There's two parts to this review, but ultimately, they deserve a 5 star rating! I went in last week to pick up a bike that I had reserved the week prior. The website mentioned that the bicycle was to be picked up at either the Burlingame or Los Gatos store. Being the road bike enthusiast that I am, and since I am in the market for a new bicycle, I chose a bike which should have been available for a 24hr rental. However, upon arriving at the store, there was no bicycle my size. This matters greatly, as many people have stopped riding bikes because it hurts their body parts, but as kids, we just jumped onto any bike that was available. And especially, if I'm about to plop a couple thousand into a bike, it better be right! Nonetheless, I was hoping to try out a specific bike, which was unavailable. The staff was completely apologetic, however, and did what they could to offer an explanation as to why it wasn't available and how the website won't tell you where the bikes are among the three locations in the Bay Area. So part I of this review is a 1/5 since that is the lowest that I can provide. This is for the online rental process, the lack of follow up by the online reservation people as I sent multiple emails, and the lack of a bicycle. But this is where Summit totally makes up for the mistake. Anthony and his crew were very accommodating, in fact. To make things right, they sent me home with my dream Road bicycle, something that I never imagined ever riding. Anthony gave me a quick fitting and showed me some cool features of the bike and it's components. They also have this rental to me on the house, and promised to call me when the bike that I had originally booked, would be available. I spent the next 24hrs riding this heavenly road machine, and when my legs had had enough, I brought it back the next day. Anthony and his staff where there again the next day, and were still apologetic and looking to make things right. In my eyes, everything was right at this point, but the fact that they will call me when the bike is ready, is great. 9/5 Stars! Despite the initial issue, the staff courtesy and response was beyond my imagination. Today, Summit Bicycles definitely earned my trust and I look forward to returning to the store in Burlingame for the initial bicycle that I wanted to rent. Who knows, maybe I'll even buy my next road bike from them. The store is easy to get to, plenty of street parking, and is very clean. They sell mostly Trek bicycles and their Bontrager brand items, but you can also find some pretty other amazing brand bikes and items in stores. 9/29 - so I picked up the bike that I originally wanted to rent and came away with a beautiful Trek Domane. However, I wasn't fit for it properly and so the seat wasn't right. It was so off that at one point I had back spasms when climbing up the last major hill on my century ride. When I brought the bike back to the store, I gave Anthony and Tom my review and they both asked me what happened the day I picked up the bike. They felt bad that the experience wasn't as good as my first, so they totally went the extra step and will be giving me another day on the bike after a more proper fitting. Talk about great customer service where twice, both Tom and Anthony, saved what could have been written off as a bad experience. I do look forward to riding the bike one more time, but also to deal with Summit Bicycles in the future for a potential new bike! read more

Failure to deliver of services posted and I will be filing a claim with the BBB on Monday. Scheduled for a annual tuneup with Mike and discussed all that was to be done and was told the bike would be ready by noon the next day. I show up and a rude person named Chris angrily ask why I showed up as he did'nt call me. I explain to him I was told the bike would be ready by noon of the next day. He begins to tell me they are busy and have 10 bikes to do and my bike has not even been looked at and he would call me at 5pm if its ready. Chris calls at 5pm and tells me to pick up my bike, which is their closing time and again confronts me angrily with a surprise face. I was charged $259.00 dollars for a annual tune up of which the following items discussed with Mike were never done. **ultrasonic drive train cleaning ** adjustment of brakes and shifters ** cables installed as quoted ** adjust of front fork spacers All before and after pics will be submitted to the BBB along with a formal complaint of services posted but not tendered to customers. read more

Customer service is definitely by far the worst specifically the repair/mechanic side. You might want to go to their Palo Alto location their customer service team and mechanics are not only more knowledgeable, but more engaged in to helping out the customers. read more

