Don't sign blindly! Misleading and nontransparent sales and finance team. Skip this place and go to another Subaru dealership. Below is the "deal" they offered me. The shiny-looking $1,500 dealer discount they took off MSRP + $3,000 rebate was basically getting eaten back up by the protection add on packages I didn't request and even worse the unitemized mysterious amount of $2,345 that shows up in the Gross Cap Cost. The worksheet showed a $44,853 selling price, but the itemized charges visible on the page only brought the total to $48,108.73 when the dealer listed the total as $50,453.74, leaving $2,345.01 that was not itemized. I repeatedly asked what made up that difference and requested an explanation, but I was not given one. Federal Regulation M says that if a lessee requests the gross-cap-cost itemization, it must be provided by type and amount before the lease is completed. FTC guidance also specifically tells consumers to question charges they don't recognize and to make sure optional add-ons are ones they actually agreed to. https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/regulations/1013/4/ They refused so I had to walk away. Extremely disappointed with my experience at Subaru Summit. From the moment we sat down to talk numbers, the pressure tactics started with the $15k add on -- and the worst part was being forced into their "ClearProtect" add-on package that I never asked for and didn't want. When I pushed back, my salesperson Todd insisted "we're not making any money off this," which honestly felt condescending and dishonest. This line is such a dumb things to say to customers. I came back to this location because I bought my Forester in 2018 here. Todd also made a point of insulting the payment numbers I was aiming for, telling me they were too low and sounded like "leasing payments" -- as if wanting a reasonable monthly payment was something to be embarrassed about. It came across as a tactic to make me feel unsure of myself. I understand dealer add-ons exist, but presenting them as mandatory rather than optional, and using a script clearly designed to shut down objections, is a shady way to do business. It made an already stressful car-buying process feel adversarial instead of collaborative. I won't be returning, and I'd encourage anyone shopping here to ask upfront about the add-ons like ClearProtect and DOWC PAINT & FABRIC. He went from we can't remove it to "giving it to me at cost" by giving me a discount on it. I hate the dance of how they have to keep going back to the manager to "ask". The manager was unwilling to make a deal because they're not making any money. There is truth to that because still today, the car is still on the lot and they are still not making any money off it. Remember this is not the only dealership in San Diego. Not all operates like this shady place. If you feel off about it, don't sign. I was able to get the 2026 Subaru Forester that essentially costs more than the model I was looking at Summit and was still able to get it for a better deal at Kearny Mesa Subaru. They also offered a way better financing than my credit union and what Summit offered. I got the "low leasing payment" that I asked for as a payment for a financed car. Way better buying experience! I wanted to buy a new Subaru Crosstrek Premium for my daughter as a surprise graduation present when she earned her Master's Degree. She liked the Offshore Blue color which is difficult to find. Summit had 2 of them in the lot, 1 base model and 1 premium. The salesman said there was an added dealer markup in addition to the MSRP because it was a popular model with a rare color. He also said the $2,500 mandatory ad-ons, like Ceramicoat were not negotiable. I walked out and went to "Autonation Subaru" in Carlsbad. They had the exact car in the right color, fresh off the truck. I paid $7,000 less than Summit Subaru. Plus we still get outstanding service. They even gave my daughter complete training on how to operate all the advanced electronics. Autonation was clean, modern, and spacious, unlike the dated confines of Summit Subaru. By the way, even the used cars have the mandatory ad-ons at Summit. How crazy is that? read more

Earlier this month (Feb. 2026) I found a 2021 Forester at this dealership that had been sitting on their lot since the beginning of October. I came prepared with a $12,000 down payment and let them know I was financing through my Firefighters credit union (My family's benefit for my father's service). I gave them the rate I was approved for and everything; however, they were incredibly pushy and were asking for all my information. When I asked if providing this would result in a hard credit inquiry, Todd (salesperson) explicitly stated that "no it won't be a hard inquiry, don't worry I get that a lot." Two days later I got a notice through Experian that I had a hard inquiry on my record. So, they blatantly lied to my face which violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act requiring "permissible purpose" for a credit pull. Next, their general manager, Romeo, came out with an Out-The-Door estimate over $8,000 higher than that MSRP. They tried to pull a bait-and-switch by advertising the price of the car at $22,744 but REFUSING to sell it unless I paid for $2,490 in 'mandatory' add-ons (Cerami-Seal and Clear Protect). I also asked to see an itemized breakdown of the Government Fee, to which the GM said "no, not until we get to financing." I did my research on what those fees should cost, and I was getting gouged there too. He was incredibly rude and hostile. The next day, I sent a professional email with my fair negotiation with market backed research. I pointed out that their own website says the Cerami-Seal and Clear Protect are OPTIONAL to consumers and cited California Vehicle Code § 11713.1 which requires the dealer to honor the advertised price. They replied to this email with a dismissive and petty response telling me to "enjoy my new car" elsewhere. Jokes on them, the car still sits on the lot, and the price has dropped by almost $1,000, proving that my assessment was correct all along. It may have been my first time buying a car from a dealership, but I am not the idiot they took me for and treated me as. I also would have thought being a first responder family member, I would have received a minimum amount of respect. So, if you value transparency, honesty, and professional conduct, I recommend taking your business to a dealership that respects California consumer protection laws and its customers. read more

