On Saturday I stopped in with my boyfriend to try on some running shoes, since they had some great sales going on. I purchased the RBX Luna Woman's Running Shoe in Black in my size, they were very comfortable and airy, but for some reason they became painfully tighter around my toes as the day went on. So I had to purchase some slides at another store since I dirtied the shoes walking through SF and didn't keep the box they came in, so I didn't feel it was right to return them. For just $17.96, at least not much mula was wasted and I cannot blame the store, just the manufacturers of the shoe. So I am still leaving 5 stars for great customer service and good price points. Bob and his great customer service is why I'm giving this location two stars rather than 1. Bob was very knowledgeable and very helpful. First walking into the store, one of the employees gave me a very negative vibe. I felt very uncomfortable to be in the store with him. My girlfriend was looking at the women's boots and showed me a pair that were clearly hiked in and then returned, and hardly cleaned (pictured). I called in an order for a camelbak women's backpack and the woman I spoke with was lovely. They had to search a while to find the exact item I wanted but it was worth it. Went to the store to special order an item. Was told only a manager can do it and to come back another day. Two days later I called to double check a manger was there and was told he was and to come in. When I came in i spoke to the manager and I was told I need to make an appointment to make my order. I gave the manager my number and was told he would call me in a couple of days to schedule an appointment . I'm still waiting for that phone call and it's been over a month. Today I walked into big five to purchase ammunition to go to the range right as I walked in I was greeted by Bob which is fantastic I half Bob can you call someone for the ammunition department he called over Luci Lucy did not greet us or make me feel welcomed then I asked her for the ammunition on which multiple ones I wanted and she just grab the boxes I didn't say anything but she was giving us attitude after we got all the ammunition after a short period of time she took us up to the register which then continued to give me attitude and I'm happy smile then she asked for my IDAnd kept it and look at it for about five minutes then I asked if there something wrong with my ID she says why are you asking so many questions you shouldn't say anything in the first place and I was like why just looks like you're find my ID so I wanted to know what's up after she was giving me trouble I asked her can I speak with the manager please and she said I am the manager so we continued on with the transactions and I wanted to use my gift card but I have it already paid so I asked her if she can do a simple exchange for me to use my debit card to be able to use my store credit and she said oh I don't know how to do that she had to call and ask for help how to do it which at that point I was confused because I thought she was a manager over All my experience was terrible. read more

It's interesting how accurate Yelpers are. I was at this place, wondered "how many stars did my Yelpers give them?" Let it go and sat down for the review. I'd say 2 stars is dead on!! The selection is vast. Lots to choose from. The problem being, the sales peeps are focusing 87% of their energy on the cell phones, 11% on each other and well, the math tells me that's about 2% of their energy on you and me. That's bad. I mean, really really bad. The average employee puts forth AT LEAST 8% of their energy on working. That would be four times the energy and effort given by these peeps. BUT, what they do give 100% effort toward is trying to sell you on a credit card. Allow me to ponder this momentarily. Ok, you want to walk around the store and avoid me while you Facebook and sent tweets to people who are not actually following you. When I was struggling to find X Y and/or Z you were flirting with the other sales gal. Now, I settle on a pair of shoes and gym shorts, walk up to the register already resigned to the fact that customer service won't be finding me today and when I get to the register you greet with a cheerful smile and the first thing you say is "Would you like to sign up for our promotional payment card and save 5% today?" I went there with husband to buy cleats. The salesperson was so rude, it was unbelievable. We had singled out a pair of shoes, after which hubby asked the guy to get another style of shoes to try. It was the 2nd pair of shoes which we would have tried. He said so rudely to us that "what will you do with the 1 pair that I showed?" Ugh. That's the only word to describe my experience at this particular Big 5. I've never had a problem with the folks working here until Monday night. So I decided earlier that day I wanted to buy an airsoft gun. OK, so I asked my mom if Dick's in Serramonte or Big 5 would be easier for her to walk around in (she has fibromyalgia and was having a bad flare up that day). She answered Big 5. No problem. We parked and it was about an hour before closing time. I did what I needed to do and she went to go look at hiking boots. I went to the guns and ammo area where the airsoft guns are at too (specifically the AEGs). I spent a few minutes looking for the one I wanted. Nothing. I go up to the front to ask for assistance from someone. I asked the gentleman in front lf my at the time and the lady working at the register with him said 'OK I'll get someone.' I stood there for about ten minutes without any further help and I got the attention of the lady (again after being ignored for 10 minutes) and she finally called someone to assist me. I didn't get the guy's name but overall he seemed to be the most helpful. The man up front I think was a trainee, so I can't fault him for not helping me. They didn't have the airsoft gun I wanted so I said thanks to the guy who helped. My mom found hiking boots and I grabbed an airsoft gun feom the shelf. We get to the checkstand and the same lady who "helped me" was a berating the employee who thought he was able to go on his break. She chewed him out for about 10 minutes and after her ranting she said "I'll help you on the other side." So we get to her, and I immediately felt a horrible vibe, as this lady was mad dogging my mom and I the whole time we were at checkout. I swiped my card on the scanner and apparently I entered the wrong PIN. So I wanted to $x in cash and put the rest on my debit card. She was controlling the PIN Pad as if I have no idea what I'm doing and bitched at me when I wanted to do cash first. I pretty much didn't see but felt as if she was annoyed by us and wanted my mom and I out of there. So I pulled out my cash, swiped my debit card on the scanner (again) and we left. No goodbye, thank you, kiss my ass, but a dirty look. Oh and I didn't get a receipt. In conclusion, that was the last time I'm planning on going to the San Bruno Big 5. Next time I'm on the hunt for airsoft, I'll go to the Daly City location or Dick's instead. Or make a trip out to Foster City for Sports Authority. Any other place would suffice rather than wasting my breath and patience at the SB Big 5. Never again will I come back here! read more