Ordered, paid $5K for and waited for a bike only to be told 3 months later it was not available. The manager told me that they might have a bike at the same price in 4 to 6 months. They were rude and completely unapologetic. We made them refund our purchase price and got a bike from Competitive Cyclist. Either go with a small local shop or one of the big on line shop. I recently purchased this Italian-made cycling Helmet, Kask Protone. I did not expect to purchase anything too expensive until I tried one on. I care much about safely, of course, and comfortability when cycling. I have no regrets when I used this Kask helmet during the Tour of Napa Valley race. Plus, the gentleman that assisted me was very professional and knowledgeable of the product . He might be the owner of the store in fact. Been here more then a few times, called in asked if they had a 27.5 tire 605g person who answered the phone stated yes we have several, get to the shop and ask for a replacement tire with the torn one in hand after 5 minutes they state sorry we do not have that specific tire, we can order it for you and then install if for you when we get it in. SMH so I guess i'm a little pissed that if you say you have something and when you get there you say it has to be ordered why say you have it??? I have tested few bikes with these folks mostly trek bikes did not have any problems with trying out there bikes, they did convince me to go with hydraulic instead of mechanical brakes, so I would be fishing over and extra 2-3hun just for the upgrade if not stepping up bike model to something higher. They are very helpful in regards to bikes and bike care, accessories needs and wants, they do have 2 stores so they can check what they do have in stock but not sure if the guy in front was new or not it just seemed as if he did not know what they had in store or where to look, he checked with staff in back working on bikes to see if they have what they need and surprise surprise they do not. UPDATE: These clowns can't do anything right. The refund has not been processed to my card, and today I got a notification that *part* of my (canceled) order will be available for pickup in the store. Why anyone would give them several hundred dollars-let alone thousands for an expensive bike--when they can't even run their own software or handle simple customer service tasks, I can't fathom. Can't get through on their phone line to either their central number or the store either. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I should have heeded the 1-star reviews, because they tell the story. I like to support local businesses so when I fixed up my dormant bike and began riding again, and needed a new rack plus attachments, I chose a local retailer to order from, rather than direct from the manufacturer (Saris) or Amazon or some other online source. Summit is close to me and is an authorized dealer. Online their warehouse showed all the items I needed were in stock and could be delivered to the local store for pickup. I chose that option, placed my order, got my confirmation and waited patiently. I chose to overlook reviews that mentioned their poor communications and cavalier attitude to customer service and now I regret it. I took the delivery date seriously. Last night I checked the status of my order following a link in the confirmation and it stated "Delivered" (I have a screenshot). I tried calling the store multiple times today, but they don't answer, so I went over to Burlingame to brave the line. I waited in line patiently in the pretty hot sun for just about an hour. When I finally got admitted, the associate kept bringing either someone else's parts or parts of my order but after about 20 minutes it became clear that only a couple of my items--notably, not the rack itself, but additional straps and I-beams--had been delivered as promised. After multiple fumbling phone calls the clerk told me he might be able to get them in on Monday, four days hence. I asked him to cancel the order and issue a refund, and at first he wanted me to wait a day for that! Give me a break. I realize with Covid that everyone is busy, but please act like you are professionals who want to be in business and want to have a local business and build relationships with a local clientele. When you screw up, try to go the extra mile for your customer. I asked if they could get the parts down to Burlingame from their warehouse tomorrow and would be satisfied to come and get it tomorrow if I didn't have to wait in line. He was unwilling to take steps to go the extra mile, so as far as I'm concerned, there is really no reason to buy from them or have a relationship with them. Based on this experience and other reviews, there are so many business basics missing here. 1) Keep your commitments. If the items are in stock and you say you'll deliver, deliver them as promised. I selected Summit to buy this product because they showed stock and gave me a sure availability date. 2). Give accurate information; the online record showed "delivered" so I had to assume that meant the warehouse delivered to the store. 3) Provide a means of communication so you don't unnecessarily make people wait in lines when we all know time is precious. The amount of time taken with me to sort out a jumbled mess also inconvenienced everybody else behind me in that line. 4). Train your employees, the employee here seemed unsure how to cancel and order and issue a refund and couldn't even talk to somebody at the warehouse, and didn't seem to have anybody to escalate to in the store. 5). Be courteous...other employees seemed to find it amusing that a customer was getting messed with. Now, as I continue expanding my riding and contemplate upgrading my bike to an expensive electric model for commuting, replacing even more distant local driving for errands and other tasks, and bigger adventures, Summit is completely off the list. A couple of smaller shops in Belmont took much more personal interest when I stopped by to start looking at bikes, and will get a look, as will Mike's Bikes in Palo Alto. And the bike rack? I want to get further out there so I'm ordering direct from Saris, which I hate to do, but there is no advantage whatsoever in working with Summit, their dealer. I brought 3 bicycles for service to Summit in early Dec 2017 (they were not purchased here). Mike the service guy appeared very knowledgable about servicing bikes and was initially very attentive in scoping out the problems with the bikes..and giving me an estimate for ~$2,000 for basic tuneups and changing some rims. Their customer service is lacking.. I got a call saying all bikes are done (after approx 10 days) and when I visited, was told they are still waiting on parts. 1 bike was done. I picked up bike #1 (whose service was more than the bike cost.) I got bike #2 after 20 days (also whose service was more than the bike cost.) and while they had a big list of LABOR, the frame clearly was not even washed and they put the old muddy tires on new rims. I would think for $1000 tuneup, it might include a cleanup... be sure to ask them if they will clean the bike when you get a tuneup. It is now 30+ days after I dropped off bike #3 and I had to call them to see whats up. Still waiting on a part that was initially blamed on the XMAS shipping rush. It would've been nice to know I would have to wait over a month to get the bike serviced PRIOR to dropping the bike off.. I am now going to get bike #3 and have it fixed somewhere else. I would caution servicing your bike at Summit. I had a not-so-great, expensive experience. read more

