She was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to understand what I was looking for. I'm not a runner. I love to walk. Usually I would purchase shoes at a big box store or online. The salesperson really took time with me to find out what I needed, and help me try on shoes and try them out, to select the right pair. We all spend so much time on our feet (well, hopefully), it's worth the money to buy shoes that feel good for what we need them for. As I looked around the store, I could see they had running meet ups and just a good community feel. They will even recycle your old shoes. This is my new favorite local store! read more

It's a really special thing that this store exists -- if you haven't had 1:1 service with a running or shoe expert before, then you have to come. The depth of knowledge around feet, shoes, gait, preferences, etc goes way beyond what I've imagined anyone would have. And that they don't charge for their fitting service is amazing to me. LOVE -After buying two pairs of trail hikers elsewhere that didn't work well, I decided to splurge and go to the professionals. -Tried on four pairs plus insoles and special lacing before I found the magic combo. -Derek greeted me promptly, asked questions and listened to my concerns. -I made it through my planned backpacking trip with minimal foot problems. LIKE -I was able to order the color I wanted and have it shipped to the store or home. MEH -Later, I discovered a color I liked better on the brand's website. After two disappointing trips to another running shoe store, Yelp saved the day and directed me to A Runner's Mind. This little shop has a terrific selection of running shoes for the serious runner. Instead of putting you on a machine, they put shoes on your feet and tell you to go run outside. That's the way it should be. Brandon was incredibly helpful and exceedingly patient with my task of finding just the right two pairs of shoes to be my companions for the next three months of half marathons and pleasure running. Success!! After trying on many pairs of shoes (which is unusual for me), I found one pair of my usual Brooks Ghosts that fit the bill, but Brandon wanted me to try his favorite running shoe and WOW! It was the most comfortable running shoe I've ever worn. They fit my feet like a glove. I can't speak yet as to how they feel after six miles, but I'll know later today. Pricing is consistent with other shops, but quality running shoes are worth every penny. Think of them as new tires for your body. They'll protect your knees, ankles, hips, and back so that you can enjoy running for a lifetime. They have a running club that meets once a week for those who like to run with a group. There are collection bins by the front door for donations of used shoes and t-shirts. Those items that are still in good condition are given to those in need. Any shoes that can't be up-cycled are torn down and used for roadways. Love it! Derek took me outside to record my gait, then we reviewed the footage in detail on an iPad to assess which products would actually help. After test-driving three different pairs, I could really feel the difference and narrowed it down to a winner. Derek never felt like a "pushy salesman"--it genuinely felt like he had my best interests in mind. Regarding the complaints about finding shoes cheaper online: sure, that's true for almost anything these days. However, you're paying for the expert knowledge and the personalized fitting process that ensures you get exactly what you need. I have been needing to get a gait analysis for running/walking shoes since my current ones have been giving me some blisters and unwanted ankle pain. I walked in and was greeted by a team member and mentioned I wanted to do the gait analysis. These are free and they don't take appointments--you just walk in and request it! I was helped by team member Elizabeth, on a weekday around 3pm. There were a few other customers in store too. She had me remove my shoes, keep my socks on and walk in a straight line around the store. Then I had to stand on this device that takes a thermal looking heat sensitive foot print on the floor for a minute. This would show my arch shape, and mine is medium arch! After this, I did a normal shoe size fitting. I used to get size 7.5 shoes for running, but she mentioned I needed size 8. Then she brought over 3 different shoes from 3 brands. I tried out each of them and was torn between 2 choices. I was in a hurry though, and was also able to try my favorite pair with some recommended insoles. Because of my limited time, I asked Elizabeth to put my items on hold at the register to do some minor research before deciding on my final purchase. This took less than 30 minutes, but your time will vary spending on how decisive/indecisive you are when trying on multiple pairs of shoes around the store! The actual gait analysis itself took about 5-10 minutes max. I found it really helpful and easy to get my gait analysis done with the team members. Wonderful training store that I've been back to a few times now. The employees are so welcoming and helpful. they're also very patient. If you come in telling them that you're looking for running shoes, they ask you about your running style, what you're training for, how many miles you run a week, and what kind of ground you run. They put you in a pair of neutral shoes and ask you to run outside while they film you, using a gait analysis app on their iPad. After they examine where your weaknesses are, they take out a few pairs of shoes for you to run in, and continue to suggest shoes based on your preferences. (Lifted heel, more cushion, etc.) Afterwards, they ask you to stand on a heat pad to determine your arch, and replace the insoles of the shoes with arch support so you can try and see the difference. Throughout the whole process, the staff are super kind and helpful, never pressuring you to buy anything. WOW! Excellent customer service! I was lucky enough to have Nick help me with my shoe questions and concerns. He was able to answer all of my questions. I was beyond impressed with his knowledge and interest in making sure that I get the pair of shoes that were going to be the best fit for me and the speedwork I wanted the new shoes for. I tried on numerous pairs of shoes and was able to go outside and do some sprints in each pair. I narrowed it down to two pairs, but needed to meet someone for lunch so they held them for me until I could return a little bit later. By the time I returned Nick was back in the SF shop, but he let Clark know that I would be back and shared with him what I was looking for. I tried on the shoes again, ran a bit more, and made my decision. Bonus points, they had a vegan Maurten gel that I had been wanting to try. I was looking for new training and potentially race shoes, since I've always ran previous halves with regular athletic shoes that left my ankles and feet feeling stiff. Adrian measured me for my shoe size and did a gait analysis for me--turns out I've been using shoes that were too small this whole time! I had also suspected some protonation or bunion problems but they turned out to be not as bad as I thought, so Adrian told me I won't actually need as much stability in my shoes. He quickly picked out several pairs of shoes ranging from different brands (Hoka, Saucony and ASICS) for me to try based on the qualities I liked about the first pair I tested (New Balance), and I was happy to have picked out 2 for purchase: ASICS Novablast 3 for speed work and ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25 for recovery runs. Then he identified the level of support I needed in my insoles. I also got some targeted compression socks and energy gels based on his recommendation. I spent about an hour here for this visit on a Saturday afternoon, which was a bit busy but Adrian was very patient and attentive still. I think the prices are fair and compares to what you'd find online, but overall it's way better to have a physical store to try on the shoes to really know your preference. We came here on a weekend day and they were pretty packed. I waited behind a couple of people but otherwise was seen by one of the attendants pretty quickly. The attendant - unfortunately I forgot his name but he was great and had a sweater of a college on - was super helpful. He first had me walk in the store with my shoes off while he observed. Then he told me what type of shoes he thought I should wear (similar style to the running shoes I brought to the store with me). I tried on 4 different pairs of that style while he helped me find the right fit of each shoe. He then asked me if I had any pains while running and then a heat pad of my arches. He recommended I get some extra soles to provide more arch support. I bought a pair of shoes and some arch support and spent just under $200. It was the most I've spent for tennis shoes at one time, but now I'm aware of my form and where I have overprognation soon happy either my visit. This time one of the shoes they had me try was the Cloud Runner from On, a Swiss company. It was the last pair I tried on. As soon as I stood up, I could feel these were a great fit for me. After a short walk/run outside, & checking these were not twice the prices I decided to buy these. The shoes are lightweight with solid support & a clean design. They were, thankfully, only $10 more than the Asics I was considering. The customer service at this store is always spot on. The guy that helped me out provided a lot of good information. They carry Hoka and On and Nike and I think New Balance. Some of the teenage "sales" associates are not that knowledgeable and thus not that helpful. have been to this location many times in the past few years and have always had a good experience. their staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about shoes. i'm sure they know a ton about other stuff too but i'm generally shopping for shoes. store carries all of the latest running shoes, technical clothing, accessories, hydration and nutrition. even during the height of the pandemic, i was able to shop here safely. i still remember pointing to what i wanted and waiting outside while they rung up my order and handed me my purchase. the actual store is a little on the small side so it feels a bit cramped esp compared to their other stores which are a bit more spacious. parking can be a bit challenging. while there are metered spots right outside the store they are usually full so i often have to park a couple blocks away. tip: park a few extra blocks away and parking is free (usually 2 hr parking) read more