Yeah, it's bullshit. If you have to see anything in a locked case or behind the counter you're fucked. I would guess it took about 25 minutes to get somebody's attention for a fishing reel. And of course the one I wanted to buy they no longer had in stock. I settled for a %10 discount on a floor model reel that in all likelihood has been thrown across the store a dozen times by one of the six or so unattended children that seem to occupy these types of stores at any given time. The gear is generally shotty, abused by customers, and sweatshop made. Oh and 10% more than it should be until it goes on 'sale'. Do yourself and this country a favor, go to a local 'Mom and Pop' store for your big purchases. Two stars because the register girl greeted me when I walked in. read more

Not sure why so many negatives here. But Luci has an awesome staff that is friendly informative and ready to help. Seems like every corner I turn a staff member was ready to make my shopping experience better,faster and easier. Please be patient and give these guys a chance to help you find what you are looking for. Their inventory can be a little tricky as alot of items are bunched together. I am sure if they sell it and have it in stock, Luci will go above and beyond to help find it. As she did for me. Come to think of it I haven't noticed Luci or these other helpful guys previously. We had a horrible store clerk with the biggest attitude, similar to dealing with someone at the DMV. We purchased two fishing licenses which required us to show our IDs. The store clerk threw our IDs back to us like it was rubbish. She was very rude, and shouldn't be in customer service. She belongs in the back stocking equipment or even better taking out the trash, like she treated us as such. I will never purchase anything here at San Bruno Big 5 again, as long as she is present. This is just another testament of why Amazon is taking establishments like this out, because who wants to deal with this BS? I spent about 10 minutes wondering about the folding chairs on display. Should I just grab them, or get an employee. I decided to find an employee. When you need them, they aren't up front or walking the floor. When I found one, he had his badge on, looked like he was working, and then said he was off the clock. Oh lord where do I begin. First of all if you want DECENT customer service DO NOT COME HERE. My partner and I arrived at this location looking for a co2 tank for a paintball gun. We were assisted by CHESTER this man has horrible customer service. I'm surprised he's a manager. We went inside the store and asked for some assistance with the co2 tank. He was no help. We had to use google in order to find information out ourselves. Since we were looking at the CO2 takes which are directly above the weapon display case such as knives. He stated we were not allowed to purchase any weapons since we smelled like marijuana. Totally reasonable to say if we were asking to purchase those items. I see no reason for him to mention medical marijuana use. We were NOT trying to purchase a weapon we specifically went in there to purchase a CO2 tank and ONLY that. WOW. Completely dissapointed! There is one women's rack when you walk in. Took me a while to find out that the rest of the Women's work out clothes are in the far back left corner in the store. Are we lepers? I was there for over twenty minutes and no one asked if I needed help. It should have been obvious that I needed some.