Dropped in here quite a while ago and this white dude with a bald(shaved?) or balding? head(NOT the TALL dude working there now with the shaved head and tattoos) is having a BAD day and must have been having his monthly. I just stop in because something was wrong with my back brake(happened to be in area) and I need to buy some kit. I ask him and he literally asks me, 'Well are you even going to buy it here??' --like he's scared I'm going to buy online I guess?? I dunno. I get some kit I found in the store and I pick up a tool in the store I needed and start fiddling with my brake and he says Can you go pay for that? I say, 'sure yeah (I didn't know he was being emotional again) I plan to along with this other kit I found here in the store,' and I get back to fiddling with my brake using the tool I will be buying/need. In the whiniest, crying voice..he says "umm can you..go pay for it NOW??" Wow bro. Lol. Really? Is the tool game hustle running hard these days? Such a little _ _ _ _ h, lmao. Anyway, I dunno if he's still there. But I never went back because of him. What turned me off even more is when my buddies would call in to the mechanic who had their bikes the little kids at the front who aren't allowed to touch tools for fear of messing up their texting thumbs always ask, 'Do you even have a bike here?' or 'what's this about, why do u need to talk to mechanic so and so, can I just take a message?' Came by to test ride a new road bike. The staff was very helpful, the bike was adjusted for me and I hit the road quickly. Of the three I visited for test rides that day, this shop impressed me most. They took the most care in fitting the bike and making sure I had a good test ride. I bought my new road bike here. They got the bike within a week and accommodated my request to trade out a couple of components. The bike rides like a dream. I'll take the bike in for minor adjustments when the helmet I ordered arrives. Did I mention they offer lifetime service and fit adjustments. My husband and I bought two new Trek hybrids at this store two weeks ago. Tom helped us - and he was really good; giving us the opportunity to try various models and giving us some time to make the final decision. After we bought our bikes, there was a miscommunication and it turned out that my husband's bike would not arrive at the store on time. We had plans to pick up our bikes and go riding on the weekend so this was a bummer. My husband's bike was still stuck in their Santa Clara store; and he offered to go pick it up; which meant we had to make two trips to two separate stores to get our bikes. Needless to say, I was upset about it, and decided to write to the store owner at marketing@summitbicycles.com kindly letting them know that THIS SITUATION SUCKED. They wrote back immediately (a store manager in Los Gatos I think named Pancho) apologized nicely and fixed the problem - got BOTH bikes to the store the day they were supposed to be there; and also threw in two free Bontrager helmets for the trouble. Needless to say I was over the moon. I just want to thank the team there for everything you did to turn my disappointment into happiness. I really appreciate the extra mile you went to take care of us and make sure that we got our bikes when they were promised to us. Your effort and kindness to us does NOT go unappreciated. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I went in for help with adjusting the rear derailleur on my BRAND new bike out of the box and was pressured into their $159 tune up package but promised it would not take any additional time. When I received the receipt for my work order when I dropped my bike off on a Friday, the date the bike would be ready was listed as Monday at 7PM; however, when I went in at 1pm on Tuesday the bike had not even been started on being worked on. I was not offered any discount or compensation for this delay and am very disappointed in false expectations. I was also promised a certification as part of the $159 full tune up for the bike warranty which I never received. read more