I have been to a handful of Subaru dealership/service centers. The entrance is not clear upon arrival as it is located on tow streets on the corner with lack of signage. The worst check in system for people with reservations. They want people to stay in their cars waiting for a service advisor no matter the weather. It was sweltering hot with a slow moving line of cars being checked in. You had to idle with a/c running or stand outside your vehicle because of the heat. Also, the staff was not efficient in checking people in. I found the hold up the line was even due to a service advisor socializing with a client. When I pointed this out to another employee, they didn't think that an extended conversation about something other than the car being brought in for repair was fine. I almost left. And when you go to do the paperwork you must stand in an open area. No seating - no privacy. The waiting area was tiny and uncomfortable and crowded with horrible free coffee and a couple of free snacks. Then they had a mini-mart set up if you wanted to buy other food. This review is long overdue. I've really had a great experience overall with Summit Subaru and I will definitely be renewing a lease when my current lease expires. Ethan was my salesman and he's awesome. I made him take me out in a few of their cars, and yapped forever before I decided on my Wilderness, which I love and the turbo on the engine was so worth it! I'm so glad I was sold on hazard package because, well the second part of my review will cover... This is for the service department which has also been sooo amazing. I've had one windshield crack, 4 flats, an issue with the TPMS and I broke my eyeglass holder all that since October. All of them have been completely covered and the service dept has gotten me in and out with a quickness- two times I was also allowed a rental. All that to say thank you to Nathan and the whole service dept team! They joked about getting me my own office because of all my incidents, hopefully that isn't needed and I won't see them till I need an oil change or my lease is up. I arrived right at opening to get the process started, but the dealer I was working with, Josue, showed up 30 minutes late. When we began discussing the price for the car I had test-driven the night before, they added over $10,000 in fees to the sticker price. I was able to negotiate most of them off except for the "ceramic seal" and "clear protect" packages--extras the dealership added on their own. When I asked to have them removed, they made me wait 45 minutes just to speak to a manager, who essentially told me he couldn't take them off because "he has to make money on the car." I wasted three hours there and left with no car. I then went to Nissan in National City and found the same car, better model, at a lower price. Do yourself a favor and never go here!! read more

When I went to go buy my car, there was a guy by the name of Romeo Gorgis. This guy swore up, and down that he was trying to do me a service by trying to give me the best deal he possibly could, but when my girlfriend and I questioned him on the monthly payment and how he got to that number, he got upset. You see my girlfriend added up all the numbers and saw that we could get a lower monthly payment if he just took off all the extra stuff that we didn't want. He continued to raise his voice and insult my girlfriend and said that she didn't know what she was talking about, and that he couldn't bring the number any lower. We were ready to walk out and leave when just a little bit later he comes back with that lower number we wanted. My girlfriend and I were upset and felt like his attitude was unnecessary and rude. Call three times. The 1866 puts you in an endless loop of press-a-number. Service number requires 3 press-a-number and then gets an operator and then gets me hung up on. Service number two finally gets me through, after the operator. I ask for a quote. Apparently you need a vin number to get a quote, if not you have to call parts, get a parts quote, and then call back to get a service quote. When I question that, twice, I get an offer to be put on hold while the person, now apparently annoyed, says they'll call, but they really need the vin. First, year, make and model are all what a customer should have to know. Second, serval prompts for picking a number and being transferred when calling directly to service should not be the case. Third, have to contact two departments to get one quote, seems like something that is counter to any sort of service. This encounter made me lose faith before I stepped foot in the door. read more

I am really shocked to see this review posted because it is not my review of Summit Subaru. It is my review of Subaru of El Cajon in 2022 when I bought my car. I had to take my car to Summit because the computer screen went out and it was covered by warranty. In the process they took out the plug in for my carplay and phone charger leaving nothing but a hole where I plugged In my Car Play cord. I went back to the manager in the repair dept and showed him. He said he would run it back and have it fixed. When he came back he told me " the mechanic says he never touched that part. It must have been that way when you came in.". I told him for the second time, I never take my car play cord out because it is located in a dark place under the dash and difficult to put in so I leave the cord in. When I got my car back the cord was on the passenger seat and that and so I immediately noticed it when I went to plug in my phone. He continued to tell me not to worry that they would do me the Favor of repairing it for free! There was just an empty hole where the plug in jack should have been. They fixed it , but my CarPlay has never been reliable since and I blamed it on cords and even went to the Apple Store to ask why my CarPlay would just go out for no reason. He did say Apple was having some software problems with Bluetooth. I bought a new expensive Apple cord, because he said it was probably my knock off cord I was using. Yesterday, every time I went over a bump or my phone moved at all CarPlay would go out! Obvious connection problem with the port not the cord or software. When I left Summit that day in 2026, the repair manager kept mansplaining that it is a delicate connection and I must be more careful when I put my cord in. I told him to stop talking because everything he said was just digging himself into a larger hole as far as I was concerned. I was surprised he didn't pat my head and call me little lady! Now I am going in 7 days a road trip and can't go until I can get this fixed because I bought that car because of all the great technology that worked perfectly before Summit "fixed it " read more

Bought a new 2026 Subaru Crosstrek. I already have a 2025 Crosstrek so I was already familiar with this model. This will be my second Crosstrek. I just had one of the most stressful car-buying experiences I've ever been through. Working with Michael was cringe from start to finish -- easily one of the worst sales experiences I've had. When I asked to switch to another rep, management refused and insisted I stick with him so he could "get his sale." Michael was unprofessional throughout. The "protection package" they push -- door edge guards and handle-well film -- costs around $20 on Amazon. They list it at $2,500 and make it seem like you're getting a deal when they "mark it down." It's pure markup. What really upset me was Michael peeling off all the protective film, including the screen and dash covers, before delivery. Those should be removed by the buyer. Now our display and knobs are exposed, and the screen already has tiny scratches on day one. Also, watch out for financing -- they default to their in-house loan. Come with your own bank quote or pre-approval, or you'll likely pay more than you need to. Bottom line: I regret not walking away and going to another dealer. read more