If you buy shoes, there is a 30-day return guarantee, so if they don't work out you can always bring them back (at least that's the case with my Brooke Adrenaline's). Props to the folks at A Runner's Mind for helping me discover an incredible replacement for my longtime ride-or-die running shoe. Nike decided to stop making the Zoom Structure, which is the only model I've ever run distance in (and have bought 4 iterations of). I needed real advice on what to choose as the successor. A Runner's Mind is a cute, goofy local store in downtown Burlingame, and I was really pleased with the attention and service from the folks in the store. The young man who worked there helped check my foot positioning for whether I really needed stability shoes, arch position, etc, and was able to suggest a selection of closely related replacements. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 was his recommendation for being closest to what I had and while I was skeptical, having never ran in this brand before, my expectations are more than exceeded and I have to say even my knee pain is gone with this model. They've also worked with my husband for helping him find a pair of shoes (he has chronic back injuries so he is VERY particular) and being patient through his decision making. Other pros: Incredible return policies - you really don't know until you've stress tested the shoe, especially trying new models. Didn't end up needing to use it but this put me at ease to try a pricier model and take a chance with something new. Cons: Tough parking in the area during busy business hours, as it's downtown. Not a lot of space to try out running / walking in the shoes but that's largely solved by their liberal return policies. read more

This was our first time at the shop and we loved it! Our daughter just joined her school's track team for the first time so we were clueless on what training shoes to get. Josh was amazing! He had her try on several styles of shoes and even had her run down the street to make sure the shoes felt right. Josh took the time to ask her questions and make sure she felt comfortable and that the shoes fit correctly. There was no pressure to buy anything. His concern was that the shoe she chose worked best for her. He swapped in some aftermarket insoles but my daughter liked the stock insoles a d Josh simply pulled them out and, again, didn't try to push anything on us. And frankly, after we were done, we didn't pay anymore for these than we would have at a big box store, but Josh spent over a half hour with us. In fact, we even took advantage of the special Spike Night event and got 15% off. So we also got race specific socks for her as well. So for about the same price we'd have spent at a big box store we got individual attention and fitting from a knowledgeable salesperson that runs and knows his stuff. I purchased my second pair of running from ARM Burlingame today. I returned because of their knowledgeable staff, excellent customer service, and varied selection. Last time I bought a New Balance style, but after side-by-side comparisons I went with a pair of ASICS this time. Their staff allow you to walk around or jog in the empty parking lot next door to get a feel for each shoe. They even suggested I try on the shoe finalists with my special insoles to get a better idea of the feel. I'll be back next year for another pair! read more