I was desperate for a derailleur adjustment, and went by because they were recommended by a friend. The guy who took care of the derailleur noted a number of things that needed tweaking, including the brake pads on both front and rear wheels. He adjusted them for no charge. He then lubed up all my brake and derailleur cables, and replaced the cable on the spot. This was truly knock my socks off service, and I was not charged for the additional labor. I then went in a second time, because the new cable had stretched. Although the shop was closing, a different person than the original person (whose name is Francisco, very cool guy) actually told me that if I could wait, he would help me on the spot. I was pretty amazed by that. He looked it over, and adjusted the derailleur. He then replaced a piece of cable housing, which he found to be catching the cable a bit. I waited for the charge slip, and he just said "no charge, if you have any problems just roll back in." Both times they actually test rode the bike, to be sure the adjustments went well, instead of sending me out the door as so many other shops have done. I was mighty impressed with the service at Summit, and I will be back! read more

Got my Electra bike from here and I was satisfied with the help I got to adjust the seat accordingly to my short height. I came back probably 3 times to adjust the seat because I just didn't feel comfortable and they were so patient and kind to help. They didn't try to sell me on helmets and gear that I did not need, so I was happy that I did not have to waste their time to listen to sales talk. It was a clean and quick transaction! Initial review (dropped bike off right before the New Year): Overall, the initial experience went from great to terrible which resulted from a number of mishaps and internal miscommunications when I brought my bike to the time of pick up. If I could give a negative score, I would for my initial experience. - Billed $20 for a chain install when I purchased the tuning package and brought my chain in if they needed to use for tuning. How do you tune a bike without a chain? Would they just not do it if I didn't provide it? Called in and was given a BS response from the sales manager. If the work behind the Trek Madone involves literally stripping and rebuilding the bike, you think you would build that into your service model if it involved more labor. - Didn't install steer stop after 3 instances of reminding/having them note it on my work order (at the time of order, on the phone, and at the time of pick up) - Installed a number of parts I didn't authorize and then charged me for it - Replaced most of the cable/housing, didn't replace front brake cable/housing - Broken bottom bracket cable guide - Random housing piece laying inside the bottom bracket - Apparently the mechanic who worked on my bike didn't actually work at the shop, just helped around that day Update (1/17/20 - 2 stars): I talked to the service manager (Michael) after completing a customer survey (surprised they reached out quickly), and worked out a solution to bring the bike back in to make things right (TBD). +1 star for being proactive. I live about a 2+ hour round trip by public transit, so it's not convenient for me, and will update this review again on the follow-up outcome when I go. Update (2/9/20): I brought my bike in 1/31 to get the right cables installed and the bike looked over again for anything that wasn't worked on as discussed with Michael. He gave it a look over and reassured he would work on the bike himself. Over the time from when I dropped my bike off again, he was very responsive in addressing the concerns, promptly notified me what he inspected/worked on, and gave me a timeline when he'd be done. I voiced my concern having gone out of my way to get my bike worked on already if he could work out some delivery back up to SF. Today, I got my bike delivered back in person and offered to come back to fix a minor issue after inspecting my bike and talking to some guys at Trek. Talk about going above and beyond - much kudos to Michael on delivering and keeping his word. Definitely a happy camper for now. 5 stars for the service recovery. Final thoughts: Granted parts had to be ordered for my work order and issues ballooned out of proportion, what can't be undone is that my bike literally sat in the shop for about 2 months which is a far cry from their "48-hour turnaround" advertised on the website. What's great is they seem to be working actively to close gaps in their service and delivery, even if it is above and beyond in their service recovery (definitely better for everyone if you can avoid it). If you choose to go here for bike repairs, itemize everything (parts you need to get worked on/replaced, what they say they'll do/recommend, etc.). When you go back in to pick your bike up, inspect your bike and have them walk you through what they've actually done before you leave. read more

