evening to check out a car shown online. I went there to test drive it, and everything was going great. Of course, I looked around the vehicle and saw on the buyer's guide that it has a warranty. I thought everything was working out; I am expecting a child, I have dogs, and my mother-in-law is living with us due to a death in the family. Unfortunately, when we went to sit down and get a final price, everything turned south. The car was listed under $20,000, and they decided to upcharge me a little over $6,700. Their excuse was that they still needed to make money because I had agreed to pay cash and not finance. Are you serious? I don't know if they looked at interest rates, but it doesn't make sense to finance, and I don't want to be stuck with high-interest payments. As previously stated, the buyer's guide showed a warranty, but instead, they are making me pay for one, a maintenance package, and some other fees. I just wanted the car, but they refused to sell it unless I negotiated the warranty into the price. This was distasteful, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

Got a coupon from them for an oil change. I had just had it done there so I didn't need one right away. Called today and asked if they would honor the coupon even though it was expired. Employee was indignant and acted as if she might or might not take the coupon. She looked up that I have been a customer there and said she'd only take it this week not any other time. I felt like I was dealing with the mafia. They would make money if I came in this week or next. I guess they don't want my business. Service department is HORRIBLE! My technician tried to charge me for warranted services that were covered despite the information I provided. It took a phone call from a different subaru to get them to honor my warranty. There no communication about the status of my vehicle as I waited and had to ask to get my car back after hours of waiting. It is nearly impossible to get a service technician on the phone, you either have to go thru the animated system or leave a message. I was told by the service tech that my tires needed to be replaced and could be dangerous to drive on yet I never received any paperwork about my tire health. I called and left 3 messages and was never called back. On my 4th call I finally got a hold of a service tech and asked for the tire information to be emailed to me. I never got an email. I now have left 2 more messages with the dealership and have not gotten a call back. That is a total of 5 messages over a 4 week span with no response. How can a place that is supposed to ensure the safety of your automobile tell you that it can be acutely dangerous to drive your car YET won't provide information about the dangers. I have had to set up a new appointment with Kearny Mesa Subaru just to find out if my car is safe to drive or not. DON'T BRING YOUR CAR TO GET SERVICED HERE! read more

If you can see the last few reviews I have done-you could see how happy I was before the ownership changed. El Cajon Subaru is now changed to Summit Subaru El Cajon. I was patient with them. Even with all the revamping to...new owners? Their carwash was not working the last 3x I was there-I was ok with that, I have a membership with soapy joes. I was ok when they got rid of one of the perks there, the coffee machine. I used to be able to schedule an appointment thru the Subaru app-that is no longer available. What I do not have patience for and what I am not ok with is when I call-leave 2 messages and no one calls me back. WTH? I had better expectations of you all to call people back but now you have given me the ICK just like how Carl Burger's Dodge gives me the ICK with my fiancé's car. Very disappointed with the customer service at this location. In January I brought my car for an oil change and was told that I needed a new tire because I had two nails in my tire. I ordered and paid for the tire and was supposed to receive a call for when it arrived to install. By March I never received a call and when I called Subaru they told me my tire had arrived and the reason why no one called me was due to an ownership change. I brought my car in and after 2+ hours of inspection Subaru of El Cajon notified me I actually did not need a new tire because there were no nails in the existing tire. I was told I would receive a refund for the tire I purchased, but during the following week. Following week comes and shocker, no refund. I received a text saying I had to contact the old owners to get a refund via e-mail. After multiple attempts, no response back from the old owners via e-mail. I then got in touch with someone about the refund I was owed at Subaru El Cajon and they spoke to their manager and agreed that they were "going to do right by me" and give me a refund, but it would call me back... the following week. Never received a phone call or a refund or a tire that I bought for that matter. Today I have called them several times because the same tire has been losing air since I was told I did not need a new tire, and again, shockingly, Subaru of El Cajon has not returned any of my phone calls. read more