Online Buyer Beware! I'm sure they're a fine local bike shop. But the online experience was horrible. I bought a higher end bike from them and it's been an issue since its arrival. One customer service agent was friendly and attempted to help. But I called again on their day off and it got worse really quickly. Caveat Emptor!!!! I purchased 2 Bontrager tires online almost 2 weeks ago from Summit online. I have spoken to them 3 times plus emailed over 5 emails to find out where my tires are. The day after my order I was sent a credit for half my order without explanation. I called to find out why and was told they only had one tire in stock and the other was shipping out that day (over a week ago). Fast forward to today, I spoke to them once again today regarding cancelling my order all together. I was told it hadn't shipped as of yet so I requested a cancellation for the other tire. Their communication has been non existent and now they are telling me they refunded the entire amount which they have not. They sent me a lame spreadsheet they must have created today after my call to them showing that two credits had been applied. I checked my PayPal account and found that only half had been refunded. I sent them emails with evidence to prove my point and now they have ceased responding to my emails. All this for $55.00, I've never had to fight so hard to receive a credit! Thank goodness for Paypal, they are now taking over so I won't have to deal with these crooks again. Buyer Beware! read more

I went here as a first time buyer for a mountain bike. I didn't know what I wanted nor did I know what size bike I should be on. A young man by the name of Kevin helped me and he was very helpful. Showed me a few different options that he thought would fit my style. Once we narrowed it down, I was then measured and fitted for a Large frame. I ended up spending almost $5000 on a bike. They didn't have the bike in stock so they had to order one from Santa cruz. About a week later, they called me and said my bike was ready. I went down , picked it up, and went on my way. About a year and a half later when I was washing my bike, i noticed a sticker on the lower part of the frame that had an M on it. I was wondering what that meant.(again this was my first time buying a bike) I brought the bike back into the shop and showed the manager the sticker and told him that I was pretty sure that I was fitted to be on a large frame. They pulled up my receipt and sure enough it was a large. They asked me how tall I was and when I told them I was 6'1" they said for sure that I should be on a large. Then after a few phone calls back and fourth about getting the right size frame, they told me that since it has been so long, I'm stuck with what I have.(mind you this bike is still in mint condition so this was not a money grab, or wanted a new nicer bike) Even after I told them the risk of injury and higher risk of crashing of being on the wrong size frame, they refused to help make it right. I even asked multiple times to speak with the owner and he refused to call me. I then told one of the managers that it feels like all they wanted was my money and didn't want to help with making it right. I said I didn't want to take this to court but I don't know what else to do.. he said word for word, "this conversation is over, let me know how court goes." And hung up on me. These people only care about the money. They don't give a shit about you. I will NEVER EVER spend another dollar here. Nor will I recommend them to anybody. In fact, I will tell any of my friends that are looking to buy a bike, NOT TO GO TO SUMMIT!!! They are crooks and couldn't care less about there quality of service. Well, Summit lost my business today. I've been thinking about buying a road bike for the last few weeks, so today I went shopping. A friend mentioned that they went to this bike shop so I thought I would give it a try. The store wasn't particularly busy, and there seemed to be only one young guy on the floor, with several mechanics in the back. I told the guy that I wanted to buy a road bike and my budget was $2000. I have to emphasize that he was very nice, but not very knowledgeable. He showed me a couple Trek bikes in that price range that looked fine. I asked him what size of bike I should get. He wasn't sure so he went back and asked one of the mechanics. The mechanic took a look at me and told him 64cm. Then the mechanic just went back to his work. The more I asked the salesman, the less impressed I became. I asked if I should consider an aluminum bike or a carbon fiber bike, and he sort he had an answer, but then he wasn't sure if he had any aluminum bikes to show me. Then, he couldn't figure out if they had any bikes approaching the size I would need. After looking around, he said no. He didn't try to explain the bikes in any great detail or give me any information on what I should be considering as far as components, etc. At that point, I basically just gave up, thanked him, and left the shop. I want to emphasize that the employee I spoke with was very nice, he just didn't seem to know much and nobody else working there really seemed to care very much about selling me a bike. After that, I drove a few miles to Performance and had a completely different experience. A very knowledgeable salesperson showed me the bikes they had then had me sit with him while he reviewed the options for ordering bikes online. He helped me pick a $1700 Fuji Roubaix and he clearly explained all the different components. Then he told me I could buy the bike and they would have it in the shop all ready to go in a week. If I didn't like the bike I could just cancel it, no problem at all. So, I gave my money to Performance and I'm waiting to receive my new bike. Love this full service bike shop! I bought a hybrid bike here 8 years ago and can still get a bike tune up for free...for life! It's a great service to offer customers when you buy a quality bike from Summit. I bought a $4000 bike on July (Trek Emonda SL6 Pro Disc) at Burlingame store and after only one an a half month the front disc brake is broken. I took the bike to the shop and after 4 days they call me telling that need "2 weeks" to fix the brake. I tell them that this is not normal with a new high-end bike and I need a solution, like a spare bike. They tell me that will look for it and after telling them that I I don't see this to be normal, the guy (I don't remember the name) hung up the phone twice. This is unacceptable and for sure I wouldn't recommend this shop neither for byuing a bike nor the service. read more

As long as your spending money, they're good people. When I, my two sons, and a good friend were buying bikes they were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful...just as many of the other reviews state. But buyer beware... while speaking with one of their service managers in-store regarding a defect with my Trek road bike, he said "You're wasting my time...I'm not making any money." I suggested that, as a reseller, they have a responsibility to represent their customers back to the manufacturer. His response, "Nowhere in my dealer agreement does it say I'm responsible for representing my customers." Hmm...I will not support a business that views their customers as existing, first and foremost, to serve their profit needs. Hopefully you won't have any serious problems with your bike. Worst customer service ever. I ordered a bike online. I called customer service after a week of no updates, they assured me the bike was real and was on its way from the warehouse to the store. Another week passed without updates. I called again and now suddenly the bike was back-ordered. This was one of the worst experiences not only were the employees completely rude and authoritative they are discriminatory as well I am completely astonished on the treatment I received trying to buy a simple replacement part for a bike not only was he confrontational like I said he was discriminatory and it might even constitute looking into a lawsuit that's how bad it was I will never shop nor purchase or use their services again and will make it a point to tell everybody that I know in the cycling world what a piece of crap establishment this is and should not be allowed to do business in this manner! read more

Summit Bicycle has been my go to bicycle shop for the last 7 years. I've bought three bikes, one for each of my son's. The quality of service when they were selling you a bike was decent, but nothing to rave about. Service was super expensive and any type of twist, turn or adjustment would result into a ridiculous fee. I endured it because it's the price of labor. When the pandemic first hit, Summit's service went downhill which was understandable. Staff were limited and responding to county pandemic rules was an adjustment. I did call and leave serval messages to have my bike serviced, but to my disappointment, no response. All the emails I sent pleading for an appointment, crickets. However, I still physically went to Summit and stood in line even though the wait was long and inefficient. I felt that supporting my local business was important. One day, I decided to get my son's bike serviced and at the same time talk to a sales person about a road bike for myself. I stood in the "Service Line" with my 5 year old waiting patiently for a bike mechanic to assist us. We waited over 40 minutes and no response. We did see the "Sales Line" customers rapidly going in and out. I asked one of the sales person my situation and his response was we are understaffed. I made a point that the shop has been understaffed for 8 months. We ended up leaving without our bike serviced and it was clear it was not worth supporting a local business that doesn't support their customers. My son was a trooper throughout the whole ordeal and it was time for an ice cream cone. I went back home and called Summit but this time selecting the Sales option. Lo and behold, a Summit Sales Rep answered immediately. I asked that they patch me into the mechanic to schedule an appointment and their recommendation was to select the service line or email. I knew where this was going and hung up with a thank you. Bottom line, Summit Bicycle has efficiently streamlined the process of selling you a bike. Service and Support is an afterthought. read more

Got here because my tire blew on California Drive. Staff was super helpful and quickly replaced the tire tube in around 15 minutes while I was browsing the store. They also greased the chain for free which was weathered a lot due to the wet winter and spring months we had this year, something I wanted to do at home but always postponed. What can I say other than excellent service and I will come back again for certain. About reading a few comments here: I believe in bike stores service is hugely dependent on how competent the staff is. So it is pretty much hit or miss as it is reflected in the Yelp ratings. read more

A few months back I took my road bike in, it was mainly to have the handle bar tape replaced, but I also needed some new tires and the staff insisted they help me with that in addition to the tape. Tires aren't cheap, I know that, it was the other service that they so nonchalantly offered to me without quotes that really shocked me.. Apparently changing tires, handle bar tape, and one shifter wire (which really didn't need replacing) was $240!!!! WoW.... Just because someone comes into your shop in Burlingame doesn't mean that they are loaded. The staff were very nice and accommodating, but also very unprofessional to not be open and honest about the prices of the services. They aren't posted anywhere either, so that consumers can make informed decisions on bike service. This is why car shops provide estimates and require authorization for their work. This bike shop should do the same for it's customers, I really feel like I got taken, and usually I am a fairly savvy consumer. I couldn't just tell them to undo their work because I thought the price was too high... felt so awkward and pressured. Never saw the exorbitant charges coming, and that means I'm never going back to Summit. read more

These guys are bad news. An employee faked a phone call to a competitor's store "confirming" that they did not have the mountain bike I was looking for when in fact they did at a much lower price. I found this out and returned the two moutain bikes I purchased. I asked to speak to the owner but he was unavailable, even though he was in the store at the time. I contacted the owner later by the phone after leaving more than one message asking him get back to me and got a big spoonful of indifference. As a small business owner myself, I really try not to say negative things about another small business and I have empathy for having to deal with a rogue employee, but the owner's indifference and inability to offer a simple sincere apology was really too much. So, if you like dealing with arrogant lying Serra high school boys that don't know much about cycling and you enjoy not having legitimate concerns addressed appropriately, Summit is your place. Otherwise, head down to better stores in Redwood City and Palo Alto or venture up to SFand go to City Cycle at Steiner and Union where you will be dealt with in an honest and courteous manner by a knowledgeable fellow cyclist. read more

Aweful. DO NOT buy your bike here. They sold me a Cervelo that had a missing spacer on the crank causing the derailer not to be able to work properly. I brought it to Summit several times and they couldn't figure out what was wrong and "fixed" it supposedly but the bike kept having the same problem. Then took it into a bike shop in SF where they found the missing spacer which was glaring obvious cause the whole crank could be moved side to side. They made a custom spacer for me. I will never take my bike back to Summit for maintenance. All the guys who work in the back look like they are 15 years-old, no wonder they had no clue what was wrong with my bike. Not to mention I was sold a defective bike that was ~$3000. I also ordered a different seat post when I purchased the bike which they charged me for, and I called the shop several months later to see if it came in which they replied that they never ordered it. Then several months later when I went to pick it up they said they had already given it away and couldn't order another because they no longer sold them. The guy who helped me was extremely rude and said I had come "too late" and over a year since I bought my bike even though I had a receipt indicating I had bought my bike 8 months ago and they had never ordered the post originally and I spent 3 grand on a bike you think you could change out a seat post that I had already paid for and was supposed to have been put on my bike originally. Horrible customer service and horrible mechanics. Will never go back. read more

It's one thing if I rode in on my Trek Madone 5.douche, but just because I ride in with another cycle brand equipped with Sora doesn't give the right for these elitest elders to think I don't have money to spend. The reason I'm coming in is to help support your pay check and maybe even buy something expensive. Just because I've had a bad experience with goods that cost less than $10 then saying I don't know how to install it, or to blame it all on "user error" first and not even giving an explanation on what could have caused it, is just plain rude. I will never come back here to buy anything again. I really expected a neighborhood bike shop experience. Not an elitest haven. Oh and btw, if you carried more brands and pulled the stick out of some of your employee's asses, I might actually rethink about coming back to spend my money. To think, I was actually going to upgrade to Red on my current bike AND order an R5 here. Phew, glad I purchased simple goods first. I couldn't imagine how my bikes would be treated after the "once it leaves the doors, it's out of our hands" mind-set. read more
